Chapter 33
Those who wanted to hear have heard, and my anger has subsided.
Luo Wan issued a final warning.
“Live and act with integrity, never harbor malicious intentions towards others, or you’ll ultimately suffer the consequences yourself.”
With that said, she left with Uncle Wang.
In the car, Uncle Wang looked at Luo Wan through the rearview mirror, puzzled.
“Madam, they insulted you just now. Why did you forgive them so easily?”
Luo Wan looked quietly out of the window, smiling faintly.
“I’m just letting go of myself. There’s no need to hold onto things and people who make me unhappy in life.”
At her words, admiration filled Uncle Wang’s eyes.
It’s rare to hear such insightful words from a young person.
Back at the police station, Luo Rou couldn’t wait to leave for even a moment, hastily making her way out.
She happened to see the tail of Luo Wan’s car disappearing around the corner, which infuriated her enough to stomp her feet on the ground fiercely.
Upon returning to the Luo residence, Rui Tianfeng explained to Luo Rou what had happened these past few days and her plans.
A few minutes later, Luo Rou finally calmed down.
“I didn’t expect that woman to be so lucky, actually marrying into the Sheng family.”
“But a woman from the countryside wanting to secure the position of the Sheng family’s lady? It’s nothing but wishful thinking.”
Excitement flashed in Luo Rou’s eyes.
“Mom, what should we do now?”
“In a few days, it’s her cheap mother’s memorial day. She and Sheng Qing should come back then. We just need to take some measures…”
The two leaned their heads together, whispering quietly.
Back at Xiyuan, as Luo Wan was about to go upstairs, her phone rang.
She thought it might be some guilty man calling, but when she checked, it was an overseas call.
She pressed the answer button.
“You little junior sister, you’ve been back for so long, and not a single call. Have you forgotten about me and Master?”
As soon as the call connected, a noisy voice came from the other end.
No need to ask, she knew who it was.
Luo Wan rolled her eyes.
“Senior brother, can’t you be a bit more serious?”
“You’re almost forgetting about us, how can I be serious?”
Luo Wan felt a headache coming on.
Her senior brother was like this, with a handsome appearance but a personality like a monkey.
Except for the quiet moments in the lab, he was jumping around all the time.
“What’s up?”
“Recently, Master and Second Master are competing again. This time, the poison Second Master used is a bit tricky, and Master has been thinking for a long time.”
“Just realized we’re missing one ingredient, and it’s hard to find. But I heard it might appear at an auction in China soon. Now both Masters are indisposed and childish. I have to stay here and watch over them, so I’ll have to trouble my junior sister with the matter of the medicine.”
Hearing this, Luo Wan also felt overwhelmed.
Her two Masters, one a doctor and the other a poison maker, always competed against each other, each trying to prove their superiority.
There were even a few times when they experimented with drugs on her, leaving her stomach upset for half a month.
Luo Wan closed her eyes and resigned herself, saying, “Send me the picture.”
“Okay.” The person on the other end was delighted to hear Luo Wan’s agreement and immediately hung up.
Soon, her phone received the picture.
Upon opening it, Luo Wan almost spat blood.
This wasn’t buying medicine; it was like asking her to sell her blood.
The medicine was called Crystal Snow Grass, grown at the top of the world.
Due to its extremely harsh growing environment and the fact that only one plant appeared every twenty years, it was extremely rare and expensive.
Just one small plant would cost ten million.
For Luo Wan, who was currently penniless, even one million was unattainable.
She had earned some money over the years, all of which had been used to buy medicine for her two Masters. The little that remained had been lost in the last card game.
Where could she come up with ten million in such a short time?
Just as she was pondering what to do, the phone rang again.
This time it was Sheng Qing calling.
“Hey, what are you doing?”
“Daydreaming.”
Luo Wan had completely lost the intention of questioning the man. She answered the call perfunctorily.
“I’ll be back the day after tomorrow. Remember to pick me up.”
Luo Wan blurted out without thinking, “Why should I pick you up? Don’t you know the way or do you not have a driver?”
The smell of gunpowder was evident.
Sheng Qing was stunned for a moment.
“Why are you so explosive?” the man asked in a deep voice.
Luo Wan also realized her attitude wasn’t good and quickly softened her tone. “Okay, send me the time.”
Perhaps the man was busy and didn’t have time to pay attention to Luo Wan’s mood. He just hastily said, “There will be a charity auction on the night I return. You’ll come with me then.”
“Take good care of yourself at home these two days, don’t think about anything, and if you’re unhappy, wait for me to come back.”
“Okay.”
“Good girl.”
He hung up.
Thinking of the charity auction mentioned by the man just now, Luo Wan quickly turned on her computer to search for the details of the auction.
Sure enough, she found an advertisement for the auction.
It explained in detail the items that would be auctioned.
Luo Wan scrolled down and sure enough…
She saw the introduction of Crystal Snow Grass and silently noted the sequence of the auction times.
For the past two days, except for meal times, Luo Wan had locked herself in her room, immersed in her design drafts.
She had designed a total of five initial drafts and selected the one she was most satisfied with to send to the organizers.
In this jewelry design competition, the preliminary round involved submitting design drafts directly to the organizers. To ensure fairness, the works in the preliminary round could only represent that round. The subsequent rounds, including the elimination rounds and the finals, required contestants to design on the spot.
Luo Wan was confident in her design skills, but with the substantial prize money for this competition, it would naturally attract many talented contestants. So, she had to be fully prepared.
With the jewelry competition settled, there was still one tricky matter.
There was only one day left until the charity auction, but the ten million yuan still hadn’t been secured.
Moreover, prices at auctions like these were not fixed; it was a matter of who bid the highest.
If someone else was interested at the time, they would inevitably raise the bid, so she needed to prepare more money.
With only one day left, besides borrowing, she had to take a more unconventional approach.
Luo Wan immediately opened her computer and entered a series of account numbers and passwords.
The page redirected to an underground website.
The information on such websites was of a dark nature, so it was quite secretive, accessible only to top hackers.
Luo Wan browsed through it, looking for a quick way to make money.
Suddenly, an advertisement caught her attention.
An underground close combat competition, regardless of life or death.
The first prize was fifteen million yuan.
Luo Wan noted down the address and the contact code.
She quickly changed into clothes suitable for combat and left the house.
The competition took place in the basement of an abandoned factory in the suburbs.
By the time Luo Wan arrived, many people were already there.
At the entrance, hired mercenaries in full gear checked everyone’s identities.
Luo Wan mentioned the code she remembered from the underground website, and the person gave her a mask before letting her through.
Most of those who knew about the gathering here had identities that couldn’t stand the light of day. To avoid unnecessary trouble, each person here would be given a mask.
As she walked inside, the deafening sound of music filled her ears.
Men and women in strange attire came and went, with cigarettes dangling from their mouths as they constantly uttered vulgar words.
The whole scene could be described as murky and foul.
Luo Wan frowned, suppressing her disgust.
By now, there were already people competing in the ring.
This fight was based on holding the ring; whoever was the last one standing on the platform at the end of the time limit would be the winner.
Although it was unfair to those who went up first, in such underground venues, they were always straightforward; they didn’t care about these things.
