Chapter 61: Nora’s Apology

Daisy held Nora tightly without letting go for a long time and said, “Thank heavens for that…”

Martina pushed the door open and hobbled in.

Her hair was in a complete mess.

Seeing that Nora had returned to normal, she said happily, “I knew you’d be fine.”

After a bit of small talk, Reiner asked, “How are your eyes? Still not able to see anything?”

“Mm…”

Martina frowned slightly and said, “Nora went blind?”

Reiner nodded and said, “One of her eyes can’t see, the left one.”

In his dream, Reiner had seen her pupil turn golden yellow, and he wondered if the two were related.

Unfortunately, they were in another world where medical standards were abysmal.

When someone fell ill, they were either bled or given enemas, which did nothing to heal and only caused unbearable suffering.

Otherwise, Reiner would have taken Nora straight to a hospital by now.

A crystal-clear Water Ball formed in Reiner’s hand as he said, “Let me try to heal your eye.”

Nora leaned in, exposing her blind left eye to the Water Ball’s healing.

After a moment, she lifted her head, looked around, and said, “My eye still can’t see anything.”

She waved her hand dismissively and said, “Oh well, it’s just one blind eye… at least I can still see.”

Reiner was momentarily at a loss for words.

Even so, he thought, she’s far too calm…

Daisy sighed and her thoughts drifted over: (What a silly girl… but at least she’s awake.)

She stroked Nora’s ears, then left the bedroom, leaving the three of them alone.

Nora looked at Martina’s injured knee and asked, “What happened to your knee?”

“I got hurt by skeletal knights, but I can walk now and it should be fine by tomorrow.”

Reiner marveled at Martina’s self-healing ability.

They say it takes a hundred days for tendons and bones to heal… she’s practically Wolverine.

Martina’s ears suddenly perked up as she remembered something and said, “I left my greatsword and armor back in the ruins… I haven’t even had my fill… I’m going work fir Reiner another decade or so.” Then she added, “By the way, Nora, I’ve decided…”

“Decided what?”

“I’m going to follow Reiner too, and I won’t leave anymore.”

Nora scratched the fur inside her ears, doubting she had heard correctly.

Martina had to patiently repeat herself.

“Why?”

Martina shrugged and said, “There’s nowhere else to go anyway, so I might as well stick with Reiner… he’s been good to me, at least I won’t starve or freeze.”

Nora rubbed her eyes and glanced at Reiner, who said nothing.

(I wonder what happened while I was unconscious… she was insisting she had to leave not long ago…)

She blurted out, “You want to be Reiner’s woman too?”

Reiner choked on his own saliva and started coughing.

Martina’s face flushed red as she said angrily, “Nora, what rubbish are you talking? Even though Reiner saved my life, he isn’t as capable as I am, so I won’t be his woman.”

(I actually asked that out loud… did I really have to ask this in front of Reiner? I’m dumber than him. I haven’t even checked if you’re okay! And even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t tell you that.)

Reiner sat down to watch the show.

Nora spoke again, “So you’re not looking for a man?”

Martina replied resolutely, “No, I don’t need a man… food and monster slaying are enough for me.”

(Reiner does give me different feelings, but that kind of thing can wait… only a man stronger than me can truly be a man.)

Reiner teased, “You’re bragging to Nora again… you might not even be as strong as me right now.”

Martina retorted stubbornly, “My leg is just injured, that’s all.”

“Even uninjured, you’d still be no match for me.”

Martina narrowed her eyes and after a moment said, “Once my leg heals, let’s have a duel… if you lose, you’ll be my slave for a few days. Dare you?”

“And if you lose?”

Martina said confidently, “I can’t lose… little Reiner, I could throw you out with one hand.”

“There’s always a chance.”

“I already said it… if you win, you can do whatever you want with me.”

“Oh really? Then get yourself clean and wait for me.”

Martina’s face turned beet red as she ground her teeth and snarled, “Pervert! Dirty! Just wait until I beat the shit out of you!”

Reiner flipped her off.

Just as their verbal sparring peaked, someone knocked on the door.

Daisy hurried into the bedroom and whispered, “Reiner, there are two unfamiliar people outside… should I open the door?”

Reiner stood up and went to open it.

He found the armorer’s craftsman holding a tape measure.

“Why is it you?”

“By Lord Dimas’s order, I’m here to take measurements for you and that equine demi-human, planning to make you both a finer set of fitted plate armor. I heard Lord Dimas even invited a Church nun to enchant the armor…”

“Will I need to pay?”

“Lord Dimas will cover it.”

Reiner quickly ushered him inside, “Please, come in!”

So this was the compensation Dimas mentioned yesterday.

That was fantastic.

The craftsman scratched his cheek and began measuring Reiner, then measured Martina.

The craftsman said admiringly, “I heard you stayed behind in the ruins to kill the undead so your team could retreat… my lord, you are truly brave. I swear I will forge the finest plate armor for you.”

Reiner was momentarily speechless.

How did this rumor get so twisted?

It made it sound like he volunteered.

Who would choose to stay in that darkness-filled ruin if they weren’t forced?

A few minutes later, once he had the measurements, he left the hut without looking back.

Martina asked excitedly, “Does that mean we’ll get new armor again?”

“I guess so.”

“Hooray!” Martina hopped on one leg.

Reiner stretched lazily and headed back to the bedroom.

He hadn’t slept well last night and planned to catch a bit more rest.

Upon entering, he saw Nora sitting on the edge of the bed, looking somewhat uneasy.

(I actually laid hands on Master yesterday. Even though I didn’t hurt him… that was too much.)

“How are your eyes?” Reiner asked.

Nora had experienced Spirit collapse at the time, and it wasn’t her fault.

“I still can’t see anything, but I feel fine,” Nora said as she slowly stood, closed the window, and drew the curtains.

Then she walked to the door and locked it as well.

Immediately after, she knelt on the bed with a thud.

“What’s all this about now?”

“I’m sorry I almost stabbed you with a dagger yesterday. I didn’t mean to.”

“I know that.”

Nora clenched the bedsheets and, fighting her shame, said, “I can’t forgive myself. Please, Master, punish me. Whatever it is, I will accept it willingly.”

Reiner narrowed his eyes and asked, “Really?”

Nora understood his hint and said eagerly, “I’ll go take a bath first. I didn’t wash yesterday, only changed my clothes.”

“It’s not too late to wash later.”

Reiner gave her a gentle push…
