Yu Xiyue leaned in close to Xu En’tang’s ear and whispered, “I don’t think Lu Jin will end up dating Meng Tian after all.”
Xu En’tang nodded in agreement but remained silent.
She knew Lu Jin would be with Meng Tian.
Meng Tian was Lu Jin’s girlfriend after Zhao Man Shi.
When Lu Jin had brought up marriage, he mentioned, “Back in high school, you caught me kissing,” referring to that moment with Meng Tian.
She had stumbled upon them unintentionally and couldn’t help but stop to watch.
She saw Meng Tian wrap herself around him like a vine, very proactive, while Lu Jin accepted her advances with an open demeanor, showing no signs of being captivated, appearing instead carefree and nonchalant.
After a few kisses, as if he had gotten interested, he finally wrapped an arm around Meng Tian’s waist.
That was the first time she had seen anyone kiss up close, and her face flushed with excitement.
However, they broke up after just over a month.
When she heard the news of their breakup, she felt both happy and worried about Lu Jin’s mood. She went to check on him but found him acting as if nothing had happened, completely unfazed.
He had been very doting and indulgent toward Meng Tian when they were together.
That was when she realized he was a cold-hearted playboy, and it was hard for anyone to truly reach his heart.
Yu Xiyue handed her phone over. “Look, it’s Ji Li Ge and the others.”
Xu En’tang snapped out of her thoughts.
Yu Xiyue was showing her a video.
In the bright basketball court, two groups of people were wearing different colored jerseys.
Jiang Ran stole the ball and made a long pass to Tan Jili.
Tan Jili raised his hand and took a clean three-point shot, “swish,” the ball went through the hoop, landing perfectly, leaving only the net gently swaying.
In the video, Yu Chen’s voice exclaimed, “What a beautiful shot!”
After making the shot, Tan Jili high-fived Jiang Ran while returning to defense, then seemingly noticed the camera, casually glancing over.
He wore a white No. 11 jersey, with a black sweatband on his forehead, and his black hair fell into his eyes.
He nonchalantly lifted his chin toward the camera before looking away and signaling to his teammates.
So dashing and eye-catching.
Xu En’tang asked, “Are they playing basketball right now?”
Yu Xiyue replied, “Yeah. They were supposed to come tonight, but my dad’s company has a basketball game.”
Xu En’tang: “Your dad’s company?”
Yu Xiyue: “They organize an annual basketball tournament. There are few people in the president’s office who play basketball, so they couldn’t form a team. My dad asked my brother to help out, so my brother brought in Ji Li and Jiang Ran, along with two people from the president’s office.”
Yu Xiyue then clicked on a second video.
In the video, Yu Chen could be seen.
“My brother is just there acting all cool.”
Yu Xiyue shook her head. “Even though he’s a handsome guy, with Ji Li Ge around, who would even look at him?”
Xu En’tang recalled the casual glance Tan Jili had given to the camera in the previous video and couldn’t help but agree in her heart.
Just then, the video cut off as a call came in.
Yu Xiyue said, “My mom is calling. I’ll step out to take it.”
Xu En’tang nodded.
After Yu Xiyue left, Xu En’tang took out her phone and began scrolling.
“Xu En’tang.”
Hearing her name, Xu En’tang looked up and saw a boy.
“Could you give me something of yours?”
Xu En’tang noticed a group nearby playing games was glancing over at her, and she guessed they were probably…
The boy replied, “Anything works.”
Xu En’tang had nothing but her phone nearby.
She looked around and noticed a hair tie on her wrist that she wasn’t using.
She took off the hair tie and asked generously, “Is this okay?”
“Sure, thanks.”
The boy left.
Xu En’tang looked over and confirmed they were indeed playing a game.
After a short while, the boy returned and handed the hair tie back to her.
“Thank you.”
Xu En’tang: “You’re welcome.”
“I’m Qin Xingyan.”
In the second and third generation circles of Beicheng, the connections were tight. Xu En’tang knew Qin Xingyan from her past life; he was a notorious playboy, living life to the fullest.
So aside from participating in their game, she didn’t plan to converse much with Qin Xingyan.
However, Qin Xingyan sat down beside her. “Why are you sitting here alone?”
Xu En’tang: “I came with Yu Xiyue; she went to take a call.”
Recently, Qin Xingyan had developed a liking for girls who appeared obedient and innocent.
“You should come play with me next time; let’s add each other as friends.”
Xu En’tang politely declined, “My phone is out of battery.”
Qin Xingyan didn’t expect her to be so firm, which piqued his interest further. He smiled and said, “But you were just using your phone; you must have some battery left to add me as a friend.”
Xu En’tang felt he was sitting too close and shifted slightly away. Just as she was about to speak again, she saw Meng Tian approaching.
“Qin Xingyan, what are you doing here?” Meng Tian asked.
Qin Xingyan had once had a crush on Meng Tian, but she had her eyes set solely on Lu Jin, and it appeared she was on the verge of getting close to him.
There was no point in competing with Lu Jin for Meng Tian.
“Just making friends,” Qin Xingyan replied.
Meng Tian: “That’s good; make sure to befriend properly.”
She then turned to Xu En’tang, smiling as she introduced herself. “I’m Meng Tian. I’ve heard Lu Jin mention you; I know you live in Fuyuan.”
Her tone was friendly. “You’ve just arrived in Beicheng; you should make more friends.”
Qin Xingyan, not expecting her to chime in, said, “Exactly, let’s add each other as friends first.”
Xu En’tang replied, “I don’t add strangers.”
“What stranger?” Just then, Yu Xiyue returned from her call.
Qin Xingyan: “We already know each other’s names, so how can that still count as strangers? We’ll get to know each other better over time.”
One of the girls with Meng Tian added, “Yeah, we’ll get familiar in no time.”
Just then, someone finished singing a song, and she suggested, “How about you both sing a song together?”
Qin Xingyan: “Sounds good! Let’s do a duet.”
The surrounding crowd started to cheer.
“Sing! Sing!”
“They’re perfect for a love song.”
…
Xu En’tang remained seated, unmoving.
Meng Tian, being considerate, persuaded her, “With so many people cheering, why don’t you sing a song with him? Otherwise, he won’t know how to back down.”
Xu En’tang calmly looked at her. “It’s the impulsive suggestions that make it hard for someone to back down.”
Yu Xiyue chimed in, “Exactly! If you’re worried about him not knowing how to back down, whoever suggested it should sing.”
At that moment, He Jiayu appeared.
He seemed oblivious to the atmosphere, first smiling at Xu En’tang before turning to Meng Tian. “Meng Tian, I’ve been looking for you. A Jin wants you to come over.”
When Meng Tian heard it was Lu Jin looking for her, she left with He Jiayu.
As soon as she left, the girls with her also departed, leaving only a few who had been cheering.
Yu Xiyue turned to Qin Xingyan and asked…
Qin Xingyan chuckled awkwardly. “Yu Xaiojie, spare my vocal cords.”
After Qin Xingyan left, Yu Xiyue snorted coldly and said to Xu En’tang,
“This Qin Xingyan keeps changing girlfriends and even steps on multiple boats at the same time; you shouldn’t pay him any attention.”
Although she was tasked with looking after Xu En’tang, she also genuinely liked her and wanted to offer some advice.
Xu En’tang nodded.
Yu Xiyue: “How come, while I was on a call, Meng Tian got involved?”
Xu En’tang recounted Meng Tian’s words.
Yu Xiyue frowned.
“She’s not even Lu Jin’s girlfriend yet, but she’s already acting like she has a special relationship with him. She’s trying to position you as his sister, make you his sister-in-law, and set you up with someone else.”
If it had been any other girl with thinner skin, she would have half-heartedly agreed to sing with Qin Xingyan.
Once a love song was sung, rumors would spread easily, linking her to Qin Xingyan.
Yu Xiyue: “If she fell into the moat, the entire city of Beicheng could drink green tea; what a good brew!”
Meng Tian happily went to find Lu Jin.
This was the first time Lu Jin had actively sought her out; judging by He Jiayu’s tone, he had even searched for a while.
She was filled with anticipation.
Lu Jin was looking at his phone when he looked up upon seeing her.
Meng Tian: “Lu Jin, I heard you were looking for me?”
Lu Jin looked at her without speaking.
Meng Tian sensed a hint of mockery in his eyes, and the joy in her heart vanished, replaced by a bad feeling.
“What’s wrong?” She asked.
Lu Jin curled his lips. “You’re not even my girlfriend yet, and you’re meddling so much?”
His tone was playful and teasing but actually cold.
Meng Tian’s expression froze, uncertain if he was referring to what had just happened.
He never interfered in the petty squabbles between girls.
Lu Jin continued, “My grandparents treat her like the apple of their eye. What do you think they’ll do if they find out you’re encouraging her to get together with someone like Qin Xingyan?”
Meng Tian tried to explain, “I—”
Lu Jin interrupted, “Stop with your little schemes.”
