Chapter 27
A large stack of chips was placed beside her, even more than the big winner, Mrs. Sheng.
Those who didn’t know would think Luo Wan was the one who won.
“Thank you for your hard work, Uncle Wang,” Luo Wan said politely, despite the pain in her heart.
The second half of the card game began.
With the experience of the previous hour, Luo Wan didn’t lose as badly this time, managing to defend herself barely.
Meanwhile, Sheng Qing, who was abroad, was busy with the relocation of the Sheng Corporation headquarters back to the country.
Suddenly, he received a spending notification on his phone. Opening it, he saw that it was a five million spending from the supplementary card he gave Luo Wan.
Sheng Qing was puzzled by the spending message.
This girl always made it seem like spending a bit of his money was like asking for her life, and she was always so frugal with him.
Then it dawned on him.
Sheng Qing waved to Xu Zheng and the others to leave, then called Luo Wan.
As the call connected, he could hear noisy voices in the background.
“Pong.”
“Another pong.”
“Hu, all one suit.”
“This girl’s luck isn’t good today.”
These voices were all blurry, and finally, he heard a clear sigh over the phone.
“Sigh.”
Luo Wan resignedly handed over her chips.
“Are you playing cards?” Sheng Qing heard the commotion on the phone and a slight smile formed on his lips.
His little wife truly surprised him. They had only been apart for a day, and she had already learned how to play cards.
A new round began.
Luo Wan was already a novice and now, having to answer the phone, she became even more flustered.
After all, this involved finances, so a certain man was directly abandoned.
“I’m busy right now. Let’s talk later tonight.”
With that, he hung up the phone.
Sheng Qing stared at the darkened screen, his smile growing wider.
He had just heard the voice of the old lady on the phone.
Surely, Luo Wan had lost to her.
The card game lasted until six in the afternoon before breaking up.
The other two old ladies had won quite a bit. After praising Luo Wan, they happily went home.
Meanwhile, Luo Wan felt like a defeated rooster, hanging her head low.
Luo Wan had always been independent and didn’t like owing favors.
When she married Sheng Qing, she had already decided not to covet his wealth.
Luo Wan had decided long ago that if she couldn’t manage to make it work with Sheng Qing, she would divorce him.
Now, with all this debt, she had to find other ways to earn it back.
She had dinner with the two elderly at the old house.
The old lady, satisfied with the success of her scheme, was in a good mood and kept serving Luo Wan dishes.
Meanwhile, Sheng Grandpa felt neglected. He had been looking forward to his daughter-in-law coming to the old house, but she spent the whole afternoon playing cards, leaving him on the sidelines.
“Grandpa, have some.” Luo Wan noticed his expression and quickly served him a piece of braised pork.
“This time it’s okay, but next time you have to box with me,” he said.
“Okay, I promise.”
Seeing the childishness in Sheng Grandpa’s eyes, Luo Wan chuckled softly.
After dinner, it was already getting dark.
The old lady was worried, so she insisted Luo Wan stay at the old house.
It was Sheng Qing’s room from before.
Although Sheng Qing hadn’t been back for years, the room was still cleaned daily, so it was quite tidy.
This room held many memories from Sheng Qing’s childhood to adulthood.
Luo Wan wasn’t curious about other people’s belongings. She went straight to the bathroom to take a shower.
When she came out, she randomly picked a shirt from the wardrobe belonging to Sheng Qing and put it on.
The man was nearly six feet tall, so even a simple shirt on Luo Wan looked like a dress.
Thinking about the call she missed earlier from the man, she decided to call back.
Suddenly, her phone rang, showing the caller ID as Luo Minghui.
Since the last incident, Luo Wan had no expectations of her father, so she simply hung up.
However, today, Luo Minghui seemed unusually patient.
Every time Luo Wan hung up, he would call back again.
Frustrated, Luo Wan finally answered the call coldly.
“What is it?”
“You little brat, finally decided to pick up. Tell me, what’s going on with your sister?” he demanded.
“You should ask her,” Luo Wan frowned.
“She’s in custody now, how can I ask her?” Luo Minghui was now as restless as an ant on a hot pot. Luo Ruo was the daughter he had carefully groomed. She was supposed to marry into the Sheng family in the future, and such scandals couldn’t be tolerated.
Since the incident, he had rushed to the police station, thinking that regardless of what Luo Ruo had done, he could easily resolve it with a little intervention.
But even with Sheng Yujie’s involvement, the other party remained
Loosening up, he said, “I’ve been told that either Miss Luo apologizes to the parties involved, or we handle it officially.”
This demand seemed simple enough.
But for Luo Ruo, who had always been haughty, apologizing to that woman from the countryside was akin to killing her outright.
Luo Minghui couldn’t stand to see his daughter wronged, so he thought of letting Luo Wan soften her stance.
“You little brat, hurry up and go to the police station to get your sister out. Just say it was a joke between sisters.”
“A joke?” Luo Wan chuckled self-deprecatingly. “That joke of my sister’s was too much. If I hadn’t discovered it in time, I’d be the one in there now. You probably wouldn’t even see a trace of me then.”
“You’re fine, aren’t you? Don’t be sentimental. Go to the police station right away,” Luo Minghui grew impatient.
“I’m not going,” Luo Wan refused bluntly.
“You little brat, you’ve grown some backbone. Where are you now? I’ll come over and kill you,” Luo Minghui’s temper flared, and he wished he could strangle her.
“I shouldn’t have given birth to you in the first place. Ingrate, you sent your own sister to prison.”
Luo Wan sneered.
“Don’t try to glorify yourself. It was my mother who bore the pain of childbirth for ten months to give birth to me. You not only failed to fulfill your duties as a husband and father but also had affairs outside and fathered a child. Now you’re talking to me about the debt of childbirth. Isn’t it a bit too late?”
With that, Luo Wan hung up the phone directly.
She threw her phone heavily on the bed, her chest still heaving violently.
She had never seen such a shameless person.
A minute later, her phone rang again.
This time it was Sheng Qing calling.
“Hello.”
As she answered the call, Luo Wan’s anger had not subsided, so her voice was cold.
The man immediately sensed something was wrong and asked, “Who made you angry?”
“No one.”
Luo Wan didn’t want to talk about it. After spending these few days together, she found this man increasingly perfect, but the more she felt that way, the less she wanted to reveal her own shortcomings.
Since Luo Wan didn’t say anything, the man jumped to conclusions.
“Is it because Grandma won your money today and you’re not happy?”
“I’m not that petty. Besides, I used your card to pay. But don’t worry, I’ll find a way to pay you back,” Luo Wan assured him.
Upon hearing this, the man spoke earnestly, “Wan Wan, we’re husband and wife. It’s normal for you to spend my money. I don’t want to hear you use the word ‘repay’ when it comes to me.”
