Chapter 62: Mutual Affection or One-Sided Love
When Ruan Li glanced at Fu Yu, who was still playing on the computer next to her, she thought that while the news might not be accurate, it was half right. After all, this little guy really was the young master of the Fu family. Compared to Fu Xingchuan, Fu Yu was much smarter.
“Do I really look like someone who’s been married and had children?” Ruan Li gazed at the man next to her, who seemed unbothered by the news.
Fu Huaizhou looked at her. Since she had just removed her makeup after returning home, her face was bare, making her fair skin even more radiant. Her natural beauty made her delicate features, especially her alluring eyes, stand out more—soft and captivating rather than sharp.
“No, not at all,” Fu Huaizhou soothed in a low voice, knowing exactly what she was concerned about. “If I took you out right now, people would think I’m kidnapping a minor.”
Ruan Li stared into his dark eyes. Fu Huaizhou wasn’t the type to lie just to please her, so his words must be true, she reassured herself.
“Big Sis, isn’t this the least of your concerns right now?” Fu Yu chimed in, unable to stand watching any longer. Although he didn’t know how his uncle and Ruan Li had met after his uncle had just returned to the country, he could see they were just as affectionate as his own parents.
“They’re saying I’m your and Uncle’s child. My parents would probably love for me to live here.”
Fu Huaizhou glanced at him indifferently and said coldly, “I don’t want that.”
Children were clingy, and locking the door every night was annoying.
Ruan Li, reminded of the situation, slapped her forehead, suddenly realizing what she should be more worried about. She had just broken her contract with her former company, and when it came to PR, the only person she could rely on was Fu Huaizhou.
“Now you think of me?” The man beside her spoke slowly, sensing her gaze.
“Surely the great CEO Fu can handle a bit of gossip like this, right?” Ruan Li pouted and gave him a hopeful look. “You wouldn’t let me down, would you?”
Fu Huaizhou chuckled at her cunning eyes, his chest vibrating with laughter. “Don’t worry, everything will be fine by tomorrow.”
Ruan Li looked at him, unsure but with no better options, so she decided to trust him.
—
The next morning, as the world went about its daily routines, last night’s trending news had already been quietly replaced by new headlines. Half-awake, Ruan Li instinctively reached for her phone, remembering that she still had to head to the film set today.
Surprisingly, there was still warmth beside her. As she reached out, her hand touched the firm body of the man lying next to her. Groggily, she murmured, “You haven’t been going to work lately. Normally, you’d already be downstairs by now.”
That’s why, when they first started living together, they barely saw each other.
Fu Huaizhou responded with a deep “Mm,” his voice still hoarse from sleep. He finally understood why rulers in the past would abandon their duties it was far more comfortable to stay in bed with someone warm than to deal with cold, lifeless documents.
When Ruan Li checked the trending topics on her phone out of habit, she was instantly wide awake. Her name was still high up in the rankings, but something else caught her eye.
“Fu Group Officially Enters the Entertainment Industry” was ranked first.
She clicked on the headline and found that early this morning, Fu Group had announced the establishment of a new subsidiary, LZ Entertainment, marking its first step into the entertainment sector.
She shook the man’s shoulder. “Fu Huaizhou, have you gone crazy with making money?”
Fu Huaizhou, who had been awake since she reached for her phone, pulled her gently into his arms. “What would you like to teach me, Miss Ruan?”
“Fu Group doesn’t need the small profits from the entertainment industry. Why start a new company?” Ruan Li might not know much about business, but even she understood that with all of Fu Group’s industries, there was no need to focus on something as minor as entertainment, especially when it wouldn’t compare to the profits of real estate or tech investments.
“It’s for you,” Fu Huaizhou replied nonchalantly. “This way, Fu Group’s PR can be used directly for you, and we won’t have to explain things in a roundabout way.”
Ruan Li almost thought she was still dreaming. She was just a small actress, even with the recent popularity from her drama with Zhou Ji due to her acting skills and character design. She wasn’t influential enough to warrant such an investment.
The cost of starting an entertainment company would be more than she could ever earn in her lifetime as an actress.
“You really have lost it, haven’t you?” Ruan Li reached out to touch his forehead, nodding with a mock serious expression. “A bit warm. I’ll call the doctor.”
Fu Huaizhou pulled her back, amused by her reaction. “There’s nothing impossible about it. The company was created for you.”
He had begun planning this as soon as he realized her former company wasn’t doing its job and was allowing fake news about her to spread.
Ruan Li froze for a moment, then spoke without thinking, “So, you’ve gone from lusting after me to being completely obsessed?”
Fu Huaizhou raised an eyebrow at the first half of her sentence. “What do you think I am?”
“A pervert,” Ruan Li replied, very seriously. “And one who’s been starved for a long time.”
Fu Huaizhou chuckled, shaking his head. “I don’t agree with the first part, but I do with the second.”
He studied the woman, half-kneeling on the bed, wearing nothing but a thin, red camisole. Her fair skin glowed against the light fabric, and her stunning face carried a look of innocent confusion. She embodied both purity and seduction to perfection.
Definitely an enchanting little vixen.
“So, can my image in your mind change?” Fu Huaizhou leaned closer, his breath warm on her neck.
“You like me?” Ruan Li asked again, still needing confirmation. After all, Fu Huaizhou was someone who only expressed a fraction of what he really felt.
“You still don’t know?” Fu Huaizhou was exasperated. “I might not know how others express love, but I would never let someone I don’t care about into my bed, raise a cat in my house, tolerate cat hair on my study’s carpet, or let myself be locked out of my own room. And I definitely wouldn’t do things I don’t understand for someone I don’t like.”
“Ruan Li, I’m not a charity.”
“I don’t do things without purpose. If it seems unbelievable to others, or like there’s no benefit to be gained, it’s because it’s something I truly want. Regardless of cost or reward. Do you understand now?”
Ruan Li was momentarily stunned by his long explanation it was the most she had ever heard him say.
She snuck a glance at his deep, calm eyes and realized he was serious.
“So… are you planning to go public with this?” she asked slowly.
Fu Huaizhou had already seen through her little tricks. Every time she tried to change the subject, he would catch her. He gripped her delicate chin, making sure they maintained eye contact.
“Don’t play dumb,” he said, raising an eyebrow, his gaze dark. “So tell me are we mutually in love, or is this one-sided?”
