Chapter 9: Would you consider marrying me?
He Chi didn’t respond.
Seeing that the atmosphere between mother and son was getting tense, Jiang Yining said, “Teacher Lin, I know Teacher Zhang’s daughter. She has a boyfriend.”
Lin Shu was surprised, “Why did Teacher Zhang say she was single?”
”Her boyfriend is from another province, and Teacher Zhang wants her to find a local boyfriend. She doesn’t plan to tell her family yet.”
Lin Shu understood, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell Teacher Zhang.”
She sighed and looked at He Chi, “Then I don’t have anyone suitable to introduce to you. When you are old and single, don’t blame me.”
Teacher He comforted her, “Marriage cannot be forced, maybe your destiny will come soon.”
Lin Shu gave him a reproachful look and said, “You are an old physics teacher, why do you say such weird things like Teacher Zhang?”
He Chi saw that today’s hurdle was over. He checked the time and then looked at Jiang Yining, “I’ll take you and He Xiaohui back.”
Jiang Yining hesitated for only a second, and said to Lin Shu, “Teacher Lin, I’ll go back first. I’ll come back another day.”
Lin Shu nodded, “Okay.” She reminded He Chi, “Drive slowly and be careful.”
He Chi hummed.
He stood up and called out “He Xiaohui”.
He Xiaohui slowly opened his eyes after hearing his voice and followed He Chi calmly.
After hearing the door close, Lin Shu said to He Yuwen, “Look at your son, he just left and took my Yining with him. I finally got to talk to Yining.”
After that, she added, “It would be better if He Chi took her home. It’s so hot so she doesn’t have to go through the trouble of taking the bus.”
Outside the door, Jiang Yining lowered her eyes. She and He Chi walked down the stairs one after another, while He Xiaohui walked beside her.
Jiang Yining was thinking about the fact that He Chi was also on a blind date, and she didn’t notice that after going down the stairs, she and He Chi were separated by a long distance.
It was clearly an unintentional act, but in He Chi’s opinion, Jiang Yining was deliberately keeping a distance from him.
Thinking of Jiang Yining’s smile after seeing him, He Chi could no longer hold back his doubts. He stopped and called out in a low voice, “Jiang Yining.”
Jiang Yining paused, she turned her head and looked at He Chi blankly, only then she realized the distance between them.
She smiled at He Chi sheepishly and explained, “I was just thinking about something.”
He Chi walked forward, lowered his eyes, and locked his gaze on Jiang Yining, “Why are you so afraid of me?”
Jiang Yining: “…”
”I don’t.”
The person in front of him pursed her red lips and lowered her eyelashes. He could not see the emotions in Jiang Yining’s eyes and could not guess what she was thinking at the moment.
The dress Jiang Yining is wearing today looks very nice. This style of clothing matches her gentle temperament.
Of course, the dress she wore when I saw her at the bar last time was also beautiful, but I could tell that she was feeling unnatural at the time.
Jiang Yining didn’t dare to look He Chi in the eye and simply stared at the tip of her shoes. However, He Chi was right in front of her and she couldn’t ignore him even if she wanted to.
He Chi’s tall figure pressed down to block the hot sun for her.
In the afternoon, the outside was like an airtight steamer, and the stuffy air enveloped the two of them.
She didn’t tell the truth, and He Chi couldn’t do anything to Jiang Yining, “Let’s go to the car first.”
He Chi walked outside, Jiang Yining tugged at the edge of her skirt and followed him obediently.
It was still the black Land Rover that He Chi drove last time. He got in the car first and turned on the air conditioner.
Jiang Yining arrived right after her. She carried He Xiaohui to the back seat. Thinking of the question He Chi had asked her just now, she suddenly didn’t want to sit in the passenger seat anymore.
She walked over slowly, took a deep breath, and then opened the car door.
As soon as he got in the car, He Chi looked at Jiang Yining.
Jiang Yining noticed He Chi’s gaze and when he looked up, he met He Chi’s deep black eyes.
The space was so small, and the unique scent of He Chi lingered in her nose, causing Jiang Yining’s heartbeat to speed up.
The phone in her bag vibrated. Jiang Yining reached out for the phone as if relieved. She said to He Chi, “I’ll take the call first.”
Hearing this, He Chi hummed, “You answer it.” Then he asked, “Do you need me to go down?”
It was too hot outside, and the air conditioner in the car had already started to work. Jiang Yining shook his head, “No need.”
She took out her cell phone and saw that it was her aunt calling. In an instant, a bad premonition came to her mind.
After Jiang Yining answered the call, she held the phone to her ear away from He Chi and said, “Aunt.”
Jiang Yufang first asked a few questions about Jiang Yining’s life, and then told him the purpose of her call, “Ningning, your father asked me if I know any boys of your age.”
”My niece is so beautiful and has a good job. Aunt thought you were in a relationship, so she didn’t worry about you.”
Jiang Yining glanced at He Chi from the corner of her eyes. Seeing that he was looking at his phone, she lowered her voice and said, “Aunt, you don’t need to worry about me.”
Jiang Yufang laughed a few times and asked, “Ningning, tell your aunt the truth, are you in a relationship, but you just don’t want your father and your aunt Hong to know?”
Jiang Yining was helpless, “No.”
Hearing the tone of Jiang Yining’s answer, Jiang Yufang knew that he was not just trying to get her to give her a perfunctory answer. “In that case, I will help you find someone.”
Jiang Yining was embarrassed. “No, I don’t need it, Aunt, I’m busy now, can we talk later?”
After dealing with Jiang Yufang, Jiang Yining felt exhausted. She had clearly told her father that she didn’t want them to interfere, but he still went to find her aunt.
He Chi heard her sigh. Being in the same small space, he had sensitive hearing and it was impossible for him not to know what they were talking about.
Both of them were facing the same trouble. Jiang Yining raised his eyes, and the moment they looked at each other, they smiled helplessly at the same time.
He Chi smiled and said, “I was forced by Teacher Lin to go on a blind date at the cafe that day, so I made up an excuse.”
Jiang Yining understood what he wanted to express.
He put one hand on the steering wheel and started the car after saying this.
Jiang Yining actually didn’t want to mention the blind date in the cafe. She was concerned about meeting He Chi in such an embarrassing situation.
But now that He Chi mentioned it on his own initiative, Jiang Yining felt relieved as if a weight had been lifted off his chest.
Every adult has his or her own difficulties. It was Zhao Hong’s fault for treating her like that, not hers.
He Chi first went to the pet store and bought a small bag of cat food and necessary tools.
He originally wanted to leave He Xiaohui at his parents’ house, where there was a pet shop near the community, and planned to go shopping later.
He never thought of letting Jiang Yining take care of He Xiaohui.
After coming out of the pet shop, He Chi asked Jiang Yining for the address.
In the car, Jiang Yining asked him about He Xiaohui’s usual habits.
He Chi said lazily, “Just give it some cat food. It’s too hot, so there’s no need to take it out for a walk.”
Jiang Yining turned around and looked at He Xiaohui pitifully. It looked very much like its owner and they both looked equally cold and aloof.
When they arrived at the destination, He Chi found a shady place to park the car. He opened the door and let He Xiaohui get out.
He himself was also surprised that He Xiaohui was willing to be close to Jiang Yining and was willing to go with her.
He Chi took out the things he bought from the pet store from the trunk. The things were not heavy, so he handed them to Jiang Yining.
Jiang Yining looked up at him and said, “Then I’ll go back first. Contact me when you come back…”
Speaking of this, Jiang Yining remembered that she had no contact information for He Chi.
It seemed that He Chi had also thought of it. He raised his thin lips slightly, as if smiling, “Would it be convenient for me to add WeChat?”
Jiang Yining was stunned for a moment, then took out her phone, “Sure, scan me.”
His WeChat profile picture was a silhouette of his back, and Jiang Yining could tell at a glance that it was him.
Jiang Yining was still looking down at her phone when suddenly, He Chi’s magnetic voice came from above her head. He called her name, “Jiang Yining.”
Jiang Yining raised her eyes, a hint of confusion flashed in her moist almond-shaped eyes. She wanted to ask He Chi if there was anything else he wanted to tell her.
She moved her lips but didn’t say anything because He Chi spoke first.
He asked, “Jiang Yining, would you consider marrying me?”
