Chapter 65: Anticipation
“Okay, I’m looking forward to it! I come here to exercise every day, and I’ll be here around the same time tomorrow. I’ll be waiting for you here then.” Mr. Li readily agreed, his face beaming with joy.
He rarely encountered such a congenial younger generation, especially someone who shared his interest in drinking tea.
“Speaking of which, you’re quite similar to that young man from the Li family. He also loves drinking tea. I once tasted the tea he brewed, and it was truly exceptional. Not only was the tea leaf of the highest quality, but his brewing skills were also very proficient.” Mr. Li shared enthusiastically.
“Really? I didn’t know about this before.” Xiao Miaomiao was a little surprised but then expressed a keen interest.
Then, the two happily chatted over tea, listening to the idle chatter of the old ladies around them.
One of the old ladies mentioned, “Last night late, I heard Liu Hong’s mother yelling at her daughter-in-law, calling her a ‘disaster’ and blaming her for bringing trouble to the family.”
This old lady happened to live next door to the Liu family and knew quite a bit about their situation.
“And yesterday late at night, they even sent the daughter-in-law to the hospital. It must have been the Liu family who angered her. It all boils down to Liu Hong being irresponsible.”
“They say men are afraid of choosing the wrong profession, and women are afraid of marrying the wrong man. It’s so true! When Zhang Shuya married in, she was a proud young lady, but now she’s been bullied into a pitiful state. Her family doesn’t even come to help her get justice.”
“You don’t know the whole story. Zhang Shuya’s family situation is complicated. Her father is hospitalized, and the medical expenses are all paid by the Liu family. Her younger brother is still studying, and he’s said to be going abroad for further studies. All these expenses are covered by the Liu family. Now Zhang Shuya has no job and can only rely on the Liu family for support. How dare she cause trouble for them?”
“So, no one can stand up for her. She can only be strong on her own, otherwise, she’ll end up with nothing in the end.”
“I heard she’s already been to the hospital. Is she going to do like those women in TV dramas, crying, making a fuss, and trying to hang herself? If that’s the case, the Liu family will have a lot of drama to deal with. The previous wives were all easy to get rid of, but this time, Liu Hong probably can’t easily get a divorce.”
Mr. Li saw Xiao Miaomiao listening intently and couldn’t help but chuckle. He secretly sighed to himself: I thought she was a well-behaved little girl, but she’s actually quite curious.
He shook his head with a smile and turned to the group, saying, “Alright, stop guessing. They won’t get a divorce. I saw it when I was at their wedding. They have a strong bond, a connection that can’t be broken.”
Then, he looked at Xiao Miaomiao, a hint of teasing in his eyes.
Hearing this, everyone was shocked and expressed disbelief.
One of them asked in confusion, “No way? Does Zhang Shuya have some kind of background? Liu Hong’s mother values family background the most. She’s always wanted them to divorce and then find a wife with a matching background for Liu Hong. As for that actress they’ve been talking about recently, she doesn’t even care about her.”
Another person agreed, “Yeah, I also think Liu Hong should get a divorce. After all, Zhang Shuya has no background or support. She can’t stop Liu Hong who is determined to divorce.”
The old lady also nodded in agreement and further analyzed, “Yes, that makes sense. But, Old Li, did you see wrong? They really seem like they’re going to get a divorce now. It probably won’t last long, maybe a month at most, and the marriage will definitely be over.”
After hearing this, everyone else also expressed their agreement.
For a while, the room was filled with discussions, and everyone had their own opinions, trying to analyze the direction of this marriage.
“Yeah, they’re definitely going to get a divorce. It won’t last. Old Li, you must have seen wrong.” Everyone agreed, thinking that Mr. Li had made a mistake.
Mr. Li, however, didn’t get angry. He just smiled slightly. He believed that facts would prove everything. When the truth came to light, these people would naturally understand that he hadn’t made a mistake.
Xiao Miaomiao couldn’t help but feel a little confused. She thought Mr. Li seemed very wise and wouldn’t be wrong. Could it be that Mr. Li was telling the truth? This thought made her feel a little complicated.
Just then, Xiao Miaomiao’s phone suddenly rang. She looked down and saw that it was her mother-in-law calling. She quickly answered the phone, “Hello, Mom.”
On the other end of the phone, she heard Ouyang Xuan’s gentle voice, “Miaomiao, are you coming back from your run soon? Breakfast is ready. Come back quickly and eat.”
Ouyang Xuan learned that Xiao Miaomiao had gone out for a run on an empty stomach and was worried that she would be hungry, so she quickly called to urge her to come home for breakfast.
Xiao Miaomiao glanced at the time and realized it was almost eight o’clock. She quickly replied, “Okay, I’m going back now. It’s not far from home.”
Ouyang Xuan heard her reply and felt relieved. She instructed, “Okay, come back and eat breakfast first.” Then she hung up the phone.
Xiao Miaomiao originally planned to go home at 7:30, but she got caught up in chatting with the grandparents and completely lost track of time.
It wasn’t until her mother-in-law called that she realized it was getting late and quickly got up to say goodbye, “Grandpa, Grandma, I have to go back to eat breakfast. We’ll continue chatting another day.” She waved goodbye to them as she spoke.
The grandparents heard someone calling Xiao Miaomiao home for breakfast and didn’t try to keep her.
However, some kind old ladies knew she hadn’t had breakfast yet, so they took out some snacks from their pockets and gave them to her.
They said with concern, “Eat something to fill your stomach first. Here are some chocolates and candies. Remember to eat breakfast on time. It’s good for your health.”
Xiao Miaomiao gratefully accepted the food and smiled in thanks, “Okay, thank you, Grandma.” However, when she only took two pieces of chocolate, the old ladies thought it wasn’t enough and stuffed more chocolates and candies into her hand.
One old lady smiled and said to her, “Only you, little girl, are willing to listen to us old folks chat. Come back tomorrow, and we’ll tell you other interesting gossip stories.”
Xiao Miaomiao nodded repeatedly in agreement, “Okay, Grandma.” She looked at the food in her hand, feeling both warm and amused.
Zhang Jie ran back and saw Xiao Miaomiao surrounded by the old people in the courtyard, being given food. He was surprised. He knew these people were no ordinary figures.
Their identities and backgrounds were not simple, and their tempers were also very eccentric. They rarely interacted with people easily.
However, now they were surrounding Xiao Miaomiao and giving her candy. This was truly unexpected.
