Chapter 33: Engagement

“Sister-in-law, you’re here!” Fu Yueyue darted to Lu Yunshang, then quickly corrected herself, remembering something. “Yunshang, do you like my bag? I bought it with my commission. It’s a limited edition Spring Festival collection!”

Lu Yunshang smiled. “It’s pretty. Did you spend all your earnings on luxury goods?”

Fu Yueyue said proudly, “Yes! And I can buy whatever I want without having to report to my mom. I need to get more orders; there’s so much more I want to buy!”

“Yunshang,” Xiao Nianzhen walked over, arm in arm with Fu Hanzhou.

Lu Yunshang was surprised. Had the Fu family finally accepted Xiao Nianzhen?

When Fu Hanzhou saw Lu Yunshang, he subtly disengaged Xiao Nianzhen’s hand.

Xiao Nianzhen was embarrassed, forcing a smile.

Fu Meirou swaggered in, her son Huang Siyuan trailing behind.

Huang Siyuan raised his hand and waved to Lu Yunshang.

Lu Yunshang nodded in response.

Fu Meirou was displeased, speaking sarcastically. “What a lively gathering! Hanzhou, you’re quite something, managing to have your ex-wife and current girlfriend coexist peacefully. But why are you all back here after the divorce? Aren’t you ashamed?”

Lu Yunshang ignored Fu Meirou and said to Fu Yueyue, “I’m hungry. Let’s go get something to eat.”

Fu Yueyue grabbed Lu Yunshang. “Me too! Let’s go together.”

“Where are your parents?”

“They’ve gone abroad again.”

“And your uncle’s family?”

“Uncle’s farm business is booming; he’s swamped. Maybe they’ll come later.”

Watching Lu Yunshang leave, Fu Hanzhou took out a pack of cigarettes and said to Xiao Nianzhen, “I’m going to smoke,” before turning and leaving.

“Give me one too,” Huang Siyuan followed Fu Hanzhou, whispering, “Is it really over between you and Miss Lu?”

Fu Hanzhou snapped, “We’re divorced. What else can it be?”

Huang Siyuan glanced back at Xiao Nianzhen. “Do you really love Miss Xiao? Honestly, brother, she’s far inferior to Miss Lu in terms of looks and ability. What’s going on? Is it love is blind?”

“Want to die?” Fu Hanzhou glared at Huang Siyuan. “Believe me, I’ll break your other arm too! Why did you fall for that waitress, Tang Tang, from the club?”

Huang Siyuan was speechless.

Fu Meirou looked at Xiao Nianzhen’s stomach with interest. “Miss Xiao is quite impressive. Lu Yunshang has been married for a year, and there’s no sign of a baby, but you’re ahead of the game. This is the Fu family’s eldest grandson; you must be careful.”

Xiao Nianzhen touched her stomach and smiled. “Thank you, Aunt. I will definitely protect this child and ensure a safe delivery.”

Fu Meirou narrowed her eyes. “I’m afraid some people are malicious and envious of you.”

Xiao Nianzhen frowned. “Aunt, who are you referring to?”

Fu Meirou looked towards the courtyard. Lu Yunshang was choosing food at the buffet table.

Xiao Nianzhen followed her gaze and smiled. “Aunt, don’t worry. Yunshang won’t harm my child. She’s divorced from Hanzhou; they have nothing to do with each other anymore.”

Fu Meirou sneered. “You’re so naive.”

Outside, Lu Yunshang found an empty table with a plate of food. Fu Yueyue hopped over and placed a plate of fruit on the table. “Yunshang, what would you like to drink?”

“Lemonade.”

“Okay, coming right up!”

Fu Yueyue went to get drinks.

Lu Yunshang had just taken a few bites of her salad when she heard someone call her.

“Miss Lu.”

Su Qiyi stood before her with two glasses of red wine, his brother Su Qitai behind him.

“Miss Lu, long time no see,” Su Qitai greeted her calmly.

Lu Yunshang smiled and continued eating her salad.

Su Qiyi placed a glass of red wine in front of Lu Yunshang and sat down, followed by Su Qitai.

“I received the perfume you sent, Miss Lu,” Su Qiyi said. “My mother loves the perfume you made for her. She said if you have time, she’d like to have dinner with you.”

Lu Yunshang was surprised. “She likes it? Please tell your mother I appreciate it, but dinner isn’t necessary.”

Su Qitai showed displeasure. “Miss Lu, you’re quite aloof. My mother doesn’t just invite anyone to dinner; many people try to get an introduction and can’t even meet her.”

Lu Yunshang smiled. “Is that so? I’m sorry, Mr. Su, I didn’t mean to look down on your mother. I just think the perfume was paid for, not a gift, so there’s no need for an extra dinner.”

“Besides, as you say, your mother is of high status and someone like me is insignificant.”

Su Qitai was speechless, his face flushed. He stood up abruptly and left.

Su Qiyi felt it was impolite. “I’m sorry, Miss Lu. My brother is a bit quick-tempered, but he’s a good person.”

Lu Yunshang raised an eyebrow. “Is that so? I didn’t see it. I think he’s very different from you.”

Su Qiyi was embarrassed. “My brother might have some misunderstanding about you.”

“And you?” Lu Yunshang looked at Su Qiyi. “Why don’t you misunderstand me?”

Su Qiyi smiled. “I’m a doctor. I don’t judge people with my eyes, but with my heart.”

“That’s thoughtful.”

“Yunshang, your lemonade!” Fu Yueyue ran back with two glasses of lemonade. “Oh, you want red wine?”

Lu Yunshang pushed the red wine aside. “No, I don’t want to drink. Give me the lemonade.”

Taking the lemonade, Lu Yunshang gulped it down.

Su Qiyi stood up. “Miss Lu and Miss Fu, would you like anything else? I’ll get it for you.”

Fu Yueyue raised her hand. “The dessert just came out; it’s good. Please get some for us, Mr. Su.”

“Okay,” Su Qiyi smiled gently and went to get plates.

Meanwhile, in the old master Fu’s study, Shen Yue placed a brown paper bag on the desk.

“Master Fu, this is the gift I wanted to give you tonight.”

Master Fu looked puzzled. He opened the bag and poured out the contents.

They were photos of Fu Changqing and Lu Yunshang.

He flipped through a few, his face darkening, his anger rising, and veins appearing on his forehead.

“Master Fu, you know Changqing’s character. For so many years, he’s dedicated himself to reviving the Fu Group without making mistakes. I don’t know what Miss Lu did to him.”

“Humph, I treated her like a granddaughter, and she dares to covet our Fu family’s eldest grandson. If it weren’t for Hanzhou’s father insisting on marrying into the Lu family, I wouldn’t have allowed someone like her into our family.”

Shen Yue’s eyes rolled. “Grandpa, you’ve said it all. Maybe she’s had her sights set on Changqing all along, so she readily divorced Hanzhou and then tried to get close to Changqing.”

Master Fu’s gaze turned dark and cold. “Whether it’s a scheme or not, as long as I’m here, she won’t get close to Changqing. Don’t worry, I’ll handle this. If necessary, I’ll arrange your marriage to Changqing as soon as possible.”

Shen Yue was overjoyed. “Thank you, Grandpa. Once Changqing and I are married, the Shen family will strongly support Changqing’s career. I will also assist Changqing and be a good wife, bearing him children and expanding the Fu family.”

Master Fu nodded. “It’s rare that you’re so sincere to Changqing. Let’s go cut the cake. Tonight, I’ll give you an answer and make that woman give up.”

Shen Yue nodded vigorously and helped Master Fu up.

As they left the study, they saw Fu Changqing approaching.

“Grandpa, I need to talk to you.”

“We can talk later. I’m going to cut the cake now.”

Fu Changqing stopped him, his face serious. “Grandpa, I must say this now.”

Master Fu sighed. “Go ahead. Miss Shen is not an outsider.”

Fu Changqing glanced at Shen Yue and said firmly, “Grandpa, I can’t get engaged to Miss Shen.”
