Chapter 1: Divorce
“Nianzhen is pregnant.”
Lu Yunshang had just woken up when she was taken to the Civil Affairs Bureau by the Fu family’s driver.
The first words her husband, Fu Hanzhou, spoke to her were this piece of “good news.”
Her heart felt like it was being torn to shreds; excruciating pain, like a tidal wave, swept over her.
Lu Yunshang recalled the night of her wedding, when Fu Hanzhou brought his “white moonlight,” Xiao Nianzhen, home.
The two of them were getting intimate on the wedding bed, and he told her, “You can never be my wife, Fu Hanzhou.”
“Let’s get a divorce. I want to give Nianzhen and the child a name,” Fu Hanzhou said coldly.
Lu Yunshang raised her eyebrows, looking directly at the man who was as cold as an ice sculpture. He had a faint scent of floral perfume on him.
This was a woman’s perfume; it seemed he had spent the night with Xiao Nianzhen.
Giving her the “twin gifts” of his white moonlight’s pregnancy and a divorce on their wedding anniversary—Fu Hanzhou was truly thoughtful.
A surge of bitterness welled up in her chest, blurring her vision. Lu Yunshang sniffed hard, pretending to be calm, and smiled faintly.
“Congratulations, Fu Hanzhou. You’re going to be a father. Your grandfather will be very happy.”
Fu Hanzhou’s heart skipped a beat; his brows furrowed. Why was this woman so calm?
This wasn’t the scene he had envisioned. Shouldn’t she be crying, making a fuss, and hanging herself? Her composure left him at a loss for what to do.
“Let’s go. We’re probably the earliest here. After we finish the divorce procedures, you can go back to work.”
Lu Yunshang said this and, ignoring Fu Hanzhou, walked straight towards the hall of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Fu Hanzhou’s assistant, Ma Dong, handed over the divorce agreement.
Lu Yunshang glanced at it, her heart shattering into pieces. He wasn’t giving her a single cent; she was being forced to leave with nothing.
Fu Hanzhou sensed Lu Yunshang’s dissatisfaction. “Lu Yunshang, your family, the Lus, have taken over 100 million yuan this year. You’ve made a huge amount of money for nothing. You wouldn’t be unsatisfied, would you?”
Lu Yunshang curled her lips. “Did I say anything? Mr. Fu, that money was taken by Lu Mingyuan, not me, Lu Yunshang. That was a transaction between your father and my father. If you have any complaints, you can have your father get it back from my father.”
With a stroke of her pen, Lu Yunshang quickly signed her name and handed the agreement to Fu Hanzhou. “Sign quickly. Don’t delay the people behind us.”
A woman born under the Aquarius sign, when in love, will give herself wholeheartedly, willing to give her life for the other person; but if her heart dies, she will be extremely decisive and ruthless.
Lu Yunshang had spent a year trying to warm Fu Hanzhou’s heart, but instead, she extinguished her own burning heart for him.
The procedures were surprisingly smooth; she guessed Fu Hanzhou had made arrangements beforehand.
Half an hour later, the two walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau. Lu Yunshang hailed a taxi and got in, slamming the door shut.
Watching the car drive away, Fu Hanzhou forcefully tugged at his tie, feeling agitated.
He didn’t understand. Wasn’t he always trying to get her out of the Fu family?
Why did it feel so unsettling now that they were actually divorced?
In the taxi, Lu Yunshang took out her phone and called her senior brother, Liu Jingting. She had more important things to do.
She had received a message from her senior brother, Liu Jingting, early that morning: her father, Lu Mingyuan, was going to sell the company—the company her grandfather had left behind. Her mother had told her before she died to get the company back.
“Senior brother, about what you told me the other day, I agree.”
“Really?” Liu Jingting, who was in a morning meeting, jumped up excitedly.
“Everyone in the world is waiting for Chiyo to reappear. Yunshang, you’re not just kidding me, are you? I need to record this, to keep the evidence.”
Lu Yunshang chuckled. “Senior brother, I, Lu Yunshang, always keep my word.”
“Oh, right, I’m divorced. I just came from the Civil Affairs Bureau. I’m going back to Bi Shui Pavilion to pack my things. Can you come and pick me up? I’m moving back to Mudan Garden.”
The other end of the phone suddenly fell silent. After a moment, Liu Jingting’s high-pitched voice came through. “Meeting adjourned, meeting adjourned! I’m going to pick up my junior sister… Yunshang, wait for me, I’ll be right there… No, no, wait a minute, I’ll go buy firecrackers first.”
Lu Yunshang had a black line on her forehead: “….”
Ten minutes later, Lu Yunshang returned to Bi Shui Pavilion, a wealthy area in Huacheng, where the houses were all independent villas, very luxurious.
But Lu Yunshang didn’t like it at all. It was too cold, without any warmth.
Just like Fu Hanzhou, it lacked humanity.
She still preferred the apartment in Mudan Garden. It was the first house she had bought with her own money. It was located in the city center, with a parking space, and the surrounding area was lively, convenient for shopping and commuting.
Most of Lu Yunshang’s belongings were in Mudan Garden; there wasn’t much in Bi Shui Pavilion. A large suitcase was enough to hold everything.
The housekeeper was surprised to see her carrying a large suitcase, but dared not say anything. He wanted to help her carry it downstairs, but Lu Yunshang refused. She carried the suitcase downstairs herself and saw Fu Hanzhou sitting in the living room with a dark face.
He was smoking. When he saw her come down, he immediately extinguished his cigarette and got up to walk over.
“Open the suitcase. I want to check if you’ve taken anything you shouldn’t have.”
Lu Yunshang was furious, her face flushed red. The harm wasn’t great, but the insult was strong.
She didn’t want to get entangled with him, so she opened the suitcase to show him.
Fu Hanzhou glanced at it. It only contained some clothes and skincare products. Was this all she had?
“Have you seen everything clearly? Did I take anything I shouldn’t have? If not, can I go?”
“What’s the hurry? Are you in a rush to be reincarnated?” Fu Hanzhou scrutinized Lu Yunshang. In terms of looks, she was far more beautiful than Xiao Nianzhen. She had a small face, skin as white as glowing jade, bright big eyes, and a charming small mouth—very alluring.
But she was a venomous woman. She only loved the Fu family’s money. If he were a poor man, she probably wouldn’t even glance at him.
He hated women like this. Unlike Nianzhen, who loved him, Fu Hanzhou, as a person.
“Lu Yunshang, have you found a new target? Who’s the unlucky guy? How much money is your family, the Lus, planning to get this time? In Huacheng, is there anyone richer than our Fu family?”
Slap! A loud slap landed on Fu Hanzhou’s face.
He covered his burning face, staring dumbfounded at Lu Yunshang. She actually dared to hit him, and so hard.
“Filthy,” Lu Yunshang said, her face flushed.
Fu Hanzhou sneered. “Am I wrong? Didn’t you agree to this marriage because of the money? Don’t tell me you really loved me and married me. Your family, the Lus, are all vampires; you only have eyes for money.”
Lu Yunshang looked straight at Fu Hanzhou. “Fu Hanzhou, you’re wrong. I didn’t marry you because I wanted your Fu family’s money.”
“Heh, then why? Now that we’re divorced, you can tell me, right?” Fu Hanzhou said with disdain.
Lu Yunshang smiled bitterly in her heart. If I told you I loved you for ten years, would you believe me?
He definitely wouldn’t believe it. His arrogance made him look at everyone with prejudice, except for Xiao Nianzhen.
“Because I was blind,” Lu Yunshang said self-deprecatingly.
The events of ten years ago were vivid in her mind, but she had to face the reality that the past was gone.
In the year since their marriage, she had been alone in this cage, her tears long dried up.
The heart he had trampled on was already riddled with holes.
It was time to end it.
A line of poetry she had seen online flashed through Lu Yunshang’s mind: “I am a passerby with the spring breeze; you embrace the autumn water and hold the stars and rivers.”
She had to admit that she was just an insignificant passerby in Fu Hanzhou’s life.
“Goodbye, Fu Hanzhou. I hope we never see each other again!”
