Chapter 34: I Don’t Want to Marry You
Master Fu gripped his cane tightly and asked slowly, “What’s your reason?”
Fu Changqing thought for a moment and said, “I’m still young, I don’t want to marry so soon, and there are many problems within the group that need to be addressed.”
“Don’t worry about that. Miss Shen just promised me that after you marry, the Shen family will strongly support our Fu family, and she will assist you and be a good wife. You’ll essentially have an extra helper.”
Fu Changqing’s heart tightened, knowing that further argument was futile.
He stepped aside, yielding the way for Master Fu.
Shen Yue looked at Fu Changqing shyly, making no attempt to hide her triumph.
Watching their departing backs, Fu Changqing rotated the dragon-patterned ring on his finger, lost in thought. His expression turned dark and severe.
In the hall, the butler, Lin Haiyang, was directing the servants, carefully pushing the cake to the center of the room.
Guests began arriving.
Fu Yueyue pulled Lu Yunshang inside, followed closely by Su Qiyi.
“I heard Grandpa is going to announce something important. What could it be?” Fu Yueyue asked.
“We’ll find out soon,” Lu Yunshang replied absentmindedly.
She guessed it was probably the announcement of Fu Changqing and Shen Yue’s engagement.
A bodyguard slipped into the hall and whispered to a maid, “Did you see the woman with Young Master Fu? Her last name is Xiao, and she’s pregnant with his child. Young Master Fu divorced Miss Lu because of her.”
The maid’s face showed shock. “No wonder Young Master Fu has been with Miss Xiao all night and ignored Miss Lu. They’ve already divorced! Wow, this is so dramatic.”
Soon, the guests in the hall were whispering amongst themselves in small groups.
Lu Yunshang and Fu Yueyue were yawning in a corner, planning to go home after the cake-cutting.
Seeing more and more guests looking at her, Lu Yunshang thought there was something wrong with her appearance and quickly straightened up.
Fu Hanzhou and Xiao Nianzhen entered one after the other, and the crowd fell silent.
Fu Hanzhou was completely bewildered.
Master Fu and Shen Yue entered afterward, and the guests offered their birthday wishes to Master Fu.
Shen Yue constantly supported Master Fu, acting like a member of the Fu family.
Fu Yueyue rolled her eyes. “Grandpa is so biased! I’m his granddaughter, yet he lets an outsider steal the spotlight.”
Lu Yunshang smiled. “Do you care about that?”
Fu Yueyue pouted. “It’s not true that I don’t care. But I’ve known since I was little that in Grandpa’s eyes, only the eldest grandson matters; the rest are insignificant. I’m the least favored one.”
Lu Yunshang was stunned, wanting to comfort Fu Yueyue but unsure what to say.
She looked at Shen Yue, thinking, this is fate. Some people are born lucky, born with a silver spoon, getting everything they want without effort. Others, no matter how hard they try, it’s all in vain.
Shen Yue took the cake-cutting knife from the butler, Lin Haiyang, and handed it to Master Fu.
Under everyone’s gaze, Master Fu blew out the candles and began cutting the cake.
After a few symbolic cuts, he put down the knife.
“Thank you all for coming to my humble abode tonight and celebrating my birthday with this old man. My time is limited, and I just hope to hold my great-grandchild soon and see our Fu family prosper.”
“Now, I have some good news to share…”
“Master Fu, we already know,” a male guest suddenly shouted.
Master Fu was taken aback. “You all know?”
“Yes,” the guests said in unison.
“Congratulations, Master Fu, on your soon-to-be great-grandchild! Young Master Fu, Miss Xiao, congratulations! When’s the wedding?” a guest who looked like a socialite teased.
Other guests also congratulated Fu Hanzhou and Xiao Nianzhen.
Shen Yue was furious.
Master Fu’s face was ashen. He looked toward the entrance, where Fu Changqing leaned against the door, a smirk on his lips.
He rotated the dragon-patterned ring on his finger and left.
Lu Yunshang stood there, stunned and dazed.
Fu Yueyue supported her. “Yunshang, are you okay?”
Lu Yunshang shook her head. “I’m fine. Actually, it’s good this way; it was bound to be revealed sooner or later.”
Su Qiyi walked over to Lu Yunshang and whispered, “Miss Lu, I want to go home. Do you want to leave together?”
Lu Yunshang smiled slightly. “Okay.”
Fu Hanzhou watched Lu Yunshang leave with Su Qiyi, feeling uneasy.
He wanted to follow, but the guests stopped him, their congratulations making him even more agitated.
Xiao Nianzhen was beaming, her posture straighter as she received compliments from so many wealthy people.
Fu Meirou tightly gripped her wine glass, as if about to crush it, muttering, “Great-grandchild? It’s not certain if it will even be born.”
Huang Siyuan approached. “Mom, what are you saying?”
Fu Meirou glared fiercely at her son. “You’re just like your father—useless! All you do is eat, drink, and play. Starting tomorrow, you’re going to work at the Fu Group, or I’ll cut off all your cards.”
Huang Siyuan immediately wilted. “Mom…”
Lu Yunshang found her car in the parking lot and said goodbye to Su Qiyi. “Goodbye, Mr. Su.”
“Miss Lu, would you like to have a drink?” Su Qiyi stopped her.
Lu Yunshang thought for a moment. “It’s winter; it’s perfect for beer and grilled skewers.”
Su Qiyi smiled gently. “I know a good place.”
Lu Yunshang followed his car, and they drove away one after the other.
Fu Changqing stood under the trees at the entrance, watching the two cars leave, displeased.
He turned and saw Shen Yue running towards him. “Changqing.”
Fu Changqing glanced at Shen Yue. “Miss Shen, what is it?”
Shen Yue pouted. “Changqing, I won’t give up. I must become your wife.”
Fu Changqing adjusted his coat, his gaze sharp and fierce. “Miss Shen, I hate being threatened and controlled. Are you and Grandpa trying to manipulate me?”
Shen Yue shook her head vigorously. “No, Changqing, I… I just want to marry you.”
“But I don’t want to marry you,” Fu Changqing said, turning to leave.
Under the moonlight, Shen Yue clenched her fists, her teeth gritted in hatred. “Lu Yunshang, I will make you pay.”
Liu Jingting had just settled down to watch a movie when his phone rang.
Seeing it was Lu Yunshang, he quickly answered. “Yunshang, is the birthday party over?”
“Let’s go eat grilled skewers. Just Su Qiyi and me. I’ll send you the address; it’s near your place.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there.”
Hanging up, Liu Jingting quickly jumped out of bed and found a warm tracksuit.
Ten minutes later, he parked his car in front of the barbecue restaurant Lu Yunshang had sent him.
Entering, he saw Lu Yunshang and Su Qiyi eating heartily.
Lu Yunshang’s face was flushed, and there were already two empty beer cans beside her.
“Drinking again?” Liu Jingting touched Lu Yunshang’s head. “Drink less. You can’t hold your liquor, yet you still drink so much.”
Lu Yunshang rolled her eyes. “You don’t understand. In winter, grilled skewers and beer are a perfect match.”
Liu Jingting pulled out a chair and asked Su Qiyi, “Did this kid get upset again?”
Su Qiyi looked at Lu Yunshang and said to Liu Jingting, “Young Master Fu and Miss Xiao’s relationship has been made public.”
Liu Jingting narrowed his eyes at Lu Yunshang. “Just that? Didn’t you know already? Or do you really like that jerk, Fu Hanzhou? He doesn’t care about you at all; why are you still thinking about him?”
“You don’t understand anything!” Lu Yunshang slapped Liu Jingting’s face.
“I asked you to find someone, but you found a fake. Fu Hanzhou is definitely not the person I’m looking for; otherwise, he wouldn’t treat me like that. What hurts is, where is the person I’m looking for?”
