Chapter 12: Changing the Wine
Early the next morning.
Jiang Rong was wearing a brand new goose-yellow short jacket with butterflies and peonies, a flowing skirt of the same pattern, her hair styled in a Chao Yun knot, adorned with blue enamel butterfly hairpins with pearls.
She was in a very good mood.
Yesterday, she and her husband kissed again and again, and their marital relationship had made great progress!
Very good, keep it up! Keep striving!
“The Crown Princess is here!” As soon as Chen Caiwei saw Jiang Rong, she immediately greeted her with a smile and invited her to the seat of honor: “Crown Princess, please!”
The Clear Wind Poetry Gathering was held in Chen Caiwei’s small courtyard.
At this time, many people had already arrived at the banquet. The first seat on the left was the most distinguished seat, and Chen Caiwei led Jiang Rong to the position…
Jiang Rong glanced at the table. At this time, fruits, melons, and wine were already set out.
Her gaze casually swept over the wine pot, her thin lips curved, and she turned around and sat down in the second seat.
“This is Big Sister-in-law’s seat…” Chen Caiwei quickly reminded her, “The Crown Princess has a distinguished status and should sit in the first seat.”
Jiang Rong smiled and said, “There is order between elders and juniors. My aunt has always taught me to respect elders and love the young. I will yield this first seat to my eldest sister-in-law.”
“This…” Chen Caiwei was momentarily choked.
She had already set the trap, but the prey had run out of the trap.
Another young lady who had come to the gathering praised, “I have long heard that the Jiang family in Jiangbei is renowned for their poetry and literature, and their virtue has been passed down through generations. Seeing it today, it is indeed true!”
Jiang Rong smiled humbly, “You flatter me.”
She no longer paid attention to Chen Caiwei and spoke to the young ladies who came to talk to her.
Chen Caiwei was left aside and couldn’t interject.
Before long, Madam Qiao also arrived.
Seeing the empty seat on the left, she thought to herself, Chen Caiwei is openly slapping Jiang Rong’s face!
She actually arranged the Crown Princess’s seat below hers.
She then thought, if Jiang Rong makes a fuss, and Chen Caiwei says “order between elders and juniors” again, it will make Jiang Rong appear disrespectful to her eldest sister-in-law…
So, with the intention of watching the show, she sat down calmly.
“Big Sister-in-law is here!” As soon as Jiang Rong saw Madam Qiao, she smiled very kindly, “Today’s first cup, I will toast Big Sister-in-law first. You are the most senior among us, and you should go first.”
Saying this, she drained the wine cup in her hand.
Her first?
When Madam Qiao heard this, she felt that Jiang Rong was being sarcastic about the seating arrangement, so she smiled slightly, picked up the wine cup in front of her, and also returned the toast, drinking it down, “My sister-in-law is too polite!”
Chen Caiwei watched anxiously, unable to interject the whole time. The doctored wine was drunk by Madam Qiao…
She didn’t have time to change the wine!
Jiang Rong watched Madam Qiao finish the wine, her eyebrows curved slightly, and her gaze swept over the banquet. There were many guests, but Shen Wenyuan was not among them.
In her previous life, as soon as Shen Wenyuan entered, a maid deliberately spilled a bowl of soup on his robe, leading him to the guest room to change clothes…
He would drink the doctored tea in the guest room.
Chen Caiwei planned to lead Jiang Rong to the guest room. Even if Jiang Rong argued that she had been drugged, there would be no evidence…
Then she would be considered to have had an affair. Even if it was found that she had been drugged, it would be seen as her taking the drug herself for pleasure…
Chen Caiwei wanted Jiang Rong to be ruined.
Jiang Rong withdrew her gaze. It seemed that Shen Wenyuan had already been led to the guest room. She looked at Madam Qiao again, her thin lips curved:
“Big Sister-in-law, I heard of your talent when I was still in my boudoir. At today’s poetry gathering, I would like to ask Big Sister-in-law for some guidance.”
Madam Qiao had a reputation as a talented woman and also liked to show off her knowledge. With a group of young ladies watching, she took on the air of a teacher and explained the art of poetry to Jiang Rong.
Chen Caiwei saw Madam Qiao talking non-stop and interrupted, “Big Sister-in-law, there are some things I want to tell you.”
If Madam Qiao were to have an attack in front of everyone, the whole show would be ruined!
She had to lead Madam Qiao away.
But Jiang Rong blocked her with an understated remark:
“Cousin, what secret do you want to tell Big Sister-in-law? Why not wait until Big Sister-in-law finishes explaining this poem. We are only halfway through.”
The other young ladies echoed her.
Madam Qiao was speaking enthusiastically and didn’t pay attention to Chen Caiwei. When she reached the most exciting part, she suddenly let out a delicate moan and reached out to tear at her collar.
Everyone was stunned.
