Chapter 2: His Sister is the Best in the World
Luo Qi Qi quickly scanned the room with a glance, taking in the sparse furnishings.
This was the master’s room. Aside from the wooden bed she had just been lying on and the small wooden stool next to Luo Shi Tou, there was nothing else.
There wasn’t a single useful thing. What should she do?
Well, there was only one option—the wooden stool!
At the door stood the tall, muscular man, watching his partner kneeling on the ground, still howling in agony.
Before he could react, it was now or never. Luo Qi Qi quickly moved over to Luo Shi Tou’s side.
In one smooth motion, she grabbed the wooden stool and swung it at the tall man.
He collapsed instantly.
The motion was so forceful that Luo Qi Qi felt a slight dizziness in her head.
She steadied herself against the wall and bent down to untie the ropes binding Luo Shi Tou.
Together, the siblings bound the two men and tossed them into the corner.
The man who had been howling earlier now stopped his screaming, focusing on the pain in his hands.
“Please, ma’am, spare me… I was forced to do it…!” he pleaded.
Too noisy. Luo Qi Qi swiftly knocked him out.
With the immediate threats dealt with, Luo Qi Qi finally had a moment to process the flood of information swirling in her mind.
Just as she sat down, she saw Luo Shi Tou inching toward her, step by step.
Luo Qi Qi glanced up, and the child immediately stopped his movements, flashing a silly grin at her.
Two strands of snot hung from his nose, swaying in the breeze, and it was impossible to ignore them.
When Luo Shi Tou saw his sister staring at him, his smile grew even wider, his eyes practically sparkling with admiration.
His sister was so amazing! She was the best in the world!
Normally, he wouldn’t dare get too close to her, as he could always sense that she didn’t like him.
Despite his efforts to please her, she had never once smiled at him.
Their father told him not to take it to heart, that his sister still loved him deep down.
But he understood. His mother had died giving birth to him, and he didn’t blame his sister for that. He just wished she could be a little happier.
But today, his sister was different. When she took down the bad guys, she seemed to glow with a certain radiance that made people want to be near her.
“Come here,” Luo Qi Qi called to him.
“Huh?” he blinked, not understanding at first.
Luo Qi Qi couldn’t help but be amused by his confused expression but didn’t show it on her face.
The apocalypse had hardened her over the past three years; she had grown used to hiding her emotions and keeping a calm exterior.
She stood up and walked over to Luo Shi Tou, tearing off a piece of her sleeve and handing it to him.
“Clean your nose.”
Luo Shi Tou obediently took the cloth, then hesitantly wiped his face.
After a moment, he suddenly realized what he had done. His smile instantly faded as he looked down at the cloth.
Inwardly, he groaned, “Great, I’ve made my sister’s sleeve dirty…”
Luo Qi Qi was unaware of his inner turmoil; her mind was still a tangled mess.
One moment, she was recalling the betrayal from her previous life, and the next, she was overwhelmed with memories of her role as the master of this house.
Luo Shi Tou noticed his sister zoning out again, so he quietly slipped out of the room.
He decided it was best to wash the sleeve before his sister noticed.
As soon as he stepped outside, he saw Luo Lao San, tied up like a dead dog, and Luo Qiao Er, lifeless by his side.
A big question mark popped up in his small head, and he thought about going over to investigate.
But then he remembered how often his third uncle would boss him around when their father was in town, making him do this and that. Sometimes, he wouldn’t even let him eat.
He thought it over and decided it was better to wait for his father to return before dealing with it.
His father had been gone for a while now, and it was already afternoon. They hadn’t even had lunch, all because of those two…
Meanwhile, Luo Qi Qi had finally managed to clear her head and begin processing the overwhelming flood of information.
For her past life, Luo Qi Qi didn’t feel any attachment.
The original owner, Luo Qi Qi, had a solitary personality and wasn’t close to her family.
This actually worked in her favor. At least she didn’t have to worry about being discovered.
Now that she had come here, she was Luo Qi Qi, and she would live as Luo Qi Qi from this point forward.
Luo Qi Qi’s family had split a few years ago, leaving only a simple household.
Her mother had been in poor health and was always ill, constantly taking medicine. After her younger brother, Luo Shi Tou, was born, her mother passed away, which was why Luo Qi Qi didn’t care much for him.
To support the two of them, her father had to work in the town.
With his physical strength, he found work at the docks, unloading cargo, and life was barely manageable.
Above them, there were also grandparents.
According to the original owner’s memories, her grandfather usually didn’t interfere with family matters. However, Grandma Luo, a miser, would never give out a single copper coin to anyone.
Her eldest uncle’s family treated the two siblings well. They had one son and one daughter.
But her third uncle, Luo Lao San’s family, was lazy and greedy. They had two daughters and one son.
They often yelled at their daughters for the slightest things, while their son was treated like a little prince.
This morning, the entire family from the old house had already left with the last group of villagers, heading eastward, supposedly toward the capital.
Her eldest uncle’s family had also come to persuade Luo Lao Er (her father) to join them, so that they could look out for each other on the road.
But Luo Lao Er was stubborn.
Unable to convince him, Luo’s eldest uncle could only share some of the remaining coarse grain with them.
Because of Luo Qi Qi’s personality, she didn’t know much about the place she had lived for sixteen years. The furthest she had ever been was a small town ten miles away.
She only knew that the village where she lived was called Luo He Village because it was near the Luo River, and the town was called Linxiang Town. Anything beyond that was unknown.
As she thought about it, Luo Qi Qi couldn’t help but tap her forehead. It seemed that the only option now was to ask someone.
Luo Lao San, who had been shouting ever since he woke up, was the perfect candidate.
He had been yelling at Luo Shi Tou to hurry and untie him.
But Luo Shi Tou ignored him.
He needed to hurry and wash the clothes, then eat the pancakes his father had left for him and his sister on the stove earlier.
When Luo Lao San saw that Luo Shi Tou wasn’t responding, he began to curse.
In the end, Luo Shi Tou was so annoyed by the constant noise that he walked over, furrowed his brows, and shoved a piece of black cloth—he didn’t even know where it came from—into Luo Lao San’s mouth.
Finally, peace returned.
Luo Shi Tou clapped his hands in satisfaction and returned to scrubbing the sleeve he had dirtied.
When Luo Qi Qi walked over, Luo Lao San hurriedly gestured for her to untie him.
“Stupid girl, why aren’t you untying me? And that brat, I’ll beat him senseless when I get free. This is going too far!”
But Luo Qi Qi had no intention of untying him.
She simply crouched down in front of him.
“I have a few questions for you. If you answer well, I might consider untying you. If you don’t answer properly…”
She twirled the stick in her hand, smirking slightly, then gave him a glance.
“Well, I’ll have to loosen up your joints.”
Unable to move, Luo Lao San swallowed nervously and instinctively nodded.
When he locked eyes with Luo Qi Qi, he couldn’t help but shiver.
What was that look in her eyes?
It was deep and piercing—almost like she could see right through him.
This wasn’t the Luo Qi Qi he remembered!
Just one glance, and he was certain.
The Luo Qi Qi in his memory was always quiet, with her head lowered at all times.
Just a moment ago, she had been lying in bed half-dead, and her father had even gone to get medicine for her. He still hadn’t returned.
But this woman in front of him? She wasn’t the same!
Could it be that she was possessed by something?
The thought made him shiver, even in the middle of summer.
Luo Qi Qi didn’t care if he figured it out. She didn’t hide her presence at all, letting her intimidating aura fill the space.
After all, the past three years of the apocalypse had forged her into someone who had fought her way out of countless zombie hordes and rivers of blood. She was no longer someone like Luo Lao San, a coward who was afraid of dying.
