Chapter 40 – 040

“What else?” Gu Xian acted as if he were completely unaware that Xie Yunjing was on the verge of exploding like a volcano. Lazily tugging at Xie Yunjing’s collar, he smirked wickedly. “Of course, I’m doing it on purpose. Why do you think I ate the snacks Gu Leyu sent?”

Xie Yunjing’s grip tightened, crumpling the pages of the book in his hand, which was at least three hundred pages thick.

Gu Xian rested his folded hands on Xie Yunjing’s shoulders, deliberately leaning in close. With an unusually gentle tone, he whispered in his ear, “Third Young Master Xie, I’ve poisoned my mouth. If you kiss me, be careful—you might end up dead~”

Having had his fill of teasing, he patted Xie Yunjing’s hand, which was still pressing tightly against the crumpled pages of the book. “Third Young Master Xie, if you really can’t focus on reading, you should just go to bed early.”

With that, he straightened up, ready to leave. “Goodnight.”

But before he could leave, Xie Yunjing grabbed his wrist and forcefully pressed him down onto the pillow.

Xie Yunjing’s kiss wasn’t unfamiliar to him, yet this time, Gu Xian’s wide, astonished eyes froze in shock for several moments. It wasn’t until Xie Yunjing’s tongue reached the back of his mouth that he snapped back to reality, struggling desperately.

“Mm! Mmm!!”

Both of Gu Xian’s hands were pinned firmly above his head, his chin held in an iron grip, making it impossible for him to turn away. No matter how hard he struggled, it was all in vain.

He glared, attempting to protest with his eyes and force Xie Yunjing to regain his senses. But Xie Yunjing only deepened the kiss, relentlessly sweeping through his mouth as if determined to claim every last inch.

The intensity of the kiss was overwhelming, and the waves of suffocating pressure only added to the chaos. Gu Xian’s gaze quickly lost its clarity, a heavy mist of tears blurring his vision so much that he couldn’t even make out Xie Yunjing’s expression. No matter how hard he tried to glare, it carried no weight or threat anymore.

Gu Xian’s head was spinning, and just as he felt he might actually suffocate to death, Xie Yunjing finally let him go.

Ignoring the discomfort of oxygen deprivation, Gu Xian took a sharp breath and immediately snapped, “Are you crazy?!”

“Aren’t you the one who wanted to poison me?” Xie Yunjing retorted, gripping his chin firmly. “As you wish.”

“…”

Gu Xian choked on his words for a moment before struggling against the hands still pinning his wrists above his head. “Let me go!”

As soon as Xie Yunjing loosened his grip, Gu Xian broke free, shoving the person pressing down on him and quickly scrambling off the bed.

Thud!

Gu Xian’s knee hit the floor hard, though it was unclear whether he had lost his balance or if his legs had simply gone weak.

Xie Yunjing immediately straightened his back, his posture tense. However, Gu Xian acted as though he didn’t feel the pain at all. He quickly got up, his steps unsteady as he rushed out of the bedroom.

The sound of footsteps thudding down the stairs disappeared briefly, only to return moments later. Gu Xian came back with a glass of water and a box of allergy medicine. As he placed the water on the nightstand, some of it sloshed over the edge, spilling onto the surface.

With rough movements, Gu Xian tore open the box, pulled out the instructions inside, and began reading them at lightning speed.

“Third Young Master, what happened?”

The elderly man’s worried voice came from the doorway. Gu Xian hadn’t closed the door when he returned, and Uncle Kang, dressed in his pajamas, was standing there, clearly woken up by the commotion downstairs.

Gu Xian’s hand trembled slightly, crumpling the instruction leaflet he was holding.

“Nothing serious,” Xie Yunjing said, his breathing slow and deliberately controlled. “We were just messing around and had a little accident. Uncle Kang, you should go back to sleep.”

The elderly man, naturally, wasn’t entirely convinced. “Are you sure we don’t need to call a doctor?”

“No need.” Xie Yunjing grabbed Gu Xian’s hand, holding it firmly. “We’ve dealt with this before; we can handle it. Besides, if we call a doctor at this hour, others might get suspicious, and the news could get out.”

“Alright.”

If the news of Xie Yunjing’s mango allergy were to leak, it could bring about even greater danger. Uncle Kang suppressed his worries but still offered a reminder: “If the medicine doesn’t work, you must call a doctor.”

“Of course. I wouldn’t joke around with my health,” Xie Yunjing reassured the elder. “Uncle Kang, could you please close the door for us on your way out?”

Uncle Kang nodded but didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he suddenly called Gu Xian.

“Young Master Gu.”

Gu Xian, feeling guilty for betraying the elder’s trust, didn’t dare to look back at him at first. Only now did he turn his head. “Uncle Kang, what is it?”

“Young Master Gu, you must take good care of the Third Young Master.” Uncle Kang spoke with a solemn tone. Before Gu Xian, who was stunned and unable to respond, could nod, Uncle Kang had already closed the door behind him.

The bedroom fell silent for a moment.

Gu Xian quickly tore out a tablet of allergy medicine, placed it into Xie Yunjing’s palm, and handed him the glass of water. “Take it, now!”

Xie Yunjing stared at the pill in his hand. The white tablet was slightly damp, evidence of Gu Xian’s nervousness, as his hand had been sweating when he handed it over.

Xie Yunjing casually placed the pill on the bedside table. “No need. My allergic reactions aren’t as severe as they were when I was a kid.”

Gu Xian froze for a moment, then exploded in anger. “Are you kidding me?!”

He forcefully shoved the pill back into Xie Yunjing’s hand. “Take it, now!”

Xie Yunjing didn’t put the pill down this time, but neither did he take it. He simply let it rest in his palm. “It’s unnecessary. You haven’t eaten any of that stuff since you came back, and even if you didn’t rinse your mouth, there shouldn’t be enough left to trigger a reaction.”

Gu Xian’s eyes fell on Xie Yunjing’s reddening neck and listened to his increasingly labored, damp breaths. He grabbed Xie Yunjing’s hand, the one holding the pill, and raised it insistently. “I told you to take the medicine, didn’t you hear me?!”

“No.” This time, Xie Yunjing didn’t even bother coming up with an excuse.

Gu Xian was so furious he felt like strangling him. “Are you a child? You’re throwing a tantrum at a time like this!”

He knew he was in the wrong. He shouldn’t have teased Xie Yunjing like that, knowing full well that mango was practically a deadly poison to him. But Xie Yunjing’s current behavior was infuriatingly deserving of a beating.

After losing patience entirely, Gu Xian slammed the glass of water back onto the bedside table, then abruptly straddled Xie Yunjing. Snatching the pill from his hand, he forcefully pinched Xie Yunjing’s cheeks, making him open his mouth.

“Eat it when I tell you to!” Gu Xian growled, throwing both allergy pills into Xie Yunjing’s mouth with force. Then he covered Xie Yunjing’s mouth with his hand, glaring at him with fiery eyes. “Swallow it!”

The bitterness of the pills stimulated saliva production, and the accumulation of saliva naturally triggered a swallowing reflex.

Xie Yunjing’s throat bobbed a few times. Gu Xian pried his mouth open to check, and after confirming there were no pills left, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The water he’d thoughtfully brought up ended up being purely decorative. Gu Xian climbed off Xie Yunjing, picking up the glass to clean up the water that had spilled multiple times. As he did, he grumbled sarcastically, “Impressive. You don’t even need water to take pills, huh? Hope it’s bitter enough to—!!”

Before he could finish, Xie Yunjing suddenly yanked him back and held him tightly. “You don’t actually want me dead.”

“…”

“Get lost. That’s only because I haven’t found the right opportunity,” Gu Xian retorted.

He tried to break free, but Xie Yunjing only tightened his hold.

“I’m a patient right now, and it’s your fault I’m having a reaction.”

“…”

“Haha, well, my apologies, but I’ve already administered treatment for you,” Gu Xian quipped with a dry laugh.

He stayed still in Xie Yunjing’s embrace for a moment before starting to struggle again. “Let go of me, or my breath might worsen your condition!”

“I like you.”

“…” Gu Xian paused, then replied impatiently, “Yeah, yeah, I know. You’ve said this before.”

“Gu Xian.”

Xie Yunjing gently but firmly pressed the back of Gu Xian’s neck, burying his face deep into the crook of his shoulder.

“I really like you.”

it’s frustrating that it costs more coins the further you get, it should go down not up since we have already spent s bunch, or charge a flat rate. I don’t think I will be reading too many more novels on here, at this rate it would almost be cheaper to just buy a book. It would be one thing if the coin amount went down, not up or stayed the same, but they charge more, I’ve already spent enough on coins, other sights you can earn coins too. I’m all for supporting the author, I also have a household to run, bills to pay.
