Chapter 47 Along the Way
As Zhang Jie paid the bill and walked out, he saw Zheng Yan about to help Xiao Miaomiao fix her hair. He called out, “Sister-in-law.”
Xiao Miaomiao turned around and saw Zhang Jie standing at the entrance of the restaurant. “Zhang Jie? You’re eating here too?” Xiao Miaomiao asked happily.
“Yeah, I came here with my colleagues. Are you going home, Sister-in-law? I’ll take you back, I’m going that way anyway.” Zhang Jie walked over enthusiastically.
“Mr. Jiang, Lawyer Zheng.” Zhang Jie greeted them with a polite smile. He was familiar with all of them, especially Jiang Chen, with whom he had a special past.
Because of the previous conflict between the Li family and the Jiang family, Zhang Jie had clashed with Jiang Chen, even getting into a fight. But now things were different. The relationship between the Jiang family and the Li family had gradually eased, and after Xiao Miaomiao married Li Jingcheng, the conflict between the two families seemed to have been resolved.
“Zhang Jie, you’re here too.” Jiang Chen looked at him in surprise, not expecting such a coincidence.
Zhang Jie nodded with a smile. He secretly sighed at the changes of life. The two families, who were once at odds, had now changed their attitude because of Xiao Miaomiao.
After Xiao Miaomiao married into the Li family, she became the bridge between the two families, and their relationship improved. Zhou Yi said that the two families had started to cooperate.
Zhang Jie and Jiang Chen looked at each other, a hint of complex emotions flashed in their eyes, but it was quickly concealed. Despite the unpleasantness in the past, everyone chose to let go of their prejudices at this moment, after all, Xiao Miaomiao was here.
Xiao Miaomiao thought that she and Zhang Jie were both from the same compound, and the direction to the Jiang family was opposite, so she didn’t need to trouble her cousin to send her back.
So, she turned to Jiang Chen and said, “Cousin, I’ll just go back with Brother Zhang, that way you won’t have to take a detour to send me back.”
Jiang Chen nodded in agreement. He looked at Zhang Jie and said with a smile, “Then I’ll trouble you to send Miaomiao back, Zhang Jie.”
Zhang Jie quickly waved his hand, saying, “No trouble, she’s Jingcheng’s wife, my sister-in-law, it’s only right to help take care of her.” As he spoke, he glanced at Zheng Yan, a hint of warning in his eyes.
Zheng Yan felt Zhang Jie’s gaze and saw the warning in his eyes, he looked back directly.
At this time, Xiao Miaomiao said to Jiang Chen, “Cousin, don’t worry, I’ll be careful. I’ll definitely send you a message when I get home to let you know I’m safe.” After saying that, she took out her phone to scan the code to pay for the hairpins.
Then, she took out two plum blossom hairpins and handed them to Jiang Chen, saying, “Cousin, these plum blossom hairpins are for Aunt, please help me take them back and give them to Aunt.”
Jiang Chen took the plum blossom hairpins and nodded with a smile.
“Although they’re not as good as those big-brand hairpins, they’re handmade, they’re very beautiful, Aunt should like them.” Xiao Miaomiao said happily.
“Even if you gave her a twig, my mom would wear it on her head.” Jiang Chen looked at the hairpins in his hand, they were indeed quite nice.
“That’s because Aunt loves me.” Xiao Miaomiao laughed after hearing that, “Then I’ll go first, goodbye.”
Jiang Chen took the change from Zheng Yan and put it in Xiao Miaomiao’s backpack, “Buy some candy for yourself.”
Xiao Miaomiao couldn’t help but laugh. She was about to say why she paid in cash, but it turned out it was for her pocket money.
“Cousin, I’m not a kid anymore, I can use my phone now.” Xiao Miaomiao remembered when she was younger, her cousin would always take money to buy things, and the rest would be put in her pocket, saying it was for her to buy candy. She didn’t expect that he still had this habit.
“In my eyes, you’ve always been a kid, only kids would say they’re not a kid.” Jiang Chen ruffled her hair and urged, “Go now, Zhang Jie has driven over.”
Jiang Chen opened the car door and looked at Xiao Miaomiao with a gentle smile, “Remember to send me a message when you get home.” Xiao Miaomiao smiled slightly and softly replied, “Okay.” Her sweet smile was like a flower blooming in the spring, intoxicating.
At this time, Xiao Miaomiao suddenly remembered that she had promised to paint a portrait for Jiang Chen and Brother Zheng, so she quickly said, “By the way, Cousin, Brother Zheng, I’ll give you your paintings when I finish them.” Jiang Chen nodded with a smile, “Okay, we’re not in a hurry, you can take your time.”
Then, Jiang Chen told Zhang Jie, “Drive slowly on your way back.” Zhang Jie secretly muttered to himself, this was the first time he had seen Jiang Chen be so fussy, but he still nodded and said he understood.
After Zhang Jie and Xiao Miaomiao got in the car and left, Jiang Chen turned and left. Along the way, Zhang Jie kept stealing glances at Xiao Miaomiao. Finally, he couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Sister-in-law, you seem to be quite familiar with Lawyer Zheng?”
Xiao Miaomiao shook her head in confusion, “No, he’s just my cousin’s friend, I just treat him like a brother. The reason I invited him to dinner was to thank him for helping me deal with the divorce and property division with Hong Wenbin.”
After saying that, she continued to play with the hairpin in her hand, a satisfied smile on her face, showing that she really liked the hairpin.
“He treats me well because my cousin helped him.” Xiao Miaomiao had heard a little about her cousin’s help to Zheng Yan, but their relationship was indeed very good, it could be said that they were mutually beneficial and win-win.
“They’ve known each other since junior high school, from junior high school, high school, and after graduating from college, I would also celebrate with him when I went to celebrate for my cousin. Because of his close relationship with my cousin, he naturally treats me like a sister.” Xiao Miaomiao turned to look at Zhang Jie, explaining in detail.
Zhang Jie never imagined that they had known each other for so long, which explained why Zheng Yan was so special to Xiao Miaomiao.
Obviously, Zheng Yan truly liked Xiao Miaomiao, the kind of emotion between a man and a woman was evident, but Xiao Miaomiao was completely oblivious.
Zheng Yan hadn’t explicitly confessed, and Xiao Miaomiao was unaware of it, so Zhang Jie wouldn’t be the one to point it out.
After all, when faced with someone you deeply love and someone who deeply loves you, most people might choose the latter.
Zhang Jie sent Xiao Miaomiao to the Li family and didn’t go back directly. He went to see Li Jingcheng and told him about Zheng Yan’s liking for Xiao Miaomiao.
“Zheng Yan is a good friend of Jiang Chen, their relationship is not ordinary. If Zheng Yan had proposed before, Jiang Chen would definitely have agreed to Sister-in-law marrying Zheng Yan.”
“Now Sister-in-law is married to you, but if you don’t wake up soon, if Zheng Yan wants to, it’s not impossible for him to pursue Sister-in-law. Jingcheng, you should wake up soon, otherwise your wife might really be poached, and your brother-in-law will even help.” Zhang Jie said, looking at Li Jingcheng lying on the bed.
