Chapter 14: Space Upgrade
After everyone had rested for a while, Lin Luoluo instructed everyone to pack up and continue on their journey. When their carriage passed by the group of refugees, the man leading them knelt down in the direction the carriage was heading.
“Thank you, Miss, for your kindness,” he said, bowing three times before standing up and leading the others away.
Lin Luoluo suddenly felt a golden energy flow into her body, which puzzled her. She followed the source of the energy and lifted the curtain of the carriage. It turned out that this energy came from the refugees’ gratitude.
Lin Luoluo was secretly delighted. “I knew it. This is the power of merit.”
While she was feeling happy, a sudden loud noise came from the space, and a small mountain appeared at the edge of the orchard. Lin Luoluo quickly spoke to Chun Tao and the others before vanishing from the carriage.
“Miss (Elder Sister)!”
Everyone screamed in surprise at the same time, then quickly covered their mouths in fear of being heard by outsiders. They kept their eyes wide open, staring at the spot where Lin Luoluo had disappeared, eagerly waiting for her return.
Meanwhile, Lin Luoluo was inside her space, grinning like a fool as she looked at the space, which had expanded more than double in size. The spiritual spring had also grown larger, and the water became even sweeter with a more noticeable effect. The thatched house remained unchanged, though she wondered if anything new had appeared inside.
Excited, Lin Luoluo rushed in and tried opening the second level of the medicine cabinet. Sure enough, it opened.
“What is this? Talismans? Prescriptions, pill recipes, and so many martial arts secrets… Is this a ring or a lucky bag?” Lin Luoluo’s mind exploded with excitement.
“Ah… this is… this is a spatial ring and storage bag, haha… haha!” Lin Luoluo threw her head back and started laughing crazily.
What she didn’t notice was that in the corner of the space, a small beast was covering its ears in disgust.
“This current master is a bit of a fool…”
It recalled how the divine being had created them, sent them to the mortal realm to find a fated person for a mission, but unexpectedly, it fell into the river of time. It had only just emerged, and its previous master was dead. It had accidentally bonded with Lin Luoluo’s soul, had no choice but to bring her here, and had exhausted all its spiritual power, causing the space to revert to its beginner level.
“Sigh… I wonder when I can finish my mission and return to the Immortal Realm?” The small beast sighed helplessly.
Finally, Lin Luoluo’s laughter stopped, and the small beast drifted over to the thatched house.
Lin Luoluo, too excited to notice, was still absorbed in the space.
“How do I open these rings and storage bags? Do I need to drip blood to bind them?” Lin Luoluo muttered to herself.
Just as she was about to try dripping blood onto one of the rings, a voice suddenly popped up beside her, almost scaring her to death.
“Master, you can open them with your mind,” the voice said.
“Who? Who’s speaking?” Lin Luoluo turned around, but there was no one in sight, which made her feel uneasy.
Just as Lin Luoluo thought she was imagining things due to her excitement, the small beast, with its paw, tugged at the corner of her pants.
“Master, I’m here!”
Lin Luoluo looked down and saw a small beast with round eyes, looking at her adorably. The beast was pure white, resembling a little white fox.
Lin Luoluo wasn’t afraid and squatted down to pick it up.
“Are you a little fox?” she asked while gently petting its fur.
“Master, I’m not a fox! I am the spirit of space. I can take any form, but I’m in this animal form right now because I lack spiritual power,” the beast replied.
“Oh! I see!”
“Then you just said that I can open these using my mind, right?”
“Yes, Master,” the small beast nodded.
Lin Luoluo followed its advice and tried it out, successfully opening one of the space rings.
The space inside wasn’t very large but was still decent, about two hundred square meters. It was empty for now, but Lin Luoluo checked every corner and found it all empty. Though there was nothing inside, she still felt that this upgrade had brought a lot of benefits.
After examining everything, she packed everything away and turned to the small beast.
“What’s your name, little one?”
“Master, my name is Number One. I was the first one made by the divine being to carry out a mission. But something went wrong,” the beast explained.
“A mission? What does that mean?” Lin Luoluo caught the two words and seemed to realize something.
“It means I need to gather merit. Once I gather enough merit and upgrade to the full level, you can make a wish come true,” the beast said.
“Can I return to my original world?” Lin Luoluo’s eyes lit up.
“Of course,” the beast replied.
“But upgrading the space requires a lot of spiritual energy.”
“Isn’t it just merit power?” Lin Luoluo asked, recalling something. She rushed to open the boxes she had previously collected, only to find all the jade ornaments were missing, leaving behind only gold, silver, calligraphy, and paintings.
Lin Luoluo groaned, clutching her chest in pain. “How much jade do I need to upgrade this thing even once? How much more will I need to reach full level?” She sighed in despair, knowing she’d have to work hard once things stabilized.
After calming down, Lin Luoluo looked at the small beast and said, “Number One… hmm, how about I give you a name? Since you’re the spirit of space and pure white, how about calling you Bai Ling?”
Then, she suddenly remembered how she had bathed in the space before, wondering if the beast had seen her. So…
“Let me see if you’re male or female,” she said, flipping the small beast over to inspect.
“Haha… haha… Master, that’s so ticklish! I… I don’t have a gender right now! I can take on a gender once I fully transform,” the beast stammered.
“Well then, when you transform, you’ll be a girl,” Lin Luoluo said firmly.
After the beast nodded in agreement, she let it go.
Bai Ling, escaping from her grasp, turned its head away in a mix of shyness and anger, ignoring her. “Hmph…”
Lin Luoluo, amused by its expression, didn’t mind. She used her mind to plant crops on the extra land and picked some fruits.
Afterward, she hugged Bai Ling again and gently petted it, coaxing it. “Alright, alright, don’t be angry. I promise I won’t do it again. Come on, eat a fruit.”
Bai Ling, seeing her apologize and offer fruit, grumbled but reluctantly accepted the fruit and jumped out. After finishing it, it said, “This time, I’ll reluctantly forgive you.”
Lin Luoluo shook her head in amusement, but then realized she’d been inside for quite a while. She quickly grabbed the remaining fruits and exited the space.
As soon as Lin Luoluo emerged from the space, she felt several pairs of eyes on her. Time seemed to freeze for half a second.
“Elder Sister (Elder Sister), you’re finally out!” Lin Zirui and Lin Wanwan jumped into her arms.
“Miss, you’re out! You scared me half to death!” Chun Tao exclaimed.
“Eek!” Lin Ziyu added.
“Don’t worry, I’ll bring you all in next time,” Lin Luoluo reassured them.
“Can we also enter that magical place?” Lin Zirui asked, curiosity shining in his eyes, and the others looked just as eager.
“Probably! We’ll know next time we try.”
With that, Lin Luoluo handed them the fruit to eat.
Upon hearing her response, they temporarily suppressed their curiosity and began eating the fruit
