Chapter 70: Mocking
Jiang Lin watched his grandfather enter the house, a slight smirk playing on his lips, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes.
He turned his gaze to Xiao Zhao, who was kneeling on the ground, and said in a cold voice, “Let’s go, Master Xiao. Our Jiang family doesn’t welcome you.”
Turning to Butler Zhou, he instructed, “Uncle Zhou, see him out.”
Butler Zhou nodded respectfully and stepped forward, gesturing to Xiao Zhao with a polite hand, “Master Xiao, please leave.”
Xiao Zhao stood up silently, his eyes filled with endless disappointment and pain.
He took one last, deep look at Jiang Lin, grabbed the documents, and turned to leave. His steps were heavy, as if he were carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Jiang Lin watched Xiao Zhao’s retreating figure, a cold smile spreading across his face.
He thought to himself, “Xiao Zhao, this is just the beginning. You will face more pain. My Jiang family’s little princess is not someone you can bully!”
As this thought crossed his mind, Jiang Lin’s eyes grew colder and more ruthless.
Butler Zhou, witnessed everything and couldn’t help but feel sorry for Xiao Zhao.
However, he also understood that it was all Xiao Zhao’s own doing.
He had watched the little miss grow up, such a good little girl. Why didn’t Master Xiao like her? Even if he didn’t like her, he shouldn’t have hurt her. After all, she was the child his mother had given birth to with all her strength, the one who had been by his side.
As Xiao Zhao left, Jiang Lin scoffed, muttering to himself, “Seeing him right after I come back, what bad luck!” His words were filled with disgust and contempt for Xiao Zhao.
Xiao Zhao heard Jiang Lin’s words and his body trembled, stopping in his tracks. A flicker of pain crossed his eyes, but it quickly subsided, replaced by a calm facade.
“What, did I say something wrong? Master Xiao, wasn’t that what you said to Miaomiao before? You said that she wouldn’t have peace if she returned to the Xiao family, that you hoped she would never go back.” Jiang Lin felt a surge of joy at the sight of Xiao Zhao’s pain.
Xiao Zhao’s face turned pale, his lips trembling slightly. He wanted to retort, but found himself speechless. Because Jiang Lin was speaking the truth. He had indeed said those hurtful things to Miaomiao.
Jiang Lin sneered, continuing, “Now, Miaomiao won’t recognize you as her brother anymore. Are you satisfied?”
“Xiao Zhao, I’m telling you clearly, Miaomiao returned to the Xiao family because she had a glimmer of hope for you, her brother. However, you’ve come alone, which means Miaomiao will never forgive you.”
“Listen carefully, you can never repay what you owe Miaomiao, and you will never have another chance to make amends. That’s it. You can only spend the rest of your life in regret.” Jiang Lin rested his hand lightly on the railing, looking down at Xiao Zhao from a superior position, his voice cold.
“What do you mean by that?” Xiao Zhao raised his head, his eyes fixed on Jiang Lin, a mixture of confusion and unease. “What do you mean I owe Xiao Miaomiao? What exactly do I owe her?” Xiao Zhao felt that if he didn’t understand this, he would regret it for the rest of his life.
Jiang Lin’s lips curled into a smirk, “You’ll find out in due time.”
He wasn’t planning on revealing the truth to Xiao Zhao right now. He wanted to wait until the right moment, when Xiao Zhao was at his most vulnerable and miserable, to deliver the fatal blow, plunging him into endless regret, making him live in regret for the rest of his life. After all, he owed Miaomiao and dared to hurt her.
Jiang Lin ignored him and turned to go upstairs.
Xiao Zhao knew that he was determined to ignore him, so he could only leave dejectedly.
Butler Zhou, watched Xiao Zhao’s retreating figure and couldn’t help but shake his head. “She’s your own sister, your mother’s closest relative. How could you treat her like that? Even if you don’t like her, don’t love her, you shouldn’t hurt her so cruelly. After all, she’s the child your mother gave birth to with all her strength, the one who was by your side.”
Xiao Zhao remained silent, filled with remorse and self-blame.
He couldn’t face the Jiang family, especially after learning that they knew about his attempt to strangle Xiao Miaomiao. He was speechless.
He couldn’t help but feel guilty when he remembered Xiao Miaomiao’s hopeful gaze towards him.
It turned out that the Jiang family hadn’t told Xiao Miaomiao about the incident, which gave him a slight sense of relief, but also made him feel even more ashamed and uneasy.
If Xiao Miaomiao knew that he had tried to strangle her, she wouldn’t have wanted to return to the Xiao family in the first place. Xiao Zhao thought about how he had forced her to make a marriage alliance to save the Xiao family, and he felt ridiculous. The Xiao family had never given her anything, so why should Miaomiao sacrifice herself to save the Xiao family?
And if he hadn’t listened to Yu Yan and asked Xiao Miaomiao to let the Xiao family go, would he still be in the dark?
Xiao Zhao got into the car and leaned back in the seat.
He looked at the photos hanging on the wall. In every photo, Xiao Miaomiao’s smile was so bright, a genuine smile, showing how much the Jiang family loved her.
Xiao Zhao clenched his fist, took the medicine from the car and swallowed it, his head throbbing.
Looking at the information in the documents, Xiao Zhao felt like he had been living a lie all these years, while Xiao Miaomiao had known the truth since she was ten and had had to endure the disgust of the Xiao family.
They weren’t wrong. He was truly unworthy of being Xiao Miaomiao’s brother. He had caused Miaomiao’s premature birth and his mother’s weak health and early death. He was a murderer.
Thinking about how he had respected Lin Yunshuang all these years, Xiao Zhao wished he could kill himself. What had he done?
He had been so easily swayed by those small favors. After his mother’s death, he had quickly accepted Lin Yunshuang as his stepmother.
She must have been trying to ruin him.
He had been so blind to it all.
