Chapter 6

Shi Yu: …

W-What just happened?

Wasn’t it trying to kill him?

How did it turn into honey chicken rice?

Shi Yu was totally confused. But when people get extremely confused, they sometimes calm down. After waiting for a minute and seeing that the creepy package didn’t move again, Shi Yu took a deep breath and carefully tried moving his feet.

He could move again!

He slowly took a step back—then quickly rushed to the door.

Even though he was free now, his legs were still weak. All his movements were clumsy—he couldn’t defend himself or fight back. But strangely, the bloody and terrifying package just stayed there like it was… dead.

Shi Yu glanced once more at the steaming box of food in the room, then gritted his teeth and opened the door.

“Something happened!” he called out.

Shen Yan had been leaning against the wall with his eyes closed, sensing his surroundings. He had just felt something was wrong when he heard the sound of the door unlocking.

The young man in the hoodie looked panicked, gripping the door handle tightly. His messy black hair under the mask looked damp, and even his eyes were red.

This was his first time dealing with a supernatural event. Shi Yu’s heart was still pounding when he saw the group of main characters.

Shen Yan saw how shaken he looked and instinctively reached out to steady him. Then, his eyes looked past Shi Yu into the room.

His pupils shrank in shock—he saw a familiar square package.

He didn’t even need to think—he knew what it was: the “Undeliverable Package”, a B-level supernatural object that had already killed several residents.

But how did it get up here?

Not to mention the team’s instruments, both Shen Yan and Han Chuyi had merged with supernatural abilities. Yet none of them had noticed anything wrong, and somehow the “undeliverable” package had silently made it into the room.

And even more surprising—Shi Yu was still alive. Shen Yan frowned slightly in confusion.

Shi Yu still didn’t know what had really happened. At that moment, Han Chuyi stepped into the room first.

The mutated wolf bones he had fused with twitched slightly. Shi Yu watched with wide eyes as the annoying guy’s hand turned into a white-boned wolf claw, which then landed on the package on the floor.

Even with another supernatural presence so close, the “Undeliverable Package” still didn’t move.

Han Chuyi clicked his tongue in annoyance. He picked up the box, and after sensing that the strange energy inside was gone, his expression turned strange.

“It’s dead.”

Dead?

Wang Shan and Zhao Wen, who had followed behind, couldn’t believe it.

“Han, you’re joking, right?”

“How could it be dead?”

This was the same deadly package that just yesterday had been escaping and killing people. How could it just die like that? This wasn’t a joke.

Wang Shan carefully suggested, “Han, maybe you should check again?”

Check? Han Chuyi, now annoyed, smashed the box again.

“See for yourself.”

“It’s completely dead. Looks like it ran out of energy and died.”

Ran out of energy?

What did it do to drain all its energy?

Everyone looked at each other in confusion. After confirming that Shi Yu was okay, Shen Yan entered the room and checked things out. He agreed with Han Chuyi’s conclusion and nodded.

“It really did run out of energy.”

It even caused a self-destruction when that happened.

As for the reason… everyone’s eyes fell on the box of food lying on the floor.

Could it be related?

The “Undeliverable Package” might look like a real delivery, but it never actually delivers anything. The box is usually empty—it’s just a trick to fool people.

But now, for the first time ever, they found something inside it—

A boxed meal?

Was there something special about this meal? Was it so important that the package used up all its energy to keep it?

Shen Yan put on gloves and immediately picked up the food box. But no matter how he examined it, his senses told him—it was just a normal boxed meal. Not even a trace of blood.

The only strange thing was… where did it come from?

They all exchanged looks. This case was getting weirder by the second.

Shi Yu watched from outside. After a while, he saw the people from the Supernatural Ability Association finish cleaning up and come over.

Shen Yan hadn’t expected things to turn out like this either. He said,

“I’m sorry. I didn’t make it into the room in time. That was my mistake.”

“I’ll take responsibility for that.”

“Mr. Shi, are you feeling anything unusual now?” Even though Shi Yu looked fine, he had just been alone with the deadly package. Shen Yan took the matter seriously—no one knew exactly what had happened in those few minutes.

Shi Yu met Shen Yan’s eyes, relaxed a little, and shook his head slightly.

“I’m fine. Just… got really scared.”

Honestly, he wasn’t that timid, but facing something that could kill people in seconds was terrifying. He was proud of himself for not collapsing and opening the door when he did.

Watching as the team finished checking the box, Shi Yu finally asked:

“Is that weird box safe now?”

He thought he heard Han Chuyi say it was dead earlier.

Shen Yan paused slightly, then nodded.

“Yes, it’s definitely dead.”

He looked at Shi Yu. “Mr. Shi, can you tell us exactly what happened in the room before you opened the door?”

The disappearance of the supernatural package was just too strange. Shi Yu was the only one who had been alone with it, so Shen Yan could only hope he remembered what happened in detail.

When Han Chuyi heard Shen Yan’s question, he let out a small snort:
“Totally unnecessary.”

“Something strange must’ve changed inside the anomaly again that we don’t know about.”

Ever since these strange beings appeared, they’ve never stayed the same. They evolve or die based on the environment. Han Chuyi didn’t believe for a second that the death of a B-level anomaly had anything to do with a normal person. He just thought Shen Yan’s question was a complete waste of time.

Shi Yu: …

Even though Han Chuyi was really annoying, what he said was actually right—Shi Yu really didn’t know anything.

Shi Yu thought back and said,
“After I got back, I felt hungry, so I ate some bread. Then I just stayed in my room. After a while, that delivery suddenly showed up on the 19th floor.”

“I wanted to call you guys, but I couldn’t move at all, and I couldn’t speak either for some weird reason.”

“Then things happened just like what you saw, Doctor Shen.”

When Shi Yu said that, he paused very slightly. When he mentioned “being hungry,” he suddenly remembered the lunchbox.

Right before he opened his eyes, he had been thinking about wanting to eat a chicken leg. And that lunchbox… had honey chicken leg rice. Shi Yu turned his head and smelled the scent, feeling a little unsure.

But… it shouldn’t be related to him, right?

There’s no way an anomaly would be that kind—knowing he was hungry, specially delivering food to him, even breaking through defenses and using up all its energy just to do that?

That’s impossible.
Just thinking about it sounded ridiculous.

He glanced at Shen Yan a little nervously. As expected, Shen Yan didn’t link the lunchbox to him. He just nodded after hearing his words.

What Shi Yu said matched what they had seen after entering the room. The symptoms of not being able to move or speak also matched the abilities of the “Undiscardable Delivery” anomaly.

It looked like the problem came from the anomaly itself. Maybe, just like Han Chuyi guessed, something had changed inside it again.

But this was still just a guess. Shen Yan pressed his nose bridge slightly and looked at the now calmer Shi Yu after finishing his notes. Seeing that Shi Yu was holding his teacup tightly without drinking, he spoke:

“Mr. Shi, the danger has paused for now, but the incident isn’t over. Earlier, we held back from saying too much, but you’ve seen it now yourself—that wasn’t a normal criminal. It was something beyond regular human understanding.”

After all, a regular delivery package wouldn’t just appear on the 19th floor out of nowhere, let alone break in through the window.

Shen Yan hadn’t planned to be this honest. But their original plan—resolving the danger before Shi Yu saw the anomaly—had failed. Now that Shi Yu had seen the “Undiscardable Delivery,” there was no point hiding anything.

He put away his pen:
“I’d like to ask you to come with us for a while, Mr. Shi. Since you were alone with that thing for quite a while, we can’t be sure whether it left anything harmful inside you.”

“At our Ability Users’ Association, we have equipment that can check your condition, just in case.”

Huh? A check-up?

Shi Yu was stunned. He didn’t expect Shen Yan to say that so directly. Isn’t the Ability Users’ Association usually very secretive? In the book, they weren’t even an official organization. Their members were a mix of mystic sects and local ability users, and they rarely revealed themselves to normal people.

He looked up instinctively. But none of the other team members seemed to disagree with what Shen Yan said.

Only Han Chuyi raised an eyebrow while sizing him up. After glancing at the corner of Shi Yu’s eye, he didn’t say anything.

Shi Yu didn’t know what Han Chuyi was looking at. But what Shen Yan said did make sense. He had come face-to-face with that strange thing. Who knew if he had been affected somehow? It’s better to get checked out.

He made up his mind and nodded:
“Then thank you, Doctor Shen.”

Shen Yan relaxed a little and uploaded the notes, motioning for the others to pack up.

“Let’s go.”
Hearing that, Shi Yu automatically followed Doctor Shen in front. Among all these people, Shen Yan was the calmest and didn’t seem pushy, which made him easier to be around.

Shi Yu stood farther away from Han Chuyi and absentmindedly watched the numbers in the elevator go up. Now that he was no longer considered someone “targeted by the anomaly,” he thought that the man who only cared about killing anomalies (Han Chuyi) would finally ignore him.

But just then, standing next to him in the elevator, Han Chuyi suddenly asked:
“Why are your eyes red?”

“What?”

Shi Yu blinked, surprised.

Han Chuyi looked at the slightly red corners of Shi Yu’s eyes. He frowned—or maybe he just felt awkward—and looked down weirdly.

“Hey, stop pretending. You cried just now, didn’t you?”
