Chapter 15: A Chance Encounter

A strong figure leaped into the pool.

Lu Yunshang, already submerged, vaguely felt a pair of strong hands enveloping her.

Such a steady chest. She leaned against him, unwilling to let go.

This must be a hallucination before death.

She was too weak to open her eyes. Her limbs were stiff from the icy water, and her eyelids felt frozen. Her consciousness was gradually fading, but before she completely lost consciousness, she seemed to hear a man shouting in her ear,

“Lu Yunshang, wake up.”

“Lu Yunshang, you’re going to die. I’ll definitely chase you to the underworld and drag you back…”

The next day.

In a VIP ward at Huacheng’s largest private hospital.

Lu Yunshang thought she was dead.

When she opened her eyes again, she found herself lying on a soft, warm bed.

Jiang Bogen, in a white coat, walked to the bedside and smiled at her, “You’re awake. Your fever has subsided. Thankfully, we saved you in time. Otherwise, you should be lying in a cold morgue now.”

Lu Yunshang froze, what?

Did he mean she was still alive?

A scene flashed through Lu Yunshang’s mind. When she sank to the bottom of the pool, a man jumped in to save her.

His scent was her perfume.

“Did Fu Changqing save me?” Lu Yunshang asked.

“Yeah, even heroes fall for beautiful women. Miss Lu, if it were someone else, Master Jiu wouldn’t have saved you.”

Jiang Bogen grinned, “I’ve known him for so many years, and I’ve never seen him show so much compassion.”

“Doctor Jiang,” Lu Yunshang interrupted Jiang Bogen.

“I hope you won’t say such things again, especially in front of Fu Ruoyun. What you say might be unintentional, but it could be taken the wrong way.”

Jiang Bogen froze, “Could it be that Ruoyun pushed you in?”

Lu Yunshang didn’t speak.

Jiang Bogen understood, “No wonder. I was wondering how you fell into the pool at the old house, and Fu Ruoyun happened to be there. That girl is causing trouble again.”

“I didn’t say she pushed me. Without evidence, I won’t say this to others. It’s just that there were no obstacles by the pool, yet I suddenly tripped, and Miss Fu was right there.”

Jiang Bogen seemed thoughtful.

“Are you close to those siblings?” Lu Yunshang asked.

“Their mother is my father’s sister. Their aunt and uncle died young, and the siblings depended on each other. Ruoyun is very dependent on her brother. She’s not a bad person, she’s just a little spoiled, pampered by her brother.”

“I see. Miss Fu might have misunderstood me. I’ll keep my distance from President Fu in the future.”

After Lu Yunshang finished speaking, she looked up and saw Fu Changqing standing at the door, his face grim, his eyes cold.

But he didn’t say anything and turned to leave.

Jiang Bogen shook his head helplessly and said to Lu Yunshang, “Miss Lu, you’re weak now. Rest well.”

Lu Yunshang nodded obediently, “Okay, thank you, Doctor Jiang.”

After Jiang Bogen left the ward, Lu Yunshang couldn’t sleep. Turning over, she saw her handbag on the bedside table. She remembered that when she fell, her bag had been thrown away and didn’t fall into the water.

Lu Yunshang got up, took her bag, and took out her phone. She saw eight missed calls.

All from Liu Jingting.

Lu Yunshang called him back.

“Yunshang, you’re awake,” Liu Jingting asked as soon as the call connected.

“Yes, Senior brother, you know what happened?”

“President Fu called me. I went to the hospital to see you last night, but you were unconscious. I was scared to death. How are you feeling now? Are you better?”

“I’m fine, Senior brother.”

“Wait for me. I’ll come to see you now. By the way, you must be hungry. I’ll buy you some porridge.”

“Thank you, Senior brother,” Lu Yunshang hung up the phone and lay down to rest.

She stared at the ceiling for a long time when the door suddenly opened. She sat up alertly and saw Fu Changqing dragging his sister, Fu Ruoyun, in.

“Apologize!” Fu Changqing shouted sharply.

Fu Ruoyun glared at Lu Yunshang, “She tripped because she wasn’t watching where she was going. Why should I apologize?”

“You dare to argue!”

Fu Ruoyun glared at Lu Yunshang, “Lu Yunshang, what are you saying nonsense to my brother about?”

“Fu Ruoyun, that’s enough!” Fu Changqing roared.

“How many times have you done this? I didn’t pursue it before because our parents died young, and I couldn’t bear to blame you. Now I see I was wrong. I was abetting you. You’re becoming more and more reckless.”

“If I hadn’t been there that day, can you imagine the consequences? Do you think this was just a prank? Do you know you were endangering someone’s life?”

Fu Ruoyun tightly clenched her bag, biting her lip.

After a long time, she said, “I won’t apologize to her.”

Lu Yunshang felt a chill. She saw a fierce look in Fu Ruoyun’s eyes. Her feelings for her brother were far more than just sibling affection. This obsession was terrifying.

“Miss Fu,” Lu Yunshang couldn’t help but say, “President Fu and I are just work colleagues. I hope you won’t misunderstand anymore. Let’s let the past be the past. I won’t mention it again, and President Fu shouldn’t either. I’m tired. Goodbye.”

Fu Ruoyun rolled her eyes and left, letting go of Fu Changqing’s hand.

Fu Changqing looked at Lu Yunshang, full of apologies, “Miss Lu, I’m really sorry. I guarantee this won’t happen again. I’ll have someone keep a close eye on Ruoyun.”

Lu Yunshang shook her head, “President Fu, don’t mind me saying this, but a heart problem needs a heart cure. You should know why Miss Fu is like this. President Fu, think about how to handle this relationship with her.”

Fu Changqing bowed his head in thought, silent.

Lu Yunshang knew he was intelligent and didn’t need to say more. She didn’t say anything else.

The atmosphere became awkward for a moment. Fortunately, Liu Jingting arrived, bringing Lu Yunshang hot pigeon porridge, black chicken soup, and some fruit.

“Eat more. If it’s not enough, I’ll buy more,” Liu Jingting busied himself getting Lu Yunshang to eat, completely unaware of Fu Changqing’s serious expression. He happily asked Fu Changqing if he wanted some fruit.

Fu Changqing shook his head, “I have something to do at the company. I’ll go now. Miss Lu, rest well. Manager Liu, thank you for your trouble.”

“It’s my pleasure,” Liu Jingting replied with a smile.

After Fu Changqing left, Liu Jingting asked Lu Yunshang, “President Fu seemed a little down.”

“Really? I didn’t notice,” Lu Yunshang pretended not to notice, deliberately changing the subject, “This porridge tastes good.”

“Then eat more.”

“Thank you, Senior brother.”

“Don’t be so polite with me. Oh, right, I sent the company’s information to Fu Corporation this morning. Secretary Liu said we can prepare more perfumes for the bidding meeting. Do you have any ideas?”

Lu Yunshang took a sip of chicken soup, “I have many ideas. Don’t forget, I’ve been idle at home for the past year. I can start after I’m discharged. I’ll make a few perfumes and show you.”

For the next two days, Fu Changqing didn’t appear again.

Only Liu Jingting delivered three meals a day on time. The food was exquisite and nutritious, not like ordinary restaurant food. It seemed specially prepared.

Lu Yunshang asked Liu Jingting, and he said he just bought it from a restaurant on the way.

Jiang Bogen wanted Lu Yunshang to stay a few more days, but she was worried about the approaching bidding meeting. Fu Yueyue had also called twice, saying she had secured a few orders and asked when Lu Yunshang could take them.

On the day of her discharge, Liu Jingting brought Fu Yueyue.

Fu Yueyue specially made a list of her orders, detailing the requirements of each client.

Money really makes the world go round, Lu Yunshang thought.

Fu Yueyue not only knew how to spend money but also had a business mind.

The three took the elevator to the underground parking garage. As the doors opened, they saw Fu Changqing.

Lu Yunshang smiled, about to greet him, but found a beautiful woman standing beside him.

Fu Changqing nodded slightly to the three of them.

Seeing the elevator arrive, the woman pulled Fu Changqing in.

As they passed each other, Lu Yunshang smelled Fu Changqing’s perfume.

It was a strong vetiver scent, not the perfume she made.

Fu Yueyue looked back after the elevator doors closed and excitedly said, “Did you see that woman? She’s Shen Yue, the daughter of the Shen family. She’s liked my brother since she was a child. She just returned from abroad and is also a perfumer, I heard.”

“Here’s the highlight,” Fu Yueyue said mysteriously.

“Grandpa is going to have Brother Changqing get engaged to Shen Yue. They might announce it soon.”
