Chapter 301: Autumn Flowers (Part 1)
The sound of the door opening startled Shen Lingyao.
Turning her head, she saw Miao Jia, the naughtiest girl in the dorm, walking in.
Shen Lingyao tried to stand up.
But in a comical twist of fate, she stumbled and ended up sitting astride Zhao Qingfeng’s lap in a close embrace, their posture suggestive and intimate. Her clothes had slipped, revealing her shoulders and even the edge of her ample cleavage.
“Oh my…” Miao Jia stared wide-eyed at them, “Is this… is this… field play?”
What field play! That’s something you do in an open field, okay?
Shen Lingyao’s face turned incredibly red, as if she could design a three-bedroom apartment with her toes from the awkwardness. She quickly pushed Zhao Qingfeng away, stood up with a flushed face, and said, “Jiajia, don’t talk nonsense. We were practicing the piano for tonight’s performance. By the way, what are you doing here?”
Miao Jia chuckled, “Our class has a dance performance too, and the teacher sent me to get the drums.”
Each class could present up to two performances.
Unlike Zhao Qingfeng’s computer science class, Shen Lingyao’s major, predominantly female, prepared a variety of programs. The teachers, mostly women, unlike the ‘Buddhist’ attitude of Professor Yu, hoped their classes could win first place at the evening party to outshine other classes.
Women naturally compare more than men. They scrutinize and compare every aspect of their ‘opponent’ upon meeting, unlike men who greet each other like buddies, always discussing military, women, games, or sharing a simple joy like a cigarette.
“Oh…”
Shen Lingyao hurriedly helped with the drums, still blushing.
“It’s fine, carry on,” Miao Jia said after getting the drums, playfully slapping Shen Lingyao’s buttock and winking at Zhao Qingfeng, “Student Zhao, here’s a word for you: ‘A flower once bloomed must be picked; do not wait till no flowers are left to pick the branch.’ If you don’t seize the moment now, who knows what changes might happen later? Of course, I’m not hoping for you two to break up, but rather for you to be together for a long time. Love isn’t just about sweet nothings or affection; it also needs physical love and… ah… Lingyao, don’t push me, I haven’t finished yet. You two need to hurry up and do what lovers do. Really, it’s so comfortable!”
Before she could finish, Shen Lingyao had already pushed her out.
Such comfortable words, words of a predator!
“Phew…”
Back in her seat, Shen Lingyao puffed up her cheeks and pretended to be annoyed, “That Miao Jia is always so dirty, what on earth is she thinking about every day if not about men and women? She’s not like a person, more like a lioness on the plains…”
A lioness?
Zhao Qingfeng scratched his head, not very familiar with the animal kingdom.
Shen Lingyao suddenly realized that ‘lioness’ was also something Miao Jia herself had mentioned. She had once talked about those blush-inducing topics during dormitory night talks, mentioning how a lioness can mate over fifty times a day and even expressed a wish to be reincarnated as a lioness, to be the wildest female animal on the savannah.
“Ah, let’s not talk about her anymore!”
The more they talked, the more awkward it became.
Shen Lingyao simply pushed Zhao Qingfeng away and started playing the piano, singing ‘Invisible Wings.’
“How about it, does it sound good?”
After singing, she looked proudly at Brother Qingfeng.
Zhao Qingfeng gave a thumbs up, “Silly pheasant, it sounds really good, your singing has improved, way better than when you were younger!”
Hearing Brother Qingfeng’s praise, Shen Lingyao’s face beamed with pride, “Of course! My voice is a gift from heaven, mehahaha! If I can surpass Li Manrou, I’ll sing you to sleep every night, okay?”
Zhao Qingfeng nodded vigorously, “That would be great, I love listening to anything you sing, even ‘Good Father’ and ‘Catching Loaches’ would do. Anyway, no matter what you sing, I want to hear it all!”
Shen Lingyao rolled her eyes at him, “You’re just lying. When we were kids, you said my singing sounded like a rooster crowing. Would you still like it if I sang off-key?”
She knew her singing wasn’t perfect and wasn’t very confident.
Zhao Qingfeng gently pinched her cheek, “I’d like it, no matter how you sing.”
