Chapter 54: Searching for Clues in the Dead of Night
Banxia picked up her phone and dialed his number. The prompt that the phone was turned off came through, and she realized that he had switched to airplane mode.
She quickly got up and ran downstairs, almost tripping as she went out the door.
As Banxia rushed to the stairwell, Mrs. Zhou was just coming upstairs. “Madam, what’s wrong? What happened?”
Banxia stopped, holding onto the railing. She tried to calm down. “Do you know Mr. Mu’s phone number?” she asked with a smile. “I need to reach him.” Her breath was a little shaky from worry.
She didn’t want to worry Mrs. Zhou until she was sure what was going on.
Mrs. Zhou looked at her in confusion, took out her phone, and recited a number. Lin Banxia took out her phone and quickly wrote it down. “Thank you,” she said, then turned and went upstairs.
Back in the bedroom, she immediately dialed Mu Bo’s number.
“Hello, Ms. Lin.” Soon, Mu Bo’s calm and gentle voice came through. He had checked her information for Young Master Zhan, so he knew her number.
Lin Banxia, with a knot in her stomach, went straight to the point. “Mr. Mu, which flight did Mr. Zhan book? I just saw a news report about a plane crash, and it’s been forced to land. Some people are injured, and some are dead…”
Mu Bo had also just seen the news. Hearing her worry, he quickly said, “I saw the news too. Mr. Zhan’s flight wasn’t that one. I just checked the flight status, and it’s already landed safely in Canada. It flew through the storm zone.”
Her heart, which had been hanging high, finally settled.
Lin Banxia finally let out a sigh of relief. “…” She smiled. “Okay, thank you.” Then she hung up the phone.
Why was she so worried about him?
Junsheng Group, the simple and elegant president’s office.
Mu Bo held his phone for a long time. He turned and looked at the torrential rain outside the window, his lips curving into a charming smile.
It felt like their relationship was heating up. They were starting to care about each other.
How nice!
Yuzhu Villa, a bedroom.
Lin Banxia was wearing the dress Zhan Jingting had bought her, a pure white, very stylish dress.
The cute lace sleeves, the slight pleats on the chest, creating a slightly puffy look, and the high waistline treatment were very flattering.
It had a gentle and romantic feel. His taste was really good.
The rain was still falling outside. She sat down again on the sofa chair by the window, no longer feeling the tension and worry she had felt before.
She prayed for the safety of everyone on the crashed plane.
Listening to the rain, Banxia’s mind flashed with snippets of her time with him… Her thoughts drifted further and further away.
Banxia finished telling her children bedtime stories and coaxed them to sleep.
Now, she was wearing pajamas, lying in bed in her bedroom, drifting off to sleep. She had put a hot water bottle on her abdominal wound, and it felt warm and soothing, making the pain less intense.
The headlights shone in, and a black SUV pulled into the courtyard.
Butler Shen went out to greet them, and a few people got out of the car. They chatted for a bit and then walked towards the living room.
Soon, the door to Banxia’s bedroom was knocked. She woke up groggily, got up, and opened the door.
Mrs. Zhou stood outside, “Madam, Mr. Zhan’s people have found the servants who managed to escape the fire before your grandparents’ accident. There are five of them, and they are all downstairs in the living room now.”
Upon hearing this, Banxia’s pupils widened, her sleepiness vanished instantly. She turned around, grabbed a coat and put it on, and rushed out of the bedroom!
Thump thump thump!
She quickly appeared at the corner of the stairs, seeing the brightly lit living room with a dozen people standing there.
Her fingers, gripping the railing, couldn’t help but tighten, because five of those faces were familiar, faces she hadn’t seen in six years.
“Miss!”
The four maids and one male butler, upon seeing her, all looked excited, their voices choked with emotion.
They never thought they would have the chance to see each other again in this lifetime?
Banxia hurried downstairs, her eyes welling up. Mrs. Zhou protected her side, afraid that she might stumble on the stairs in her excitement.
The other four men in black suits in the living room were Zhan Jingting’s men. Upon seeing her, they all bowed respectfully, “Good evening, Madam.”
After descending the stairs, Banxia looked at them gratefully, “Thank you, you’ve all worked hard, still busy with your duties this late at night.”
“It’s our duty.” They were indeed well-trained.
Banxia quickly instructed Mrs. Zhou,”Quickly prepare some snacks and tea!”
“Yes, Madam.” Mrs. Zhou turned and went to work.
Banxia’s gaze fell on the servants she once knew, her heart filled with emotion. Thousands of words turned into one embrace after another.
Soon, the servants of Yuzhu Villa brought out fruit platters and served tea.
Zhan Jingting’s men didn’t stay long. The leader handed Banxia a file, “Madam, this is detailed information about them, their living conditions, and current addresses. We’ll wait in the car. You can reminisce, no rush, just let us know if you need anything.”
Since they brought them over in the middle of the night, they naturally had to send them back.
She reached out and took it, “Thank you.”
Banxia was very touched, because she knew Zhan Jingting’s rules. His men were efficient and never too casual.
Perhaps it was because they had been paid enough, they turned and left.
In the spacious living room, Lin Banxia motioned for those who stayed to take a seat.
The five servants were still in a state of shock. The young miss had… become Mrs. Zhan?
This was the luxurious Yuzhu Villa, where every inch was worth its weight in gold. The living room was tastefully decorated, and probably any single piece of furniture was worth a fortune. “Thank you for remembering me. These past years… how have you all been?” Banxia also sat down on the sofa, as if greeting long-lost relatives.
To her, they were truly like family.
Although they were sitting on the expensive sofa, they felt restrained. However, everyone’s eyes were filled with tears, and they nodded with emotion, signifying that they had been alright these past years. Living was the best thing.
“I’m so sorry…” Banxia said sincerely. “I didn’t know he had sent people to find you. It’s so late, and I brought you here. I’m sorry for interrupting your rest.”
“Miss, please don’t say that!” said the former housekeeper, the only man among the five.
The housekeeper’s eyelids were sore, and his emotions were hard to contain. “To see you alive and well… we are… truly happy.”
The fire that burned down the Lin family’s old mansion was a painful memory for everyone. Some had witnessed it firsthand, while others had read about it in the newspapers.
Banxia sat across from them, casually flipping through the documents that Zhan’s men had given her. She glanced through them quickly and gained a preliminary understanding of their current situation.
Slowly raising her gaze, she focused on a young maid who had been keeping her head down the whole time. She noticed that the young maid’s shoulders were trembling slightly, perhaps from nervousness?
Banxia stared at her for a long time… her beautiful eyes seemed devoid of warmth.
A brief silence descended upon the living room.
Following the young miss’s gaze, the other four also looked at her. Her name was Xiaoling.
After a while, Banxia came back to her senses. She smiled softly and called out, “Mrs. Zhou.”
“Madam.” Mrs. Zhou quickly came over.
Banxia stood up and whispered something to Mrs. Zhou. Mrs. Zhou nodded understandingly and then turned to leave and make preparations.
