Chapter 1
“Qing’er, your aunt has arranged another blind date for you. Do you want to go and meet him?” Bai Yu, Yu Qing’er’s mother, walked into the room with a smile while Yu Qing’er was drawing. She was carrying a bowl of soup. “Here, drink this while you listen to what I have to say.”
“Another blind date?” Yu Qing’er calmly put down her brush, accepted the bowl, and began drinking the chicken soup while preparing herself to hear her mother praise the guy to the skies.
“Your aunt said this one is really good—he’s 180 cm tall, has a respectable job at a bank, 32 years old, and quite the intellectual—he’s read a lot of books. Should we go check him out?” Bai Yu said with a grin.
Yu Qing’er put down the half-finished soup and asked, “Then why is he still unmarried at 32? Is he divorced? Widowed?”
Bai Yu quickly replied, “No, no, your aunt said there’s absolutely no issue this time! The guy is really decent!”
Yu Qing’er raised an eyebrow. “Did Aunt tell him that I’m disfigured and can’t have children? He doesn’t mind that I’m infertile? His parents don’t mind either?”
Bai Yu instinctively said, “Well, your aunt probably brought it up tactfully. Otherwise, wouldn’t that be deceiving him? He definitely knows—he agreed to meet before your aunt told us.”
Yu Qing’er paused for a moment, then said, “Alright, I’ll go. But Mom, don’t get your hopes up. Based on experience, the information Aunt gives is never fully accurate. This man probably isn’t even 175 cm tall, and his ‘reading’ is probably exaggerated. The only real parts are likely his age and the fact he works at a bank.”
Bai Yu, already familiar with her sister’s matchmaking “skills,” replied, “No worries, let’s just go and take a look. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll move on.”
After Bai Yu left, Yu Qing’er let out a helpless sigh.
She had transmigrated into this world two days ago. When she first arrived yesterday, she was completely dazed. But after talking with the family, she realized she had been transported into a retro-style novel set in the 1980s.
She had become a cannon-fodder side character.
Her character setup: a pretty girl from a well-off family, but also spoiled and temperamental.
She had a handsome fiancé, but after the male lead had just a short conversation with the female lead, she became jealous and picked a fight with the heroine. They argued by a river, and things escalated until they both fell into the water.
The male lead rushed over and jumped into the freezing lake to rescue them, but couldn’t tell who was who in the cold, murky water. He saved one person first—and naturally, it was the female lead.
The original Yu Qing’er was rescued later, after soaking in the ice-cold lake for another 20 to 30 minutes.
That fall into the lake left a long, deep scar across her face, disfiguring her once-beautiful appearance.
Worse still, the extended exposure to freezing water worsened her already weak health. She had a condition of cold in the womb, and after that incident, her menstrual cramps became unbearable. Doctors diagnosed her with a constitution that made it difficult to conceive, and said she should be mentally prepared to never get pregnant.
Her fiancé’s mother overheard this. A disfigured future daughter-in-law who also might not bear children? She immediately demanded the engagement be broken off.
After all, the Lu family had only one male heir in nine generations. How could they accept a daughter-in-law who might not give them a child?
So, the original Yu Qing’er was dumped. Her fiancé never stood up for her, avoided her afterward, and even started dating the heroine.
Half a year had passed since the broken engagement. The female lead and male lead were happily together, while the original Yu Qing’er had gone on numerous blind dates. But once men found out she was disfigured and infertile, none of them wanted her.
Eventually, the original Yu Qing’er became deeply depressed and took her own life—there were still scars on her wrist from the suicide attempt. That’s when the real Yu Qing’er transmigrated into her body.
In her past life, Yu Qing’er was a fashion designer from the future.
Coincidentally, she looked almost identical to the original host, except for the facial scar.
Yu Qing’er reached up and touched the scar. With a thought, her body disappeared from her room and entered a completely different space.
It was her own personal dimension, which had come with her through the transmigration. Inside was a two-story villa, surrounded by lush greenery.
She walked into the villa, went to the living room, picked up her cup, and poured herself a drink from the water dispenser.
The water inside was special—endless, never running out no matter how much she drank. But it had a limit of 1 liter per day.
The taste was sweeter than ordinary water, and Yu Qing’er couldn’t help but wonder: was this the so-called “spiritual spring water” that heroines in other novels always had?
In her past life, she’d lived a smooth, peaceful life—never injured or deeply troubled. After drinking this water for a long time, all she felt was that her skin and complexion kept improving. Nothing else seemed unusual.
She didn’t know whether that was due to the water or just because she was a wealthy, successful designer living a good life.
But now that she was in this world, she could test it.
If this water really had spiritual properties, the scar on her face should gradually fade after drinking it for a while.
Even if it wasn’t magical spring water, it didn’t matter.
She had a strong drive to succeed. The world she was in now was fictional, yet modeled on the 1980s—an era with conservative values where women were expected to marry young and raise children.
But with her disfigurement, she might be able to avoid marriage. After all, marrying a stranger and having children right away wasn’t something she could easily accept.
After drinking the water, she slept well. The next morning, after breakfast, Bai Yu urged her to dress up quickly.
She casually put on the most fashionable outfit for the era, tied two braids, and applied a bit of lip balm—that was her version of dressing up.
Around noon, her aunt arrived, excited. “Qing’er, ready? You look great in that outfit! Come on, let’s go—we’re meeting at the restaurant.”
Yu Qing’er obediently carried her bag and followed behind like a sweet, docile girl.
The blind date was set in a modest restaurant, with only a few tables occupied.
Her aunt led her to a corner where a man was already seated.
“Qing’er, take a look. This is Zhou Zheng, Comrade Zhou. Zhou, this is Yu Qing’er, my niece,” her aunt said with a smile.
Zhou Zheng looked quite refined, wore glasses, and had a slim build. Sitting down, he didn’t appear tall—Yu Qing’er took one glance and immediately knew: there was no way this man was 180 cm.
