Chapter 40
Luo Wan threw the dirty fabric in her hand into the trash can.
Then she looked at the waiter and asked, “You said someone deliberately bumped into you earlier.”
“Yes.”
Luo Wan’s gaze swept over the faces of everyone present.
“Did you see who it was?”
The wealthy wives all had the look of spectators, except for Mrs. Xu, whose gaze was evasive, clearly showing guilt.
The waiter shook her head.
The person had attacked her from behind, and by the time she reacted, the perpetrator had already disappeared into the crowd.
Seeing this, Mrs. Xu felt relieved.
She put on a proud and arrogant expression again.
Stepping forward two steps, she taunted, “Women like you who resort to any means to seduce the wealthy are looked down upon by many people.”
At Mrs. Xu’s words, Luo Wan smiled coldly.
She had never seen anyone expose themselves so quickly.
Since she entered until now, the only ones who had a clear motive to cause trouble for her were Su Yunwei and this Mrs. Xu.
When the incident occurred, Su Yunwei was relatively far away, leaving only Mrs. Xu with the opportunity.
“It seems Mrs. Xu harbors a deep hatred for women like me who seduce the wealthy.”
“It’s not just me, but everyone here is disliked,” Mrs. Xu tried to drag all the wealthy wives into the situation.
Luo Wan frowned, looking puzzled, and asked, “But I heard that Mrs. Xu was just a salesperson before marrying into the Xu family. She was able to marry into the Xu family by becoming a mistress and displacing the original wife.”
“So I want to ask everyone present, who is more despicable, the mistress or someone like me who seduces the wealthy?”
Luo Wan had already gathered enough information about these wealthy wives online.
Most of these wealthy wives married into their families through family alliances, with only a few resorting to improper means to rise in status, and Mrs. Xu was one of the few.
For families like these, which CEO didn’t have a few mistresses outside?
So the original wives all hated mistresses.
The gaze of everyone turned to Mrs. Xu, full of disdain.
Mrs. Xu was exposed, her face pale.
It took her years to make these people forget her identity as a mistress and integrate into this circle.
Now, because of this woman, these people were reminded of it again, making her so angry that she raised her hand to slap her.
Luo Wan directly grabbed a plate of juice and splashed it on her face.
“Take that.”
Covered in sticky juice on her face and body, Mrs. Xu stared in disbelief. The makeup on her face was not waterproof, and now it looked patchy and messy, with false eyelashes falling and sticking to her face. The whole scene was absurd.
“Ah!”
Mrs. Xu suddenly screamed and reached out. Today, she was determined to teach this little bitch a lesson.
Without the restriction of the long skirt, Luo Wan’s movements were much more agile, and she dodged directly.
Mrs. Xu missed her target and attempted to strike again.
Just as Luo Wan was about to dodge, she suddenly fell into a familiar embrace.
Then she saw someone flying out.
“Anyone who dares to hit me doesn’t want to live,” Sheng Qing reprimanded in a deep voice, holding Luo Wan protectively in his arms. A layer of coldness instantly surrounded him.
The onlookers couldn’t help but shiver involuntarily.
This obvious protective instinct didn’t seem like what Miss Xu had described as a dispensable woman. It seemed she had already caught this young master’s attention.
Mr. Xu arrived late, and when he saw his wife lying on the ground, he was about to feel sorry for her, but what he heard next froze him.
“Mr. Xu, it seems Sheng’s side needs to reconsider our cooperation.”
Seeing the cooperation they had just finalized about to fall apart, Mr. Xu couldn’t care less about helping his wife up. He hurriedly asked, “Mr. Sheng, but we’ve already agreed.”
Sheng Qing’s expression was stern, showing no mercy.
“We have reasonable suspicions. If Mr. Xu can’t even control his own wife, how can he manage a company? Sheng’s side won’t take the risk of cooperating with such a company.”
After Sheng Qing finished speaking, he instructed Xu Zheng, who was beside him.
“Inform everyone that Sheng’s side will no longer collaborate with companies of questionable ethics. Any company whose CEO mistreats his wife and indulges in mistresses will be blacklisted.”
Xu Zheng complied and immediately sent out a notice on the company’s internal messaging platform.
Mr. Xu sat on the ground, looking despondent.
It was over for the Xu family.
Entering Sheng’s blacklist was equivalent to cutting off all paths.
Once their original business partners learned of this news, they would rush to withdraw their investments in order to curry favor with Sheng’s side.
Within two months, the Xu family would be on the brink of collapse.
Mrs. Xu, who was beside him, stopped wailing. She felt a chill down her spine because Mr. Xu’s expression was terrifying.
Just as everyone was still processing what happened, Mr. Xu directly pulled Mrs. Xu up.
With a round swing of his arm, he slapped Mrs. Xu’s face one after another.
“Ah, ah, please stop.”
“You despicable woman, how did I ever fall for you?”
“Every day, besides causing trouble for me, what else are you good for?”
“Now, look what you’ve done. You’ve ruined the Xu family.”
“I’ll kill you, you despicable woman.”
Mrs. Xu begged for mercy as she was repeatedly hit, crawling on the ground.
Luo Wan looked away, unable to bear witnessing it.
“Throw these two out,” Xu Zheng ordered, and the security guards came and escorted the two out, one on each side.
The wealthy wives in the audience were all terrified.
They secretly wondered if they had said anything inappropriate earlier.
In the back of the crowd, Su Yunwei squinted slightly.
The sight of the two hugging each other tightly made her jealous to the point of madness.
Her nails were deeply embedded in her flesh, but she was unaware of the pain.
She silently vowed to win back Sheng Qing’s brother.
She had thought that Mrs. Xu would be able to intimidate Luo Wan and make her retreat.
But Mrs. Xu was too foolish; she hadn’t even scratched the other party and ended up suffering heavy losses herself.
After this little incident, everyone knew Luo Wan’s status.
Until the auction began, no one bothered Luo Wan again.
Ten minutes later, the auction was about to begin, and everyone entered the auction hall in an orderly manner.
Sheng Qing sat with Luo Wan directly in the middle of the front row.
From here, they could see every item being auctioned.
Others dispersed according to their status, sitting behind or to the left and right.
Su Yunwei sat in the third row.
After the host gave a brief introduction, the first item of the day was brought out.
A landscape painting.
It was said to be painted by a late famous artist and was now being auctioned by his great-grandson for charity.
The starting price was one hundred thousand.
People gradually bid, and it went up to two hundred thousand.
Finally, it was won by a knowledgeable and talented university professor.
The following items were smaller collectibles.
In these auctions, the initial items usually had lower prices, with prices increasing as the auction progressed.
Luo Wan’s herbs were the tenth item up for auction.
