Chapter 4: Interruption
“Okay, I won’t bother you anymore. Remember to eat lunch on time and don’t overwork yourself,” Liu Yueyue said softly, her voice as warm and gentle as a spring breeze.
“I’m not tired. For you and the child, everything is worth it,” Hong Wenbin’s voice was filled with determination and seriousness, as if every word carried his deep love for his family.
The door wasn’t fully closed, leaving a gap. Xiao Miaomiao stood quietly outside, listening to their conversation clearly. In the year since they got married, she had never imagined that Hong Wenbin would cook, and now she finally understood that he wasn’t incapable, he just wasn’t willing to cook for her, Xiao Miaomiao.
An indescribable feeling surged through her heart, and the lunchbox in her hand seemed to become heavier. The carefully prepared food, originally an expression of her love and care, now felt so pale and powerless.
She laughed self-deprecatingly, a bitter taste rising in her heart. It seemed that in Hong Wenbin’s heart, she, Xiao Miaomiao, was always an outsider, unable to share his tenderness and care.
Fortunately, most of the food Liu Yueyue brought was cooked by her aunt, and she herself had only cooked a handful of times. Otherwise, she would probably regret it now, wouldn’t she? It would be like feeding a dog that couldn’t be raised.
Jiang Chen’s gaze inadvertently shifted to Zheng Yan beside him, and he discovered that his phone was recording.
“Okay, I got it. You get some rest, and I’ll come home later to deal with you, you little vixen,” Hong Wenbin’s voice held a playful laugh.
Listening to Hong Wenbin’s words to Liu Yueyue, Xiao Miaomiao felt a wave of nausea rise in her heart. This Hong Wenbin was truly a beast, not even sparing a pregnant woman.
Hong Wenbin had just put down his phone when Xiao Miaomiao pushed open the door. Her expression was cold and determined, as if carrying an undeniable force.
Hong Wenbin had just finished his call and gently placed his phone on the table. As he turned around, he saw Xiao Miaomiao pushing open the door.
A look of surprise flashed in his eyes, his brows furrowed slightly, and his tone held a hint of reproach: “Miaomiao, where are your manners? Don’t you know to knock before entering?”
He was completely unaware that the door was already half-open, and his conversation with Liu Yueyue had been heard word for word by Xiao Miaomiao.
Looking at him, Xiao Miaomiao curled her lips into a mocking smile, retorting: “Speaking of manners and upbringing, who can compare to you, Hong Wenbin?”
Her voice was calm and cold, but it carried an undeniable sharpness that rendered Hong Wenbin speechless.
Hong Wenbin’s brows furrowed slightly, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes. “Didn’t you say you were going out for a few days? Why are you back today, and why are you speaking so sarcastically? I’m quite busy lately, I won’t be going back, you go home yourself.” He felt a pang of annoyance, he had promised Yueyue that he would spend these few days with her, but now his plans were disrupted by these matters.
Just then, Jiang Chen walked in with Zheng Yan.
Hong Wenbin naturally recognized these two, and he could even say that he had been trying to curry favor with them. He immediately stood up, a flattering smile spreading across his face.
He could understand Jiang Chen’s arrival as a business meeting, but Zheng Yan’s appearance left him puzzled.
“Miaomiao, you go ahead and do your thing, I have distinguished guests to entertain.” He turned to the woman beside him, his tone carrying a hint of not allowing for any doubt or questioning.
“Mr. Jiang, it’s an honor to have you here, you arrived without prior notice, I should have personally greeted you downstairs.” Hong Wenbin looked at Jiang Chen and Zheng Yan, his face plastered with a smile, his tone filled with flattery.
However, when his gaze fell on Xiao Miaomiao, it slightly tightened. Seeing that Xiao Miaomiao was still standing there, not moving, he frowned and wanted to pull her out.
But before his hand touched Xiao Miaomiao’s sleeve, it was simultaneously stopped by Jiang Chen and Zheng Yan.
Cold light flickered in Jiang Chen’s eyes, his tone revealing an undeniable authority. He stared coldly at Hong Wenbin, saying word by word: “Hong Wenbin, you dare touch Miaomiao? You’re simply courting death!”
Zheng Yan also joined in, a mocking smile curling at the corner of his lips. He said lightly: “Mr. Hong, next time you call your little lover, remember to check if the windows and doors are closed, lest you be overheard and become a laughingstock. I heard your conversation with your mistress just now, clearly, and I even recorded it.”
Their words were like sharp daggers, piercing deeply into Hong Wenbin’s heart. His hands trembled slightly, and the wine glass he held in mid-air seemed to become heavy. He turned his head, looking at Jiang Chen and Zheng Yan, then at Xiao Miaomiao standing beside him, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes.
Hong Wenbin took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil within him. He squeezed out a strained smile, trying to ease the tension: “Did you misunderstand something?”
“Miaomiao, let me explain.” Hong Wenbin’s voice held a hint of urgency, he tried to reach out to grab Xiao Miaomiao’s hand, hoping she would give him a chance to explain.
However, Xiao Miaomiao gently dodged his hand, her eyes revealing a hint of coldness and distance.
Seeing this, Jiang Chen did not hesitate to stand in front of Xiao Miaomiao, coldly looking at Hong Wenbin, “Hong Wenbin, do you really think we’re all blind?” His voice carried a hint of mockery, clearly dissatisfied with Hong Wenbin’s actions.
Hong Wenbin looked at the two of them standing close together, a surge of inexplicable irritation rose in his heart. He frowned, trying to speak in a rational tone: “Mr. Jiang, this is a private matter between me and my wife, you, an outsider, don’t seem to be in a position to interfere.”
Hearing this, Jiang Chen couldn’t help but chuckle. He stared intently at Hong Wenbin, his voice revealing an undeniable firmness: “What if I insist on interfering?” His tone was filled with provocation and threat, as if telling Hong Wenbin that he wasn’t so easy to deal with.
“What do you mean?” Hong Wenbin’s eyes were filled with shock and confusion, he stared straight at Xiao Miaomiao, his voice revealing an undisguised disappointment and anger.
“Why are you so protective of Xiao Miaomiao? What kind of relationship do you have?” His voice revealed a sense of betrayal and humiliation.
In Hong Wenbin’s understanding, Xiao Miaomiao had no connection with the Jiang family, let alone any deep ties. He never imagined that Xiao Miaomiao would be involved with the Jiang family.
His heart was filled with confusion and anger, the feeling of being deceived made it almost impossible for him to control his emotions.
“Xiao Miaomiao, you betrayed me!” Hong Wenbin’s voice was filled with grief and disbelief, unable to believe the truth before him.
