A Summer Night’s Affair
A Summer Night’s Affair Chapter 27

Chapter 27: “That’s more like it.”

In her past life, since Xu Entang often followed Lu Jin around, Lu Jin’s girlfriend and other girls who liked Lu Jin began to look at her unfavorably.

Later, Lu Jin changed girlfriends one by one, and none showed any interest in Xu Entang.

Everyone realized that Lu Jin might just see Xu Entang as a little sister.

For a long time, Xu Entang was regarded as Lu Jin’s sister.

Girls who liked Lu Jin began to try to befriend her, giving her gifts and inviting her out to play.

In reality, Xu Entang was resistant to being seen as Lu Jin’s sister.

She didn’t want to be his sister at all.

But she was also enamored with the closeness this identity brought her with Lu Jin.

Later, a girl handed her a letter.

She asked, “What is this?”

Actually, she had already guessed what it was.

The girl said, “This is a love letter I wrote; please help me deliver it to Lu Jin.”

Xu Entang felt a bittersweet and numb feeling rise within her.

“You should give it to him yourself.”

The girl replied, “I’m too shy to give it to him in person, and I’m afraid he won’t accept it.”

“Tangtang, please help me give it to him, I beg you.”

After the girl finished speaking, she ran off.

Xu Entang looked at the love letter in her hand, feeling it was very hot to touch.

This girl was Lu Jin’s type.

She didn’t want to give the love letter to Lu Jin but couldn’t bring herself to tear it up.

The girl was quite nice, and her personality was good.

Several times, she passed by a trash can and paused.

Once, she almost threw it away.

That day passed amidst her hesitation.

After school, she saw Lu Jin.

At that time, she often clung to Lu Jin to ask him to explain problems to her. However, that night, she didn’t speak.

“What are you thinking? You seem distracted,” Lu Jin asked.

Xu Entang looked at him, two little figures in her mind fighting fiercely.

Lu Jin: “Do you have something to give me?”

The two little figures in Xu Entang’s mind disappeared, and she looked at him in surprise.

He seemed to know something.

Lu Jin suddenly tapped her on the head and asked irritably, “Xu Tangtang, which side are you on? You just pass things along when someone asks you to?”

Xu Entang: “Of course I’m… on your side.”

So he knew about the love letter.

“How did you find out?”

Lu Jin: “Someone saw it and told me.”

Xu Entang felt a bit relieved that she hadn’t thrown the love letter away.

She took out the love letter.

Lu Jin didn’t take it.

“From now on, don’t deliver love letters for others. Only cause trouble for me.”

Xu Entang responded with an “oh,” feeling joyful inside.

“I won’t help others deliver letters anymore.”

Lu Jin rubbed the spot on her head where he had tapped her, “That’s more like it.”

However, later on, he still ended up with that girl…

Lu Jin suddenly asking her to call him “brother” reminded Xu Entang of this incident from her past life.

The two were still standing in the corridor, with winding passages stretching endlessly behind and in front of Xu Entang.

The lights along the way flickered in layers, resembling a dream.

Her slender body stood upright, her eyelashes drooping, lips pressed tightly together in silence.

Though she showed no expression, she looked as if she had been wronged.

Wronged yet stubborn.

Lu Jin tugged at the corner of his mouth and nonchalantly said, “If you don’t want to call me, fine. You make it seem like I bullied you.”

He then asked, “What do you want from me?”

After a second or two, Xu…

Entang said, “You don’t need to reply to the message from our teacher.”

The message mentioned hoping for a reply and more communication.

“I’ll go to the teacher tomorrow to change the number.”

Lu Jin: “Suit yourself.”

The next day, Xu Entang went to Ms. Wu to change the contact information.

Ms. Wu was easy to talk to and asked, “Change it to whose number?”

Xu Entang actually didn’t have any parents she could contact.

Mr. and Mrs. Lu were both old, and she didn’t want them to worry about her.

She thought for a moment and finally left Aunt Zhou’s number.

Because of the extra day of school due to the adjustment of the schedule, this week felt extra long.

Finally, it was Friday.

After school, after resting at Fuyuan for a while, Xu Entang went to the dining room for dinner.

Lu Jin was also there tonight.

Although Lu Jin had been staying at Fuyuan recently, he rarely ate dinner at Fuyuan this week, going out every day.

Yesterday, Mr. Lu got angry and said that Lu Jin must be home tonight and not allowed to go out.

At this moment, Mrs. Lu, Lu Jin, and Xu Entang were all there; only Mr. Lu was missing.

Lu Jin languidly rested one hand on the table and asked, “Where’s grandpa? He told me to eat at home, but he’s not here himself.”

Mrs. Lu: “Your grandpa is on the phone.”

A few minutes later, Mr. Lu arrived.

He saw Lu Jin and frowned.

“Playing outside all day, how many dinners have you had at home this week?”

Lu Jin: “Isn’t it because you called me back?”

Mr. Lu snorted, “I still have to call you.”

“If only you were half as considerate as Tangtang.”

Lu Jin glanced at Xu Entang, who was quiet and looked extremely well-behaved, and echoed, “Yes, we don’t have a Tangtang who is as well-behaved.”

Mrs. Lu glared at him.

“Tangtang, ignore him. I made a few dishes with Licheng flavors tonight, eat more.”

Xu Entang nodded, “Okay.”

Lu Jin chuckled, “Why should I be ignored?”

Mr. Lu: “That’s just the way it is. Tangtang usually keeps us company.”

Mrs. Lu: “Fuyuan has been much livelier since you came, Tangtang.”

Mr. Lu: “Not for much longer.”

Mrs. Lu: “Why not for much longer?”

Mr. Lu: “Old Tan called just now, asking when he can come pick up Tangtang.”

It was already mid-October.

In the blink of an eye, Xu Entang had been staying at Fuyuan for over half a month.

Lu Jin paused slightly and glanced at Xu Entang.

Mrs. Lu: “Isn’t there still half a month left?”

Mr. Lu: “Exactly! There’s still half a month, I don’t know what he’s in such a hurry for.”

He almost got into an argument with Old Tan on the phone just now.

There’s still half a month, and he’s already in such a rush to make arrangements.

And, he just wants Tangtang to continue staying at Fuyuan, so what!

On the other side, Old Tan was also angry after the call.

They agreed that each family would have her for two months, taking turns.

Old Lu’s implication on the phone just now was that he didn’t want to send Tangtang over when the time comes.

What, he’s the only one who’s good to Tangtang, is he?
