Chapter 22 – This Is Too Much!

Ye Guanjun was stunned for a moment and frowned.

“Commander, did Su Ying come back complaining she’s unhappy with the job we arranged for her?”

Gu Jinghong recalled the look Su Ying had when she said she was going to “battle it out with this job.” His face darkened slightly as he looked at Ye Guanjun.

“What exactly is the job you arranged for her?”

Sensing something was off in Gu Jinghong’s tone, Ye Guanjun assumed Su Ying had complained and disliked handling money and bookkeeping. He quickly explained:

“Commander, the hospital was already doing us a favor just agreeing to take her. But honestly, it’s not a job just anyone can handle without medical training. So… Old Du and I figured we’d place her at the registration desk collecting fees. She didn’t like that?”

He asked cautiously, leaning slightly backward as if bracing for Gu Jinghong to lose his temper and needing to run at any moment.

But Gu Jinghong frowned deeper. The job of “collecting fees at registration” didn’t match what Su Ying had implied.

“Go ask the hospital again. See if her assignment was changed.”

Ye Guanjun looked at the commander, inwardly thinking, Changed to what? The only options related to medicine were either collecting fees or being a nurse—there wasn’t much else.

But seeing Gu Jinghong’s clearly sour mood, he didn’t dare argue. He just said, “Okay, I’ll go check.”

Back in his own office, Ye Guanjun gulped down a full mug of tea before beginning to grumble:

“Seriously, I’m a regimental political commissar, and here I am acting like a babysitter every day.”

Director Du put down the file he was holding and glanced up at him.

“What are you complaining about? When Commander Gu was transferring to Jiangcheng, who was the one bouncing with joy and even ran to the train station to pick him up personally? Now you think you’re just a babysitter?”

Ye Guanjun’s face dropped. He sat down on a bench and huffed.

“Sigh… I’m not really complaining. I’m just mad at myself for being such a coward in front of the Commander. He asked me about his little wife’s job today, told me to check again—and I didn’t even dare ask why.”

“Pfft—!”

Director Du couldn’t help but laugh and gave Ye a pat on the back.

“Commissar Ye, that’s totally normal. Back in the capital, even generals didn’t dare speak too freely around Commander Gu. You and I are already doing pretty well. He’s a lot calmer now that he’s down and out—at least he’s not kicking people anymore, right?”

Ye gave him a look: Kicking? As if he still could.

“Sigh, whatever. I’ll call and check again. That little wife of his probably went home to complain. Maybe she wants to be a doctor. That’s a headache. Someone with no medical training becoming a doctor? That’s putting lives at risk! No matter what, I can’t help her do something that reckless.”

Muttering, he picked up the phone and called a department head at the city office.

That director was also puzzled. He had passed the task to someone else and hadn’t expected it to be handled poorly.

That afternoon, Su Ying had just finished scrubbing the downstairs toilets. As she was putting away the broom and mop, she heard the sharp sound of high heels clicking toward her. Yang Tianjiao, dressed in a white coat, strode over.

“You done cleaning?”

“Mm.”

Su Ying didn’t want to talk to her. She sensed this woman not only liked to show off but also had something against her. So, she tried to ignore her.

But Yang Tianjiao had no intention of letting her leave.

Just as Su Ying stepped out of the bathroom, she barked:

“Stop right there!”

Su Ying turned around. “What now?”

“Look at this! Is this how you clean a bathroom? Don’t you know the walls need to be wiped down too? This is a hospital—if it’s not clean, it breeds bacteria. If patients get infected, can you take responsibility?”

When Su Ying didn’t respond, Yang Tianjiao sneered:

“You can’t even clean properly. What can you do?”

Seeing Su Ying just stand there with the broom, not moving, she raised her voice harshly:

“Didn’t you hear me talking to you? Go wipe down the walls inside—did you think mopping the stalls was enough?”

She checked one of the stall areas and spotted a single urine stain nearby. Pointing at it, she added:

“Clean that up too.”

Su Ying clutched the broom tightly, turned around, and started walking off without saying a word.

“Hey! Stop right there! Didn’t you hear me? You think you can just leave without finishing the job? Do you still want this job or not?”

Su Ying suddenly stopped, turned back to the approaching Yang Tianjiao—and without hesitation, threw the broom and mop right at her.

“Who do you think you are? You own this bathroom? If you care so much, then you clean it. I’ll lend you my tools. Do I look like someone who’ll keep swallowing this crap forever?”

Then she grabbed the mop bucket and dumped it at Yang Tianjiao.

“And here—take this too!”

“Ahhh!”

Yang Tianjiao had already been stunned by the broom and mop. Now drenched by a full bucket of water, she shrieked as icy water soaked her completely.

She stood there drenched like a drowned rat, wearing only a light-colored blouse under her lab coat. Now it was completely see-through, her figure faintly visible underneath.

Su Ying raised an eyebrow. Wow. She’s not even wearing a bra. Pretty confident in herself, huh?

“Oh my god… you can see everything! Who is that? Someone get her out of here—what a disgrace.”

Patients waiting nearby were whispering, and a few bold men even whistled.

“Well, gotta admit, she does have a nice body.”

The head nurse quickly rushed over and draped her own white coat around Yang Tianjiao.

“Dr. Yang! What happened? Hurry, put this on.”

Grabbing the coat, Yang Tianjiao glared at Su Ying with pure hatred in her eyes.

“Su Ying, you—you dared to throw water on me?!”

Su Ying knew full well she might lose her job over this today. But whatever. This woman had been picking on her over and over—and now even tried to humiliate her?

Did she think Su Ying would suddenly become docile just because she’d traveled back to the 1980s?

She took a few steps toward Yang Tianjiao. The latter lunged, trying to claw at her.

But Su Ying swiftly grabbed the mop from the floor and swung it—right across her face.

“Ahhh!”

Another scream. Yang Tianjiao stumbled back several steps and began dry heaving, one hand pointing at Su Ying, trembling.

“Arrest her! Get her! She’s trying to kill me—this little tramp!”

Su Ying planted the mop on the ground, holding it like a staff as she stared her down.

“I’m trying to hurt you? Ever since I started working here, who’s really been bullying who?”

She looked around at the gathered doctors.

“Let me ask all of you something: Have the restroom walls ever needed to be wiped down like that? Can there really be zero urine stains in a public toilet? Am I supposed to squat there all day, watching who finishes and immediately rush in to wipe up?”
