Chapter 28
“Alright.”
Luo Wan nodded contentedly, feeling the anger in her heart dissipate.
The two chatted about the card game from the day before.
Sheng Qing had already guessed that the old lady had intentionally made Luo Wan lose money, possibly colluding with the other two families to cheat. However, he didn’t expose the old lady’s scheme.
Ten minutes later, the call ended, and Luo Wan quickly drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, after breakfast, Luo Wan wanted to return to Xiyuan.
After losing so much money yesterday, she had to find a way to earn some back, or else she wouldn’t even have any emergency money on her.
Wang Shu went to the underground garage to get the car while Luo Wan waited at the main gate.
At this moment, a Mercedes-Benz stopped at the entrance of the villa.
Then two men and a woman got out of the car.
It was Sheng Yu Jie and Luo Minghui’s couple.
These past few days, Sheng Yu Jie had been running around for Luo Ruo’s matter. But he couldn’t find anyone willing to help. It seemed like someone had been warned in advance, as everyone was avoiding him like the plague. There was no other choice but to seek help from Sheng Lao Ye. After all, when Sheng Lao Ye was young, he was the president of Sheng Corporation and had a lot of influence in Huaguo.
As soon as they got out of the car, they saw Luo Wan standing at the gate.
At this moment, Luo Wan was wearing a completely different dress from her usual style, with her slightly curled hair lazily falling behind her. In the morning light, a gentle breeze blew, causing her hair and skirt to dance lightly, making her look like a celestial being who had accidentally fallen into the mortal world.
Sheng Yu Jie was mesmerized.
Was this still the country bumpkin he remembered?
This kind of pure temperament, not to mention Luo Ruo, would be hard to find even in the entire Huaguo.
Luo Minghui and Rui Tianfeng also turned their heads to look at Sheng Yu Jie, who was standing there in a daze.
When they saw the completely transformed Luo Wan, their eyes widened in unison.
What had this girl been up to these past few days? How could she have changed so much?
Rui Tianfeng realized what was happening and quickly stepped forward to block Sheng Yu Jie’s gaze.
“Yu Jie, let’s go inside first.”
Reminded, Sheng Yu Jie snapped out of his daze and quickly averted his gaze.
At this moment, a car emerged from the villa’s underground garage.
The car drove out and stopped in front of Luo Wan.
Seeing Luo Wan about to get into the car, Luo Minghui hurriedly shouted, “Stop.”
Luo Wan turned her head at the sound, and when she saw the three people in front of her, her eyebrows furrowed slightly.
“Where have you been these past few days?” Luo Minghui demanded angrily.
“That’s none of your business.”
“Quickly come with me to the police station, say you forgive your sister, and ask them to release her.”
Finally finding this stubborn girl, it seemed luck was on their side. As long as she spoke up, they wouldn’t have to beg around everywhere.
No one knew what kind of connections this girl had, to make even the police chief show her face.
Luo Wan smirked coldly.
“Why should I go? She’s trying to frame me.”
Luo Wan was about to get into the car when Luo Minghui hurriedly went over and reached out to block the car door.
“Because she’s your si—”
As he spoke, his gaze suddenly fell on Uncle Wang sitting in the driver’s seat.
Instantly, his face was filled with anger as he pointed and loudly interrogated Uncle Wang.
“Why didn’t you go to accompany Mr. Zhang? Now you’re here with this old man, just like your mother, so despicable.”
He thought he could exchange Luo Wan for some investment, but now this second-hand goods, how could he still make money?
Luo Minghui was very indignant.
Sheng Yu Jie also saw it, his gaze changing from admiration to disdain.
He had suspected it when they were at the police station, and now seeing the two together only confirmed his suspicions.
People truly had no shame, stooping to such levels.
None of them noticed Luo Wan’s darkening expression.
Her fist was clenched at her side, her eyes slightly narrowed. She grabbed the collar of Luo Minghui’s clothes and warned, “That was your last chance. If you slander my mother again, I won’t let you off.”
With that, she forcefully pushed him away.
Luo Minghui was caught off guard and almost stumbled. Fortunately, Rui Tianfeng came over and helped him, preventing him from embarrassing himself.
Luo Minghui still wanted to curse, but Rui Tianfeng reminded him in a whisper, “Minghui, Luo Ruo is still in prison.”
With his rage, Luo Minghui finally remembered the purpose of their visit today.
Taking a few steps forward, he grabbed her wrist, trying to pull her into his car.
“No matter what, you must come with me to the police station today and rescue your sister.”
Inside the car, Uncle Wang noticed his wife’s discomfort.
Uncle Wang bent down and immediately got out of the car to help.
Luo Wan, mindful that Uncle Wang was also involved in the tug-of-war, didn’t use too much force. She felt somewhat constrained and was about to be pulled into the car when someone came from the villa.
“Who’s making a scene outside someone else’s gate?”
In the morning, just as the Sheng family’s elderly couple finished their meal and were about to go out, they heard the commotion outside.
Although Sheng Yu Jie usually acted under the Sheng family’s banner, these two elders of the Sheng family were rarely seen.
After a few seconds of confusion, they finally realized what was happening and hurriedly approached to greet them warmly.
Luo Minghui and Rui Tianfeng also immediately let go of their hands and stood properly.
Before them stood the most esteemed figures of the Sheng family, and they didn’t dare to act recklessly.
“Respected elders, hello,” Sheng Yu Jie warmly exclaimed.
As the Sheng elderly couple were old and their eyesight was poor, they didn’t notice Luo Wan.
They just looked at Sheng Yu Jie with confusion.
“Oh my, old age. Many people are forgotten.”
The old lady couldn’t recall this distant relative who hadn’t visited in a long time, so she could only awkwardly explain.
Luo Minghui and Rui Tianfeng exchanged glances.
Wasn’t she supposed to be from the branch of the Sheng family? How could the Sheng family’s old lady not remember her?
Accustomed to being pampered by everyone, Sheng Yu Jie’s expression darkened for a moment, then he forced a smile again, feeling helpless.
“Elders, it’s me, Yu Jie. I used to come to play when I was ten.”
Upon hearing this, the old lady looked at the old man with confusion.
Luo Wan, watching from the side, almost wanted to applaud.
To think this person was swaggering around outside under the banner of the Sheng family, yet the Sheng family matriarch didn’t even recognize him. It showed how insignificant his influence was.
Uncle Wang wanted to step forward but was stopped by Luo Wan’s outstretched hand.
She wanted to see what these people were up to today.
Two minutes later, after the old man had gone through everyone in the house in his mind, he finally remembered.
A loving smile spread across his face.
“You’ve grown so big, and all these years you never came to see us.”
“Here I am now,” Sheng Yu Jie replied with a smile, relieved that the old man had finally remembered.
If he hadn’t remembered, he wouldn’t have known how to explain to Luo Ruo’s parents.
As a former eldest grandson of the Sheng family, Sheng Yu Jie was naturally known to the old man.
However, even though their branch was connected to the Sheng family, they were still separated by several generations.
The further back they went, the less interaction there was.
