Chapter 19: Give My Sister a Home

After Xia Nanxi and the others returned home, Xu Xiufen poured a cup of tea for Zhan Chengyan.

She comforted him, “Chengyan, Mom knows you want to make Mom proud, but Mom isn’t the kind of person who cares about wealth. It doesn’t matter if you have a house or not, as long as you and Xixi work hard, we’ll add some money later, and you’ll be able to buy a house eventually.”

Zhan Chengyan knew his mother-in-law thought he was bragging, but a warm feeling welled up in his heart.

“I know, Mom.”

Xu Xiufen smiled reassuringly, “Anyway, you and Xixi don’t have to work tomorrow, so stay here tonight and leave tomorrow. I’ll cook you a good meal tonight.”

Normally, Zhan Chengyan never took a break on weekends, but he liked the people in Xia Nanxi’s family, making him feel comfortable.

“Okay? What do you mean okay?” Xia Nanxi disagreed. “Mom, why are you letting him stay? Where will he sleep tonight?”

Normally, his older brother and second brother’s rooms were empty, but now they were both at home.

“Where will he sleep? Of course, he’ll sleep in the same room as you. What’s wrong? You two have been married for half a year, you’re practically an old married couple by now, are you still shy?”

Xu Shufen was an experienced person, knowing that even if young couples slept in the same room without doing anything, just chatting could deepen their feelings. The most important thing for her daughter and son-in-law right now was to strengthen their bond.

Now that her son-in-law was at her house, if she didn’t create some opportunities for them, she’d be blind.

Besides, she couldn’t have a grandson, so having a grandchild was just as good.

With the whole family present, Xia Nanxi couldn’t say anything.

“Fine, he’ll stay with me! Zhan Chengyan, come with me upstairs and get familiar with the place.”

She’d just sleep on the floor anyway.

“Sit down.” Xia Nanxi pointed to the sofa.

Xia Jingyuan walked in from outside, his arms crossed, looking at Zhan Chengyan with displeasure.

“In our family, money is secondary, character is more important. Stop bragging, stop putting on a facade, do more practical things.”

He then took out a bank card and placed it on the table. “This has the 200 million I won from the Global Thoracic Surgery Competition. You add some more and buy a house with it. I don’t want my sister to be homeless after getting married.”

Without giving Zhan Chengyan and Xia Nanxi a chance to speak, Xia Jingyuan slammed the door shut.

Before they could react, Xia Jingshen came in secretly.

He didn’t say anything, first taking out a card.

Then he said to Zhan Chengyan, “If you’re a man, don’t pretend. This card has 300 million, you add some more and buy a house, give my sister a home!”

“Second brother…”

Xia Nanxi was about to speak, but Xia Jingshen patted her head. “No need to thank me, we’re family, you’re happy, this money was well-spent.”

With that, he turned and left.

Then Xia Jingyang came in.

He looked at Zhan Chengyan and shook his head, “tsk tsk” twice. “You really went all out with this act. A limited edition shirt from Hermes, a custom-made suit from Van Cleef & Arpels, a Mou Master’s final watch from Italy. If these are all real, you’d be worth tens of millions, brother-in-law.”

Zhan Chengyan wanted to pretend to be poor and go all out, but he thought the people in this village wouldn’t recognize the luxury brands he was wearing. He didn’t expect this third brother-in-law to see through it.

He smiled, “These are all high-quality replicas, but the house is real.”
