After Breaking Off the Engagement, I Was Pampered By My Younger Uncle Chapter 83

Chapter 83: Who Said This is Your Child

Ruan Li was sitting on a lounge chair in the hospital room. Although her health was stable, and she didn’t need to stay in the hospital long-term, Shi Mu insisted, fearing that something might go wrong.

Of course, Shi Mu was equally concerned about Shi Xun’s health.

As a result, Shi Mu busied himself every day, constantly checking with the doctors in charge of both of them to make sure everything was fine.

“Third Brother is also at the hospital,” Shi Xun reminded the girl beside him quietly.

Ruan Li glanced at him, puzzled. “How do you know?”

“I saw him,” Shi Xun said, having roamed the hospital quite freely before his surgery. “Third Brother invested a lot of money in the hospital. Naturally, they wouldn’t refuse him, so he has a say here. Though, to be fair, our brother also invested quite a bit.”

Ruan Li felt a bit speechless. Did these people not treat money as money? The hospital board must be grinning from ear to ear, with two fools throwing money at them like there was no tomorrow, not even asking for anything in return, and even bringing their own experts.

“So, can you tell me what happened between you and Third Brother?” Shi Xun asked, clearly curious. The last time he saw them, they were practically inseparable. Back then, he thought Third Brother was like a miracle someone like him finally finding love.
t. It was unbelievable.

Ruan Li glanced at his eager expression and couldn’t help but find it amusing.

But now, wife and child had both left
“Nothing much,” she said, leaning closer to Shi Xun and teasing, “I just got tired of his ‘I do whatever I want’ attitude, where he never considered what others might think.”

She lowered her voice further, “Don’t you think seeing Fu Huaizhou all desperate and helpless is quite satisfying? It’s a rare sight.”

Shi Xun thought about it and had to agree. Third Brother had always been the most mature and composed among them, but now he was genuinely losing control.

The allure of love was indeed powerful, affecting even someone like Third Brother.

“You’re incredible,” he gave Ruan Li a thumbs-up, relieved to see there wasn’t an irreconcilable rift between them. If his little sister wanted to make Fu Huaizhou suffer a bit, he was happy to play along. Watching Third Brother struggle was quite entertaining.

As they chatted, one of Shi Xun’s doctors entered the room. “Mr. Shi, I’m here to conduct your examination.”

Ruan Li stepped aside and greeted him. “Dr. Chi.”

Chi Che nodded slightly.

He had clean cut features and a slender frame, and despite his young age, he was already renowned in the medical field. He had become a disciple of a globally famous cardiologist, and Shi Mu had gone through great lengths to bring him here.

After the examination, Chi Che packed up his equipment and was about to leave when he turned to Ruan Li.

“Miss Ruan, Mr. Shi asked me to remind you to take your medicine.”

Ruan Li’s face scrunched up at the mention of her medicine. She didn’t understand why both Shi Mu and Fu Huaizhou were so adamant about making her drink those bitter Chinese herbal concoctions. They kept saying it was good for her and the baby.

“I don’t want to. Can’t you just pretend you didn’t see me?” Ruan Li asked, her expression playful.

Chi Che’s lips curved slightly. “No, I can’t. Mr. Shi specifically asked me to find you.”

Reluctantly, Ruan Li got up, shooting a glare at Shi Xun, who was smirking at her predicament. She shook a playful fist in warning.

“Don’t you dare communicate with Fu Huaizhou, or I’ll tell Big Brother you’re a spy he planted.”

Shi Xun’s plaintive wail was the only response as she walked out.

Chi Che walked beside Ruan Li, carefully matching her pace. “I’m actually heading in the same direction.”

Ruan Li nodded and asked a few questions about Shi Xun’s condition. After all, compared to her situation, his was much more concerning.

To lighten the mood, Chi Che brought up a recent popular drama, Jingluan, in which Ruan Li played the ambitious second female lead.

“You watch period dramas?” Ruan Li asked, surprised. She had assumed someone as academically driven as Chi Che wouldn’t be interested in mainstream shows.

“Here in the country, Miss Ruan, your name is quite well-known. I’ve followed your news occasionally,” Chi Che said.

Ruan Li felt a bit embarrassed since her headlines were rarely positive.

As they continued their conversation, they rounded a corner, and Chi Che, ever cautious as a doctor, instinctively guided her to avoid any collisions.

Just then, a tall, sharp-featured man approached them.

“Careful,” Chi Che warned.

Ruan Li recognized the familiar scent of light sandalwood before she even looked up. She glanced up and found herself meeting Fu Huaizhou’s deep gaze.

“Just here to see you,” Fu Huaizhou said softly. Though he was at the hospital, Shi Mu had surrounded Ruan Li with so many people that it was difficult for him to get close. Today, he knew she’d be out, so he waited.

Ruan Li turned her head away, feeling a bit awkward. “You’ve seen me. Now, you can go.”

Hearing the stubbornness in her voice, a trace of bitterness flashed in Fu Huaizhou’s eyes. He moved to touch her dangling hand, but Chi Che stepped in, blocking him.

“Sir, please do not touch the patient,” Chi Che said calmly.

Fu Huaizhou’s eyes narrowed as he looked at the unfamiliar face. He had heard their conversation as he waited seemed like they were quite familiar.

“Who are you, and what business is it of yours?” Fu Huaizhou demanded coldly.

“I’m Miss Ruan’s doctor, so her well-being is my concern,” Chi Che replied without hesitation.

Ruan Li, startled by the unexpected confrontation, didn’t clarify that Chi Che was actually Shi Xun’s doctor. Seeing he was helping her out of an awkward situation, she decided not to correct him.

Fu Huaizhou ignored Chi Che, focusing on Ruan Li. His voice dropped as if declaring ownership.

“She is mine. Who do you think you are?” he said, his tone possessive. “She’s carrying my child, so of course, I have the right to see her.”

Chi Che remained unfazed. “Since her pregnancy, she has only had her two brothers by her side. As her doctor, I’m not aware of any partner.”

Fu Huaizhou shot a fierce look at Chi Che, clearly irritated. Then he softened his tone and addressed Ruan Li directly.

“Litchi, come here,” he coaxed, his gaze gentle and longing. “Let me see you and the child.”

But Ruan Li wasn’t one to be easily swayed. She watched him, finding his attitude treating her as if she belonged to him utterly infuriating.

She spoke, her voice steady and sharp.

“Who said this is your child?”
