Chapter 10: This Young Lady is Quite Good!
By the time Tang Chuyao and Huang Xiaoyu returned to the Falling Cherry Courtyard, it was already around the hour of Si (approximately 10 AM).
Dujian came in with a worried expression to help Tang Chuyao get ready. Tang Chuyao naturally understood Dujian’s concerns; she was worried about being scolded by the old madam.
Patting Dujian’s hand, Tang Chuyao shook her head, signaling her not to worry.
Only then did Dujian reveal a smile. She noticed that the young lady had changed; she was no longer as submissive as before, prioritizing the Wenyong Bo estate over everything.
It was not easy for women. If one only tried to please others, it would only make things harder for oneself!
The young lady being like this was quite good!
She should have considered herself long ago!
With a powerful maternal family like the national general and a beloved concubine aunt in the palace, how could life not go smoothly?
“Miss, are we still going to Rongjintang?” Dujian was a bit uncertain.
“Of course we are going!”
“Even if we don’t go, that old woman will send someone to summon us!”
Tang Chuyao didn’t care much and told Dujian to have breakfast first; she and her senior sister were starving!
Dujian immediately ran to the kitchen…
Before long, Dujian returned with an angry expression.
“Miss, it’s my fault!”
Dujian explained the situation: when she went to the kitchen, the cook was very dismissive, saying breakfast time had already passed, and there was no breakfast left.
Dujian saw that there was still a chicken stewing in the pot, steam rising from the steamer, and the iron pot was still bubbling. Unwilling to accept this, she wanted to take some of the food.
The cook immediately put on a stern face and said that all of this was reserved for the young lady! If the young lady wanted to eat, she should come earlier tomorrow!
Previously, Tang Chuyao always got up early to serve the old woman at Rongjintang, so she had never experienced such a situation!
After falling into the water and being unconscious, not only did her scummy father and grandmother not visit her, but when the old woman heard she had awakened, she immediately ordered her to return and serve!
Tang Chuyao curled her lips; then none of them should expect to eat!
She then turned to Huang Xiaoyu and whispered something in her ear. Huang Xiaoyu’s eyes immediately lit up, giving Tang Chuyao a thumbs-up and smiling as she flew off…
At that moment, Granny Zhao arrived, frowning and looking displeased at Tang Chuyao, “Miss, you have quite the attitude!”
“Are you no longer listening to the old madam’s words?”
Granny Zhao was the old madam’s maid of honor and had always been loyal to her.
Seeing Granny Zhao, Tang Chuyao immediately leaned against Dujian, covering her mouth with a handkerchief, “Cough, cough, cough.”
“Please ask Granny Zhao to tell my grandmother, cough cough…
I’ll tidy up and come over soon, cough cough cough…”
Granny Zhao took a few steps back in disdain, “This old servant will take my leave now!”
Before long, Huang Xiaoyu returned, carrying a food box.
The four of them gathered around happily to eat. Dujian and her mother, Yinghe, initially didn’t want to sit at the table to eat with the young lady, but the young lady insisted they join her; otherwise, she wouldn’t eat, so they sat down to accompany the young lady and her senior sister for the meal.
“Junior sister, this is the best part of the capital!”
“The food at Weijixuan is indeed delicious!”
Huang Xiaoyu was eating with grease dripping from her mouth. Tang Chuyao, who had initially lacked appetite, observed her senior sister enjoying the food. Perhaps it was due to the physical exertion from practicing in the morning, but the food tasted better than at lunch! She ended up eating more than she did at noon.
After they were full and satisfied, Tang Chuyao leisurely took Dujian to Rongjintang.
In Rongjintang, the old madam’s face turned green; no one in the estate dared to defy her intentions!
Sitting at the lower end, Concubine Mei looked at Tang Chuyao with a worried expression.
Tang Chuying, on the other hand, wore a look of glee, though she thought she was hiding it well, but Tang Chuyao still caught a glimpse of her fleeting expression.
Tang Chuyao bowed gracefully to the old madam, then covered her face with a handkerchief, putting on a look of grievance as she looked at the old madam.
“Grandmother, if the estate does not welcome Yaoyao, then Yaoyao will leave right now!”
After saying this, she covered her eyes with the handkerchief; since she was wearing a veil, others couldn’t see her expression clearly.
However, the onion juice on the handkerchief was too spicy, making her eyes water.
Dujian was truly too honest!
Old Madam Mei frowned, impatiently asking, “What do you mean by this?”
Dujian took over the conversation, saying, “Reporting to the old madam, the young lady just woke up yesterday after falling into the water and is very weak, but she feels that this incident is both a calamity and a blessing!”
The old madam looked puzzled and asked, “What do you mean by that?”
Dujian didn’t explain further but brought up another matter, “The young lady insisted that I take her to the temple to pray for the old madam as soon as she woke up yesterday morning. She said she had a dream before falling into the water, where the old madam was afflicted with a serious illness. In her dream, the young lady prayed, asking that these calamities fall upon herself and not the old madam!”
“She has blocked this disaster and prayed to the Bodhisattva to bless the old madam with a long life, free from illness and disaster!”
After saying this, Dujian pulled out a sachet from her sleeve and handed it to Granny Zhao. Granny Zhao took the sachet and saw that it was embroidered with the character “Yuan.”
The old madam looked at the sachet, realizing it was indeed one obtained from Baima Temple!
It was said that the sachets from Baima Temple were hard to come by, requiring not only sincerity but also a connection to the Buddha!
At that moment, the old madam’s gaze toward Tang Chuyao softened considerably, and she revealed a sincere smile, “You are thoughtful!”
She then asked, “So why were you crying just now?”
Dujian replied, “Reporting to the old madam, the young lady doesn’t want to speak of it, so I will explain!”
“Last night, the young lady stayed up late writing scriptures, and her body was already weak. This morning, she caught a cold and couldn’t get up.”
“As soon as the young lady got up, she immediately wanted to rush over to Rongjintang to serve the old madam. I was afraid she wouldn’t be able to hold on, so I went to the kitchen to get some food.”
“I also knew it was past breakfast time, but the kitchen pot was still stewing a chicken, and there was food in the steamer and the iron pot. Mrs. Li not only refused to give us food but also said…”
The old madam’s expression darkened at this point. She knew Mrs. Li in the kitchen was one of Concubine Mei’s people.
Over the years, she had profited quite a bit from her purchases in the estate, but due to Concubine Mei’s influence, she had turned a blind eye!
“What did she say? You can just say it!”
Dujian continued, “Mrs. Li said that the estate only recognizes the second young lady, and all of this is only for the second young lady. What kind of young lady are we?”
Once Dujian finished speaking, the entire Rongjintang fell silent, and the sound of a pin dropping could be heard.
Until Tang Chuying, with an angry expression, pointed at Dujian and said, “You’re talking nonsense!”
“How could Mrs. Li possibly say such things?”
Dujian showed no fear and replied, “Second young lady, I am not lying!”
Tang Chuyao was not surprised by Tang Chuying’s reaction; in her previous life, this mother-daughter pair often spoke like this behind her back, causing the entire estate’s servants to not regard her, the legitimate young lady, at all!
So Dujian was not lying, which made Tang Chuyao furious; she was enraged out of embarrassment!
“Smack!”
Concubine Mei slammed the teacup heavily on the table.
Seeing the coldness in Concubine Mei and Tang Chuyao’s eyes increased a bit.
