Chapter 6: Silly Girl, He’s Just Concerned About You
This winter, Tao Hua left her home with a small bundle, getting married.
However, Tao Hua hadn’t been out of the house for long when Sun Xiaolan caught up with her.
With a mysterious look, she pulled Tao Hua aside and, looking at Qin Feng, asked in a low voice, “By the way, you left in such a hurry, you probably didn’t prepare a wedding dress, right? Today is a double celebration for you—one, you’re getting married, and two, you’re finally leaving that horrible Chen family. You should at least make it a little more festive.”
“If you don’t mind, you can use my wedding dress. We have similar figures, and my husband and your husband are similar too. It should work out just fine!”
“Thank you, Xiaolan, but I don’t need it. My mother brought me her wedding dress from when she got married. She said I should wear it when I get to Qin’s family, but I didn’t have time to change earlier.”
“What about your husband? Has he prepared something?”
Tao Hua glanced back at Qin Feng and softly said to Sun Xiaolan, “He probably hasn’t. Yesterday, he saved me, and today he came to propose. We’re leaving right away, so how could he have prepared so much?”
“Then why don’t you ask him?” Sun Xiaolan suggested. “Ask if he’s willing to wear my husband’s wedding clothes. After all, marriage is an important event.”
“Alright,” Tao Hua bit her lip. “Wait here for me. I’ll go ask him and be right back.”
“Go ahead.”
Tao Hua nodded and quickly ran to Qin Feng’s side.
Qin Feng was tall, and standing beside him made her appear particularly small.
Although she had been brave in front of the Chen family and had even openly asked Qin Feng to marry her in front of everyone, now, alone with him, she felt timid.
And the subject of marriage made her shy!
Her face flushed, and she couldn’t look him in the eye. Instead, she lowered her head and whispered, “You probably haven’t prepared a wedding dress, right? The person who spoke to me earlier was Xiaolan from the village head’s family. She’s my close friend, and she and her husband just got married. She said we could borrow their wedding clothes. Would you… want to wear them?”
Finally, after a lot of hesitation, Tao Hua managed to explain herself, but her voice trembled towards the end. Her heart was racing uncontrollably.
Even though she was marrying quickly, she still looked forward to the wedding ceremony. After all, it was a once-in-a-lifetime event. She hoped that, despite everything, her husband would also wear wedding clothes and bow to Heaven and Earth, even if he didn’t have any elders, and even though she had severed ties with the Chen family. A simple exchange of vows would be meaningful.
Of course, she also understood the situation.
Qin Feng had only married her out of necessity. Not only that, but he had also paid fifteen taels of silver. He might not even consider this a happy occasion, so Tao Hua was prepared for him to respond coldly.
However, even with her expectations, she still felt a little disappointed when she heard Qin Feng’s answer.
She lowered her head, and Qin Feng couldn’t see her expression at all. He simply replied, “I think it’s better not to, I haven’t prepared anything. Please thank your friend for her kind offer, and we’ll invite them over for a visit another day.”
“Oh…” Tao Hua lowered her head to hide the disappointment in her eyes and quickly ran back to Sun Xiaolan.
However, she didn’t show her feelings to Sun Xiaolan. Instead, she smiled and said, “It’s fine, he’s a bit taller, so he was worried the clothes might tear. He said to thank you for your kind offer, and that he’ll invite you over for a visit another day.”
“Really? Well, I’ll be waiting for that celebratory meal!” Sun Xiaolan noticed the gleam in Tao Hua’s eyes when she mentioned Qin Feng and smiled before heading back home.
Tao Hua turned and followed Qin Feng, maintaining a step’s distance between them.
If Tao Hua didn’t speak, Qin Feng remained silent as well.
They walked and walked until they finally arrived at Qin Feng’s home.
Qin Feng’s house was backed by a large bamboo forest, with no yard at all.
The kitchen was connected to a storage room filled with firewood and hunting tools.
Tao Hua knew this was a new house Qin Feng had built because, when she had passed by this area on the mountain before, there was only a run-down thatched cottage.
Now, that cottage had been renovated by Qin Feng. It looked like it wouldn’t leak or be drafty anymore.
However, the house was very small, with only a bed, a wooden table with four stools, a wardrobe, and a chest. There wasn’t enough space for any more furniture.
Feeling a bit awkward, Tao Hua heard Qin Feng’s low voice from above her: “You can put your things in the wardrobe over there. I’ll tidy up outside.”
Tao Hua nodded and walked over to the wardrobe beside the bed.
After a moment, she turned back and asked, “Qin Ge, can I help you clean up a bit too?”
Qin Feng glanced at her: “From now on, this is your home. You can arrange it however you like.”
With that, he turned and walked away. Tao Hua looked at his tall figure and couldn’t help but blush.
From now on, this would be her home!
And this man… he was her husband!
Tao Hua, being naturally diligent, tidied up both her and Qin Feng’s clothes, then decided to take the blankets outside to dry them in the sun.
When she came in, she had noticed a large stone in front of the house. It was perfect for sweeping and drying the blankets.
