Standing at the base of the towering apartment building, Qiao Shan clenched her fists, her face twisted in unwilling resentment as she stared up at the floor where Lin Huaiyu resided.
Alone together, a man and a woman—ex-husband and ex-wife. What if they rekindled their old feelings? What if something happened between them? She couldn’t afford to take that gamble.
Then, as if struck by sudden inspiration, a calculating glint flashed in her eyes. She pulled out her phone and swiftly sent a message.
Less than twenty minutes later, a sleek black sedan came to a screeching halt in front of the apartment complex.
Fu Wenbo practically leaped out of the car, his expression taut with urgency. He glanced up at the building before striding inside with purpose.
The message Qiao Shan had sent had been to him.
She had fed him a fabricated tale—telling him that Lin Huaiyu had abducted Su Weichu and taken her to his private apartment, intending to do unspeakable things to her.
Bursting into the apartment, Fu Wenbo was met with a startling scene.
Lin Huaiyu and a man he didn’t recognize stood over Su Weichu’s unconscious form. One of them held a syringe, the other a scalpel.
“Stop!”
Fu Wenbo’s furious roar shattered the tense atmosphere. He lunged forward, shoving both men aside and placing himself protectively in front of Su Weichu.
His sharp eyes burned with rage as he glared at Lin Huaiyu. “What the hell are you trying to do to her?”
Lin Huaiyu’s brows furrowed. “Why are you here?”
Few people knew about this apartment. Fu Wenbo’s sudden appearance was deeply suspicious.
Fu Wenbo let out a cold laugh. “If I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have known just how despicable you really are. Taking advantage of her illness to do God knows what? Lin Huaiyu, I swear—once she wakes up, I’ll tell her everything. Let her see you for who you truly are.”
With that, he turned and scooped Su Weichu into his arms, fully intent on taking her away.
Lin Huaiyu stepped in his path. “Put her down.”
“Not a chance.”
Fu Wenbo dodged Lin Huaiyu’s grasp and, without warning, launched a furious kick at him.
And just like that, the two men were locked in a vicious struggle, exchanging blows in a battle of sheer will.
Jiang Haojin, the other man in the room, watched in exasperation. Su Weichu’s condition was worsening before his eyes. He finally lost his patience and snapped, “Enough! If you two want to fight, take it outside. But Su Weichu cannot afford this. Her condition is already critical!”
His sharp reprimand cut through their fury.
Both men turned their attention to Su Weichu—her face was pale, her breathing labored.
Fu Bowen seethed. “Lin Huaiyu, step aside! Or do you want to kill her, too, after everything else you’ve done?”
Before Lin Huaiyu could respond, Jiang Haojin took control. He strode forward, plucked Su Weichu from Fu Wenbo’s arms, and declared, “I’m a doctor. She stays with me. You two can either fight outside or shut up—but don’t interfere with her treatment.”
A tense silence settled.
Neither man dared to act recklessly anymore.
For the next three days, they remained in the apartment.
Su Weichu wanted to leave, but her mysterious illness left her too weak to even get out of bed.
And in those three days, she made a fascinating discovery—
It wasn’t just three women who could stir up drama. Two men were more than capable of creating absolute chaos.
So the moment she regained some strength, she didn’t hesitate for a second. She fled the apartment, leaving the two of them to their ridiculous quarrels.
Sitting in the backseat of a cab, she pulled out her phone. Countless messages flooded her screen.
Most of them were from Yi Qingyun, updating her on the company’s affairs.
As she skimmed through the texts, she suddenly noticed something strange.
A sharp glint flashed in her eyes.
“Su Hetong… how dare you?”
Her fingers tightened around the phone, her grip trembling with barely contained fury.
Just then, the driver’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
“Miss, we’ve arrived at Su Group.”
Forcing herself to rein in her emotions, Su Weichu took a deep breath, paid the fare, and stepped out of the car.
But the moment her feet hit the pavement, a horde of reporters surged forward.
“Miss Su, you’ve finally appeared! Can you tell us where you’ve been for the past few days?”
“Is it true that you disappeared because you couldn’t face the company’s shareholders after driving your grandfather into the hospital?”
“If that’s the case, why have you returned now?”
“Miss Su, rumors say you deliberately harmed your grandfather in a bid to seize control of the company. Do you deny this?”
Microphones were thrust toward her, nearly hitting her in the face.
Before she could respond, Yi Qingyun arrived with security, swiftly pulling her away from the aggressive crowd.
“President Su, are you alright?” Yi Qingyun asked, scanning her for any injuries.
Su Weichu waved a hand dismissively before turning her gaze back to the eager reporters.
A slow, cunning smile curved her lips.
“Qingyun, invite them to the conference room.”
Yi Qingyun blinked. “You want to…?”
“They worked so hard to spread these ridiculous accusations. It would be rude of me not to cooperate, don’t you think?”
Ten minutes later, in the conference room—
The air buzzed with hushed speculation as journalists filled the seats.
Then, the doors swung open.
Su Weichu entered.
The chatter died instantly.
Reporters scrambled to ask questions.
“Miss Su, why did you call us here?”
Su Weichu took her seat at the head of the table. “Didn’t you all want an interview? I’m giving you the opportunity now. Ask what you want. I’ll answer as I see fit.”
The reporters wasted no time.
“Miss Su, is it true that you deliberately drove your grandfather into the hospital to take control of Su Group?”
Su Weichu arched a brow.
“If I said yes, would you believe me?”
Her voice dripped with mockery as she swept a slow, assessing gaze over them.
“Let’s be clear. My grandfather personally named me his successor. The moment he retires, the company is legally mine. So tell me—why would I need to fight for something that’s already mine?”
A heavy silence followed.
She had a point.
The reporters exchanged uncertain glances.
Someone quickly recovered and pressed on, “Then how do you explain your grandfather’s sudden illness?”
Su Weichu leaned back, a teasing smirk playing on her lips.
“Oh, I could tell you… but it’s quite the coincidence.”
She paused dramatically, letting the anticipation build before continuing.
“You see, before my dear uncle returned, my grandfather was in perfect health. He had regular checkups, no issues at all. But ever since my uncle and his family came back… strange things started happening.”
She let her words linger.
Then, she dropped the bombshell.
“He wasn’t just sick. He was poisoned.”
A collective gasp filled the room.
“Poisoned?!”
Eyes widened in disbelief.
Feigning innocence, Su Weichu sighed.
“Yes, poisoned. Strange, isn’t it? Everything was fine—until my uncle’s return. And then, suddenly, my grandfather falls ill.”
At that moment, the reporters finally saw the truth.
This wasn’t about Su Weichu scheming for power.
This was about her uncle framing her—perhaps even willing to poison his own father for control.
One last question rang out.
“But Miss Su, where have you been these past few days?”
