Chapter 67: Amazing
“You really can’t judge a book by its cover,” Xiao Miaomiao sighed. If Zhang Jie hadn’t told her, she wouldn’t have known those old men were so amazing.
On her way back, Xiao Miaomiao saw Xiao Zhao sitting on a bench, his expression gloomy, looking sad and helpless.
Xiao Zhao saw Xiao Miaomiao, who had been smiling brightly, now her smile fading at the sight of him. His heart ached.
Could it be that he was someone she no longer wanted to see? Thinking this, Xiao Zhao slowly stood up, his eyes fixed on Xiao Miaomiao.
But Xiao Miaomiao simply ignored him, turning around without hesitation, as if his presence meant nothing to her.
This made Xiao Zhao feel very lost and also a little strange.
He had never seen Xiao Miaomiao like this, different from the one who used to want to get close to him. The Xiao Miaomiao now seemed cold and distant, making it hard to approach her.
Xiao Miaomiao thought to herself, it’s rare to see him like this. Compared to the arrogant and accusing person he was before, he’s actually changed a bit.
“Miaomiao,” Xiao Zhao saw her leaving directly and hurried to catch up, wanting to grab her.
However, Zhang Jie stepped in front of him, preventing Xiao Zhao from touching Xiao Miaomiao. Zhang Jie looked at Xiao Zhao coldly and said, “She doesn’t want to talk to you.”
These words were like a sharp sword, piercing deeply into Xiao Zhao’s heart. He silently watched Xiao Miaomiao’s back, his heart filled with endless regret and self-blame.
“I’m her brother,” Xiao Zhao, though feeling a little guilty towards Xiao Miaomiao, still spoke to Zhang Jie standing in front of him without any courtesy.
“She doesn’t acknowledge you, so you’re not,” Zhang Jie said expressionlessly, his tone firm, showing no intention of backing down. Hearing this, Xiao Miaomiao slightly raised the corner of her lips, a sarcastic smile appearing.
Tilting her head, she looked at Xiao Zhao with sharp eyes, mockingly saying, “Cruel, ignorant, disrespectful, and selfish, I’m not worthy of being your sister. Xiao Yuyan is your sister, didn’t you say that yourself?”
Her voice was full of mockery and provocation, like a blade piercing Xiao Zhao’s heart.
However, Xiao Zhao wasn’t angered by her words. Instead, he quietly looked at her, his eyes flickering with complex emotions.
He spoke slowly, his voice low and firm, “Why are you suddenly calling me brother now? You actually want to acknowledge me, a cruel and selfish person, as your sister. Aren’t you afraid of losing face?”
His eyes revealed a hint of helplessness and pain, as if he was disappointed and heartbroken by Xiao Miaomiao’s attitude.
Xiao Miaomiao sneered, mockingly looking at him and laughing, “Xiao Zhao, I don’t care if you come with force or with flattery. I won’t be involved in the Xiao family’s affairs. Even if Xiao Lin died in front of me, I wouldn’t even take a look. If you’re here because they asked you to make me call Uncle Jiang and give up the authority of the Xiao Group, don’t even think about it. I won’t agree.”
Her voice was cold and resolute, showing her indifference and decisiveness towards the Xiao family’s affairs.
Xiao Zhao remained silent for a moment, then took a deep breath, looking at Xiao Miaomiao again, a hint of determination flashing in his eyes.
Xiao Zhao looked at Xiao Miaomiao with a firm expression, seriously saying, “Miaomiao, can we talk properly?”
However, Xiao Miaomiao shook her head without hesitation, her tone cold as she replied, “There’s nothing to talk about!”
Then, she continued with a hint of sarcasm, “Also, don’t call yourself brother. I don’t lack brothers. I have two brothers who have protected me since I was little. What are you?”
She gently stroked Ah Huang, as if confiding in it.
Xiao Miaomiao remembered her conversation with Xiao Yuyan, and a surge of anger rose within her. She said to Xiao Zhao, “Tell your good sister, don’t think that by getting you on her side, she can lord it over me.
She should save her energy. It’s not like I don’t have brothers. My two real brothers, either one of them is much stronger than you, a blind and foolish brother.”
As she spoke, she stroked Ah Huang again, her eyes filled with confidence and pride.
Finally, Xiao Miaomiao raised her head, staring straight at Xiao Zhao, saying word by word, “Xiao Zhao, you once said you wouldn’t acknowledge me as your sister anymore, and I took you seriously. So, I won’t need a brother like you anymore.”
Her voice was firm and decisive, causing Xiao Zhao to involuntarily take a step back, his face showing an expression of disbelief.
“There’s nothing to talk about between us. You wouldn’t believe me anyway, would you? Between me and Xiao Yuyan, you’ve never listened to my explanation. You always think it’s my fault, that I hurt her. In your eyes, she’s a beautiful and kind sister, while I’m a vicious villain.”
“But I don’t care if you believe me or not. Whatever. But don’t come to me and say those disgusting things. Stay away from me, or I’ll let my dog bite you. And don’t appear in front of me again. I don’t want to see you.”
Seeing his sad and hurt expression, Xiao Miaomiao mocked herself, as if expecting him to feel sorry for her.
Xiao Miaomiao ignored him and left directly. She really didn’t want to have anything to do with this man anymore. Zhang Jie watched Xiao Miaomiao’s departing figure, his heart filled with helplessness.
After Xiao Miaomiao left, Zhang Jie looked at Xiao Zhao, a hint of displeasure flashing in his eyes, “Some hurt cannot be erased by a simple apology. Moreover, how much sincerity do you have? You still want to question my sister-in-law. You’re not here to apologize, are you?”
Xiao Zhao was speechless by Zhang Jie’s words. He was already doubting whether he had been right or wrong.
“If you want to know the truth, you can go to the Jiang family. Of course, that’s if the Jiang family is willing to pay any attention to you, a heartless person,” Zhang Jie said coldly.
“Don’t you have any love for your own mother? You can actually get along so well with your stepmother and her family. If your mother knew you were so good to your stepmother and her family, that you hurt your own sister, wouldn’t she die with a grudge?”
Zhang Jie’s lips curled into a cold smile as he leaned closer to him.
Seeing his red eyes, Zhang Jie found it very amusing.
At this moment, Xiao Miaomiao and Ah Huang were standing in the distance, waiting for Zhang Jie. Xiao Miaomiao’s mood seemed a little low. She gently rubbed Ah Huang’s fur, muttering to herself, “Calling him a dog is an insult to dogs.”
Hearing this, Zhang Jie walked over to them and comforted her, “Then ignore him. He’ll regret it. Let him experience the pain of not being acknowledged.”
Xiao Miaomiao nodded in agreement. She said, “Of course, I won’t pay any attention to him. Next time I see him, I’ll just walk away.”
After saying that, Xiao Miaomiao stood up, glanced at Zhang Jie, and then said to him, “Okay, you take Ah Huang back. I’ll go back to have breakfast.”
Zhang Jie nodded in response, “Okay.”
Xiao Miaomiao’s phone rang. It was her university class monitor calling. Why was he calling out of the blue?
