Chapter 109: The “Daughter-Obsessed” Company Meeting
The tiny, fair-skinned fingers of the little girl poked and prodded his face for a while, seemingly curious about the unfamiliar texture.
Since Lu Tingyan had never held a small child before, the little girl might have felt uncomfortable. After a moment, she turned her gaze to her real brother, whose face was already flushed with frustration, and reached out for him.
Only then did Fu Chengjing’s expression soften a bit. He pressed his lips together as he took his sister from the other boy, a hint of unspoken disappointment in his eyes.
Back in familiar arms, Lingying reached up to hug Fu Chengjing’s neck. Her tiny mouth, with only a few rice grain sized teeth, opened and closed.
“Bro…bo,” she babbled, her words still indistinct, only able to make a few syllables.
Fu Lingying’s bright almond eyes were filled with a happy smile as she looked at him.
Fu Chengjing was momentarily stunned, and then a slightly panicked look crossed his face. He lifted his little sister a little higher, his eyes suddenly shining.
“Mom, Lingying called me ‘Brother!'”
Ruan Li was equally delighted, having expected her younger daughter to speak much later. She hadn’t imagined the first word would be “Brother.”
The room was filled with joy, except for the man standing next to Ruan Li, whose expression was a bit dark.
It was one thing when Fu Chengjing’s first word was “Mom.” It was another when he later stubbornly refused to say “Dad.”
But for their beloved daughter’s very first word to be “Brother” if she had just said “Mom,” Fu Huaizhou wouldn’t have felt any jealousy at all.
He watched as Fu Chengjing, who had been successfully consoled, cuddled and kissed his little sister, while the boy next to them, Lu Tingyan, seemed unsure what to do. Fu Huaizhou certainly hadn’t missed what had just happened.
He knew this boy wel he was the son of the Lu family, a company that had recently risen to prominence. Originally centered in the south and Europe, they had just begun expanding into the northern market, hinting at becoming one of the top four families.
Lu Tingyan, feeling the intimidating gaze, looked back at Fu Huaizhou. Realizing he’d just held someone else’s daughter, he couldn’t help but feel a little guilty.
Even later, when the two kids were back in kindergarten, the event was still on their minds.
“Fu Chengjing, your dad is pretty scary,” said Lu Tingyan with lingering unease.
Fu Chengjing nodded vigorously in agreement. “Yeah, he only smiles at my mom and sister. He’s really scary.”
A few more months passed, and little Lingying gradually learned to walk, though still a bit unsteadily. Naturally, Fu Huaizhou, now a skilled “dad babysitter,” took up the responsibility of teaching her to walk.
He was there every day, carefully holding her as she practiced.
Watching his dad’s careful movements, Fu Chengjing couldn’t help but ask, “Dad, why does my sister still get to sleep in the master bedroom even though she can walk and talk now?”
When he had learned to walk, he had gotten his own room. By the time he was ready for kindergarten, he wasn’t allowed in the master bedroom at all.
Fu Huaizhou glanced at his son, who was writing at a desk, and asked calmly, “Do you want that too?”
Knowing his father’s personality quite well by now, Fu Chengjing shook his head. “No, I just want to sleep with my sister.”
The little girl, practicing her steps on the carpet, looked up when she heard them talking. “Want,” she echoed softly.
Looking down at his daughter, as lovely as a porcelain doll, who was beginning to show a resemblance to Ruan Li, Fu Huaizhou picked her up and gently rubbed her cheek against his.
“If your sister says she wants to, then she can,” he declared.
That evening, when Ruan Li returned home after work, she didn’t find little Lingying in the master bedroom. Instead, she discovered her in Fu Chengjing’s room, where both children were fast asleep, likely tired out from playing earlier. Ruan Li lay down beside them, intending to rest for a bit, and ended up dozing off.
When little Lingying woke up in the middle of the night, she found herself nestled between her brother and mother. Quietly, she got up and wandered through the hallway, drawn by a familiar voice. She followed it to the study room door.
Assistant Qin, who was tidying up some documents, didn’t dare stop her and merely gestured toward Fu Huaizhou, who was still in the middle of a video conference.
The man gave a slight nod, signaling to let her pass.
The little girl wandered up to her father’s desk, tugging playfully at his pant leg and pointing to the desk that was much taller than she was. “Daddy, look.”
Understanding what she wanted, Fu Huaizhou effortlessly lifted her onto his lap.
The upper management of Fu’s company watched in surprise as the boss’s video feed was suddenly graced by a cute little girl, who occasionally touched the screen with her tiny hands.
The executive giving a report was momentarily stunned.
Fu Huaizhou gave a stern look, adjusted his daughter’s position on his lap, and said coldly, “Continue.”
Unfazed by the business talk, Lingying fidgeted, eventually climbing over to lie against her father’s shoulder, whispering in her soft voice.
“Daddy.”
“Hm?” Fu Huaizhou glanced down at her.
Taking her chance, Lingying reached out and grabbed his hair. Instead of pulling away, he lowered his head a little more, whispering, “What does Lingying want?”
“Here,” she said, holding up a pastel colored hair clip shaped like a flower, one her mom had bought. Carefully, she clipped it onto her father’s dark hair.
His once neatly styled hair was now tousled, but his expression remained soft as he continued to look at his daughter, occasionally squeezing her cheeks gently.
Except for the person still presenting, everyone’s attention was already on the adorable little girl.
After the report ended, Fu Huaizhou shifted to hug his daughter with one arm while maneuvering the laptop with the other. “That’s it for today. The details will be sent out by the secretary’s office.”
The moment the meeting ended, the company’s group chat exploded.
“Boss’s daughter is sooo cute!”
“Who knew our boss is such a ‘daughter-dad’? He didn’t even scold us today even though my presentation was a mess! Thank you, Boss’s daughter!”
“Screenshot of Boss wearing the colorful hair clip who wants it?”
One comment after another followed: “I want! Count me in!”
Assistant Qin, who rarely spoke in the group, also chimed in after a quick “Me too.” He slowly typed, “We should all say thank you to Princess Fu.”
Unbothered by the office gossip, Fu Huaizhou carried the little girl back to Fu Chengjing’s room, where he found Ruan Li and their son waking up groggily.
He gently placed Yingying on the bed, then pulled his drowsy wife into a hug.
“Too hot,” she murmured, pushing against his chest.
He glanced at the clock and whispered in her ear, “Have you had enough sleep? Does that mean we won’t sleep tonight?”
