Chapter 63: Doing Bad Things with a Lady? (2/2)
Shen Lingyao, worried, scampered like a lively deer to the snack shop at the intersection.
Only after her figure vanished into the night did Aunt Ding start the conversation with Aunt Feng, “Hongmei, the kids are grown up, and after the university entrance exam, they’ll truly be adults. As their elders, shouldn’t we start considering their future?”
“I’ve always thought Lingyao and Little Feng are quite a good match.”
“Do you remember how we used to talk about getting them together when we were young?”
“We even joked about them having several kids, so we wouldn’t have to fight over spoiling them.”
“Don’t worry about Old Shen. To be honest, I think Lingyao really likes Little Feng. I just don’t know what you think about it…”
Aunt Feng stopped in her tracks, tears uncontrollably welling up in her eyes.
How could she not wish for a son-in-law as good as Zhao Qingfeng, marrying someone like Shen Lingyao?
But at the end of the day, she and Aunt Ding were no longer the young girls of the past. Life and marriage had to be grounded in reality.
She knew her family’s situation all too well.
A single mother with a son, drowning in debt, uncertain if her son would even get into university. And even if he did, what kind of future could he really have?
Of course, she loved hearing Zhao Qingfeng’s grand ambitions.
But ultimately, until those dreams became reality, they were just empty words.
She remained silent, torn between hope and the harsh reality of her conscience.
Besides, even if Aunt Ding agreed, Old Shen was unlikely to easily consent.
Furthermore, Shen Lingyao was just 18, with a long future ahead. Who could guarantee that she wouldn’t meet a better man in university?
“Why bring this up…”
Her words turned into a resigned sigh.
Aunt Ding took a deep breath, gazing at the bright moon in the distant sky, sighing, “I really wish they could be together…”
This was a persistent dream, born from promises made between best friends in their youth.
Aunt Feng didn’t say more. After putting the cart away and sharing a hug with Aunt Ding, she went back upstairs alone.
…………………………
Meanwhile.
Shen Lingyao, happily carrying a bag full of snacks, arrived at the entrance of Tiancong Internet Café.
But what greeted her was a cold reception.
Zhao Ming blocked her way, “This is no place for you. We’re closing soon, no entry allowed. And just so you know, my cousin is busy all night with a girl in the small room. They’ve got jelly already, take your snacks back home.”
Her words struck like lightning.
Shen Lingyao stood frozen in shock.
She tried to squeeze inside to investigate.
But Zhao Ming wouldn’t budge, his mouth curled in a wicked grin, “Better leave now. My cousin is really busy, probably kissing by now, and who knows, they might do something even more outrageous soon, haha!”
With a clatter, the shutter door was pulled down, and Zhao Ming left with Zhang Ping, laughing. The closed door of the internet café seemed like an insurmountable mountain, keeping Shen Lingyao out.
She stood dazed for a full minute before thinking to check around the back of the café.
But her hope was dashed.
The curtains of the small room were tightly drawn, and the window was too high. Standing five meters away on a flowerbed, she could only glimpse two shadows through the curtain.
She watched, stunned.
A shadow resembling Zhao Qingfeng seemed to pull something out of his pocket and hand it to the other figure.
The other figure took it and then embraced Zhao Qingfeng in an intimate gesture.
