Chapter 14
Luo Wan wasn’t interested in watching what happened next; she simply turned around and left.
Rui Sisi wanted to step forward to stop her, but a single glance from Luo Wan directly scared her off.
Just as she walked out the door, she crossed paths with Sheng Yujie, who had hurriedly arrived.
He gave her a fierce glare before quickly entering.
It was obvious he was in a hurry to calm down Luo Rou.
Feeling quite good, Luo Wan walked outside. There was a familiar Maybach parked at the entrance.
She had ridden in this car once before; it belonged to Sheng Qing.
Why was he here at this hour?
Curious, Luo Wan approached. The backseat window happened to be lowered, revealing the man’s delicate and handsome face.
“Get in.”
The man’s words were succinct, and then he lowered his head again.
Luo Wan obediently got into the car. It was then she noticed the laptop on the man’s lap, his hands swiftly tapping on it.
His well-defined fingers flew over the black keyboard, a sight to behold.
“Why are you here?” she asked.
Luo Wan didn’t assume he had come specifically to pick her up.
At her question, Sheng Qing lifted his head and looked at the somewhat forlorn expression on the girl’s face.
In a serious tone, he said, “If you ever want to go back home, you can tell me. I can accompany.”
“You.”
“No need, I…” Luo Wan wanted to say she could manage on her own. But before she could finish her sentence, the man interrupted her.
“We are husband and wife. It’s my responsibility as a husband to prevent you from being wronged.”
“I know about your family background. You don’t need to be strong.”
In Sheng Qing’s perception, Luo Wan was the vulnerable one, the one who needed protection.
Hearing the man care about her more than her own biological father did, it would be false to say she wasn’t moved.
Though she hadn’t suffered any losses just now, perhaps it was the experience of familial betrayal or finally having someone who could understand her grievances, Luo Wan’s complexion didn’t look good.
She sat in the car with her head bowed, not speaking.
After a moment, Luo Wan felt a large palm stroking her hair.
She looked in the direction of the hand’s owner, puzzled.
Meeting her gaze, Sheng Qing didn’t stop his action.
“Don’t women like to be comforted like this?” he asked.
Luo Wan was even more puzzled. You, a CEO of a listed company, who could you possibly be comforting like this?
“Who are you comforting?” she asked.
Sheng Qing casually replied, “I used to raise a female golden retriever when I was a child. I would comfort her like this every time.”
Luo Wan widened her eyes in disbelief, then glared at him fiercely.
The large palm on her head was removed, and Luo Wan pointed at her own nose, saying, “You compared me to a dog.”
“You’re much better behaved than a dog.”
Sheng Qing closed his laptop, watching the girl pouting with a playful expression, finding her extremely adorable.
With such playful banter, Luo Wan forgot about the incident at the Luo family.
Back at Xiyuan, Mrs. Li had already prepared the meal.
The young girl was still mulling over being compared to a dog in the car, so during dinner, they sat far apart, one on each side of the table.
After dinner, Luo Wan returned to her bedroom, while Sheng Qing went to the study.
In the afternoon, when he heard Luo Wan had gone back to her parents’ home, knowing the kind of people her family were from the investigation of her background, he was worried she might be mistreated, so he put down his work and followed her, standing guard at the door.
The work delayed in the afternoon would have to be caught up on in the evening.
Luo Wan returned to her room and took a shower.
Thinking about spending time alone with him later and considering the man’s vigorous physicality, she felt aches in her waist.
So she deliberately showed a bit of anger earlier, hoping to avoid tonight.
She lay on the soft bed, watching the clock pointing to eleven without seeing him return.
She couldn’t help but feel suspicious, wondering if he was angry.
She regretted going to pick her up today.
