Chapter 107: The Genius, Little Jing
The moment Ruan Li heard the news, her heart almost skipped a beat, and her legs instinctively went weak. Fortunately, Fu Huaizhou was quick enough to catch her from behind he had also heard the voice over the phone.
“Don’t panic. The security at Yu Garden should be fine. Let’s check the surveillance footage first,” Fu Huaizhou said, remaining calmer. With two kids at home, he had already taken measures to strengthen security after hearing about what had happened to the Shi family years ago.
Shi Mu and Shi Xun, who were initially sitting down discussing, noticed the shift in their expressions and quickly stood up, their faces turning serious.
“Let’s go back to Yu Garden first,” they suggested.
Ruan Li calmed herself down, and the whole group, including the Shi family, headed to Yu Garden. The surveillance footage clearly showed that no strangers had entered or exited the house. The only one who had left was Fu Chengjing, wearing his backpack and heading to kindergarten.
Because both parents had been busy recently, the driver had been taking him to school for the past few days.
Just as Fu Huaizhou was about to pull up footage from the hallway, Ruan Li’s phone rang again. She answered it quickly.
“Miss Ruan?” a voice asked.
“Yes, this is she,” Ruan Li replied.
“I’m the class teacher at little Jing’s kindergarten. We need you or a family member to come to the kindergarten.”
About half an hour earlier, during free playtime in the kindergarten class, a few children were sitting around when one little boy turned to Fu Chengjing.
“Fu Chengjing, does your mom still call you ‘baby’? That’s so childish.”
Fu Chengjing’s face remained expressionless as he replied slowly, “My mom says I’m her baby, so it’s not childish at all.”
“Your mom is lying to you,” the boy taunted, sticking out his tongue.
“My mom is the best in the whole world,” Fu Chengjing said, his face showing signs of anger. “It’s not my fault if you aren’t called that. What my mom says is my business.”
As if that wasn’t enough, he added, “You’ve got too much time on your hands.”
The other boy was left speechless, his face flushing red, yet he still continued to pick on Fu Chengjing. “You’re such a show-off!”
Some other children, unable to stand it, joined in to support Fu Chengjing, which only made the little boy more upset until he finally left to play somewhere else.
Curious about Fu Chengjing’s home life, one child asked, “Didn’t you say you have a little sister? Why doesn’t she go to kindergarten?”
“Doesn’t she like school? Kids who don’t like school aren’t good kids.”
Fu Chengjing hugged his backpack tightly. “Who said she doesn’t go to school?”
Seeing him cling so protectively to his backpack, the children became even more curious, urging him to show them what was inside.
With a hint of pride, Fu Chengjing carefully unzipped his not quite closed backpack to reveal a little girl, delicate and chubby, who looked about three or four months old. She blinked her big eyes, curiously observing the children crowding around.
“You really do have a sister!” one of the kids said, fascinated. “What’s her name?”
Fu Chengjing, holding his sister tightly, answered with pride, “Ling Ying. It means the most precious jade. My sister is very beautiful, just like my mom both are the prettiest in the world.”
A chorus of exclamations erupted from the children, but Fu Chengjing kept a firm grip on his sister, refusing to let anyone touch her.
Suddenly, a concerned little voice spoke up, “Fu Chengjing, this is really dangerous. You’re going to get in trouble with your mom and dad.”
Fu Chengjing tilted his head, thinking for a moment. “No, I won’t. My mom and dad told me to take care of my sister.”
Another child chimed in, “Lu Tingyan, you’re just saying that because you don’t have a little sister.”
The boy who had been left out earlier rushed to tell the teacher what had happened. While the children might not know the significance of the family names in Beijing, the teachers certainly did. They were stunned to see Fu Chengjing holding what was practically a princess among the city’s elite, and immediately called Ruan Li.
It wasn’t even ten minutes later when Fu Chengjing, still focused on his sister, suddenly heard someone call his name. He looked up instinctively, and his eyes widened as he saw his parents standing at the door.
Fu Huaizhou’s expression darkened. “Fu Chengjing, come here now.”
At the kindergarten entrance, Ling Ying was safely cradled in Ruan Li’s arms, unaware of the fuss she’d caused. Fu Chengjing hung his head, clutching his backpack.
“Let’s go home,” Fu Huaizhou said, unwilling to scold him in public.
Fu Chengjing could sense that something was off, especially when he saw his two uncles standing there as well.
“Uncle, little uncle,” he greeted.
Shi Xun couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Genius little Jing, I’m truly impressed.”
Back at Yu Garden, Fu Huaizhou stared down at the boy standing in punishment. “Fu Chengjing, who told you to put your sister in your backpack and take her to kindergarten?”
“Why can’t I?” Fu Chengjing asked, genuinely puzzled. “I held her very steadily, and she didn’t cry.”
“And I didn’t let anyone touch her. I was very careful in the car too.”
His response made Fu Huaizhou laugh in disbelief, while Ruan Li struggled to keep up with his logic. She explained, “That’s not okay, Little Jing. Your sister is too little, and backpacks aren’t safe because they don’t have proper ventilation.”
“Oh, but I did leave a small gap open,” Fu Chengjing said, looking remorseful now. His eyes turned red, and he muttered, “I’m sorry. I just wanted my sister to come to school with me.”
For a moment, Fu Huaizhou was speechless, massaging his temples. In all his life, he had never seen behavior quite like this.
“Your sister is too young for school. When she’s older, she’ll go with you,” he explained.
Ruan Li pulled Fu Chengjing to sit next to her on the sofa. “Next time you want to take your sister out, you have to tell us first. Otherwise, everyone at home will be really worried.”
Fu Chengjing nodded. “I understand, Mom. I was wrong.”
That night, after the family’s scare, Ruan Li lay in bed, worried that today’s events might have left Fu Chengjing feeling down. After all, Fu Huaizhou had looked quite intimidating.
“Should we let little Jing sleep with us tonight?” she hesitated, looking at Fu Huaizhou.
Aware that he might have been too harsh earlier, Fu Huaizhou got up to check on his son. Just as he opened the door, he saw a small figure dashing down the hallway.
Ignoring his father, Fu Chengjing ducked under his arm and ran straight into the bedroom. Excitedly, he climbed onto the bed to show his mom the messages on his child’s smartwatch.
“Mom! Everyone says Ling Ying is beautiful! They asked if they could have her as their sister!”
Ruan Li couldn’t help but laugh.
Standing in the doorway, Fu Huaizhou realized his earlier worry had been unnecessary. “Fu Chengjing, back to your room,” he said, exasperated.
