Chapter 2: I Want This Child
After Chi Han left, Qin Wen sat in the living room, feeling empty for a long time. It was almost midnight when he finally seemed to regain a bit of energy. He stood up, supporting himself on the armrest of the sofa. Darkness swept over him instantly. Even though he couldn’t see clearly, he could still feel a familiar dizziness. This had been going on for half a month. Was it because he hadn’t had any pheromone comfort for a long time?
“I should go to the hospital tomorrow,” Qin Wen thought to himself.
Omegas are extremely fragile. After their differentiation, their fate is tied to their future Alpha. In this world, Alphas represent strength, intelligence, and unparalleled superiority. A powerful Alpha is absolutely rational, a masterpiece crafted by God, especially someone like Chi Han, a top-level Alpha. In comparison, Omegas are much more humble. Although the “Omega Protection Law” has been improving over the past two years, their genetic disadvantage is predetermined. An Omega abandoned by an Alpha will have a very miserable end. They only have one chance in their lifetime to wash away the mark on their neck. If they encounter a scumbag again the second time, the chances of that Omega surviving past thirty are slim.
Pheromones are the key link between Alphas and Omegas. In the three years Qin Wen and Chi Han were married, aside from the heat period, he hardly ever felt Chi Han’s pheromones properly. Fortunately, Chi Han was strong enough that even an occasional mark could make Qin Wen feel comfortable for a long time.
What to do in the future? Qin Wen looked at the ceiling, distorted by the rippling water, as he immersed himself in the bathtub. Chi Han had never fully marked him, only temporarily. And the last time…
“Whoosh—” Qin Wen suddenly sat up in the bathwater, then pinched his brow hard to stop himself from thinking further. But the man’s sexy, low gasps seemed to echo in his ears again. Wash away the mark? Actually, it’s not that troublesome. If it’s not a complete mark, you can wait for the pheromones on the gland to dissipate a bit, then find a new Alpha to cover it with his pheromones. Over time, it will fade away.
But Chi Han’s pheromones were very domineering, like a dense forest swept by wind and snow, filled with a faint scent of cedar, followed by an unfathomable chill and mystery.
The first pheromone contact was when Chi Han encountered Qin Wen’s heat period while being absolutely sober. The man was stunned for a moment, then quickly approached. They were legally married, so Chi Han didn’t hesitate to bite Qin Wen’s gland. Even now, Qin Wen found it hard to describe that feeling, only that the genetic suppression was indeed strong. He was almost instantly conquered by Chi Han.
He wanted to kneel in the forest, dissolve into the pine scent, and willingly be dragged into an unseen, untouchable abyss.
Qin Wen didn’t have many belongings. After his bath, he packed his clothes into two suitcases, but there were still a lot of small scattered items. After all, he had lived there for three years, so he ended up contacting a moving company.
He barely slept all night. In the morning, when he woke up groggily, his stomach was severely acidic. He lay by the toilet, vomiting for a long time, cold sweat layering his body. He didn’t know how long this state lasted until the doorbell rang. Qin Wen forced himself to stand up, rinse his mouth, change clothes, and open the door, startling the moving company staff.
Although Qin Wen was ruthless in his methods outside, it was clear from his appearance that he was an Omega.
His features were extremely striking, with upturned eyes. If not for the seriousness between his brows, it would be easy for a seductive demeanor to show. His skin was fair, and his figure was slender. He wasn’t the soft and cute Omega popular at the moment, but rather more cold and captivating, with a pair of gold-rimmed glasses adding a touch of elegance.
Qin Wen’s complexion was visibly poor. Given today’s societal care for Omegas, the staff still asked, “Are you okay?”
Qin Wen nodded politely in thanks, “I’m fine.”
After the staff loaded his things onto the truck, Qin Wen took one last look at the house he had lived in for three years. Some emotions in his heart were on the verge of breaking, but he stopped them in time, silently turning to leave.
The last leaf of the sycamore tree fell at Qin Wen’s feet, then was blown further away by the wind.
The new apartment was only eighty square meters, but it was in a neighborhood with good security and transportation. Qin Wen never liked rooms that were too big; they felt too empty and lacked a sense of security.
After paying the moving company and roughly organizing, Qin Wen took a taxi directly to the hospital. He used to have stomach problems, but they hadn’t flared up in over a year. At the hospital, he registered for the gastroenterology department. Unexpectedly, after a series of tests, nothing was wrong. The attending doctor, a female, looked at Qin Wen with an inscrutable expression for a while, then asked him to get a blood test. Qin Wen didn’t understand this but followed the doctor’s orders.
Half an hour later, Qin Wen sat in the doctor’s office, watching the doctor’s mouth open and close. His face was even paler than before he came, his lips trembling slightly. Only then did he hoarsely ask, “Are you… sure?”
“Yes,” the doctor nodded solemnly. “You’re five weeks pregnant. Did you and your Alpha… about a month ago?”
“Yes…” Qin Wen replied softly before the doctor could finish. He suddenly closed his eyes, then repeated clearly, “Yes.”
The doctor instinctively glanced outside, “Where’s your Alpha?”
This time, Qin Wen was silent for a longer time. The doctor seemed to understand something and tentatively asked, “Are you two having a fight?”
“No,” Qin Wen said softly, “we’re divorced.”
“Divorced?!” The doctor suddenly widened her eyes. “That’s ridiculous! An Omega without an Alpha’s pheromone comfort can’t safely have a child. According to the Omega Protection Law, I can give you a form for an abortion. You can’t keep this child!” It wasn’t the doctor being alarmist. Pregnant Omegas are much more fragile than usual. Those with unstable emotions need their Alpha by their side at all times. Just as the doctor was about to sign the form, a cold hand stopped her. The doctor looked up to see Qin Wen shaking his head, “No abortion.”
The doctor seemed not to understand, “What did you say?”
In that moment, Qin Wen had already finished his internal struggle. He was not a fragile Omega by nature. Some things Alphas could do, he could do too, even better. Pheromones indeed greatly affect a pregnant Omega, but not entirely. In the past three years, the days Chi Han was by his side were few, yet he survived, didn’t he?
More importantly… Qin Wen gently placed a hand on his abdomen. He wanted this child. No matter how many times he analyzed the pros and cons, his heart told him: keep this child.
Qin Wen looked into the doctor’s eyes and said, word by word, “I want this child.”
