Chapter 10: Missing
Bai Hui, in the middle bunk, couldn’t sleep either. She poked her head out and looked at Zhuo Le. Their eyes met, and both had wry smiles on their faces.
Dawn broke, and a new round of liveliness began.
Fortunately, in the afternoon, the train stopped again, and most of the people in the car left, and the air instantly cleared.
Zhuo Le quickly got out of bed and strolled around, with Wei Xiaojia and Mountain King following closely behind. Both people and the dog exhaled a mouthful of stale air.
Bai Hui put a mask on Ruan Mianmian and also strolled around in the aisle.
“I’ll never take a hard sleeper again, it’s too scary.”
Zhuo Le glanced at the mask on Ruan Mianmian’s face and didn’t ask any more questions.
She smiled and said, “The hard sleeper is still okay, the standing ticket car and the sitting ticket car are even scarier.”
Bai Hui looked shocked, “I’ve never been there, I don’t know, how crowded can it get?”
Zhuo Le thought for a while, “Your feet won’t touch the ground, it’s impossible to describe, you can only know if you’ve experienced it yourself.”
Bai Hui shook her head desperately, she didn’t want to experience it.
Although most of the people in the car had left, there were still many left, and there were always people crowding back and forth.
The few of them didn’t stroll around for too long and returned to their bunks.
Having not slept well last night, Zhuo Le leaned back and took a nap, sleeping all the way until midnight, until she was awakened by snoring and opened her eyes until dawn.
Fortunately, they would arrive at the station in the afternoon.
“Aiya, the train is really not for people, it made me unable to eat well or sleep well.” The old lady on the opposite bed from Zhuo Le didn’t get off the train.
She was cracking sunflower seeds again, spitting out the shells everywhere, while complaining.
Zhuo Le really wanted to spray her a few times, you’re like this and you still haven’t slept well or eaten well?
She rubbed her forehead, “Son, Mommy has a headache, help Mommy massage it.”
Wei Xiaojia put down his book and hurried over, his chubby paws holding Zhuo Le’s face worriedly, “Why does Mommy have a headache?”
Zhuo Le kissed the little thing’s chubby cheeks, “Maybe it’s because I didn’t sleep well.”
Wei Xiaojia instantly turned red like a cooked shrimp, went behind Zhuo Le, and stretched out his little paws to massage her head.
“Mommy, I’m grown up, we can’t kiss anymore, does it still hurt like this?”
Zhuo Le couldn’t help but laugh. When he was two years old, the little thing wouldn’t let her kiss him anymore, always saying that he was grown up.
“Hmm, it doesn’t hurt anymore, my son is so good.”
The old lady scoffed, “So pretentious.”
She’s already a mother, but she still dresses up so flirtatiously, she looks restless.
“Pfft…”
The old lady spat hard, it was clear that she had personal emotions.
Zhuo Le…
“We’re here, we’re here, Mianmian, hurry up and get up and pack up to get off the train.”
In the afternoon, as soon as the arrival announcement sounded, Bai Hui couldn’t wait to get up and urge Ruan Mianmian.
She had also had enough of the noise and crowding, and she also had to take care of her daughter.
Ruan Mianmian had also suffered on the train, she was listless and couldn’t cheer up. She let Bai Hui put on her mask, put on her coat, and hang her little bag.
“Quick, get off first, wait for Mommy right next to you, don’t run around.” Ruan Mianmian pouted and got off the lower bunk, stood in the corner of the aisle, leaned against the foot of the bed, listless.
Bai Hui was packing things in the upper bunk. Her daughter was delicate, and there were many kinds of trivial things.
Zhuo Le didn’t move, Wei Xiaojia was packing, and Mountain King was trying to shrink himself, leaning in the corner to avoid blocking the way.
“Aiya, we’re finally here, hurry, hurry, get off the train.” The old lady on the opposite bed shouted and carried her big bundle to the door.
When others saw this, they also became anxious and followed, picking up their bundles and squeezing towards the door.
Ruan Mianmian, leaning against the foot of the bed, was uncontrollably pushed forward by the crowd, “Mommy, Mommy…”
Bai Hui took a look and became anxious, “Mianmian, Mianmian, stand there and don’t move, Mianmian.”
She couldn’t care about packing her things and slipped down the lower bunk to chase after her.
However, several people squeezed out from next door, and Bai Hui was squeezed, unable to move forward or backward, and shouted anxiously, “Mianmian, you stand in the corner, don’t move, wait for Mommy, do you hear me?”
“Mommy, Mommy…”
Ruan Mianmian didn’t know if she heard Bai Hui’s shout, and kept crying and calling Mommy.
The train had already stopped, and everyone was squeezing towards the door, making it even more difficult for Bai Hui and her son to reunite.
Zhuo Le and her son were not in a hurry to get out. Anyway, it was the last stop, and there was no rush.
“Son, help Auntie Bai pack her things.”
“Okay, Mommy.”
Wei Xiaojia put his things on Mountain King’s back and climbed onto the middle bunk to help Bai Hui pack and organize her luggage.
“Mommy, should we take it out?”
Zhuo Le glanced at it. There were quite a few things, and Mountain King probably couldn’t carry them.
Just as a train attendant was passing by, Zhuo Le handed the things over to the train attendant.
At this time, getting off the train was smooth, and even the people at the station were fewer.
“Mommy, hasn’t Auntie Bai found Sister Mianmian yet?”
She didn’t see anyone at the platform. Zhuo Le thought she probably hadn’t found her yet. It was abnormal.
“Be good, let’s go out first.”
As soon as the mother and son walked out of the platform, they saw Bai Hui.
Bai Hui looked anxious, asking everywhere if anyone had seen Ruan Mianmian.
Wei Xiaojia also became anxious, “Mommy, is Sister Mianmian missing?”
Zhuo Le could tell.
“Sister Bai.” Zhuo Le greeted Bai Hui.
Bai Hui, like a headless fly, ran towards Zhuo Le, “Xiao Le, Mianmian is missing. Everyone said they didn’t see her. How could they not see her? She was such a big person, following the crowd. How could they not see her?”
Bai Hui was going crazy, speaking incoherently.
Zhuo Le squeezed her hand, “Sister Bai, calm down. Mianmian will be fine, don’t worry.”
Bai Hui’s hand, held by Zhuo Le, was cold and trembling.
“Really, will she be okay?”
“Of course, trust me.”
Bai Hui gave a wry smile, took a deep breath, and said with red eyes, “I got off the train with the crowd, shouting loudly for Mianmian. I heard her crying, but it gradually disappeared.
Although Mianmian is willful and has a small temper, she is very timid and won’t go too far away from me. As long as she gets out of the crowd, she will stand somewhere and wait for me.
But she’s not there, she’s not anywhere. She wouldn’t leave on her own, something must have happened.
It’s my fault, it’s all my fault for not taking good care of her. What should I do? What should I do?”
Bai Hui cried so hard that she couldn’t catch her breath. Indeed, the child wouldn’t run away on her own.
“Don’t worry, have you told the station staff?”
Bai Hui shook her head, “I came out to find Mianmian, I didn’t have time to say.”
“Okay, it’s okay, we’ll go find the staff now and ask them to help broadcast.
Then call the police and ask them to help find the child.
We’ll definitely find her back.”
Bai Hui nodded and hurried to find the staff.
They broadcast for a long time, and some people helped to search the station, but there was no one.
The police also came. After questioning, they initially suspected that she had encountered human traffickers.
But the other party left so quickly, without leaving any trace, they must not be alone, and it might not be so easy to find them.
Bai Hui was crying and almost fainted.
Zhuo Le sighed. There were so many human traffickers in this era. She had encountered two groups in just two or three days.
But on the train, she really couldn’t tell who the human traffickers were.
The police went to find people, and Bai Hui was alone here. Zhuo Le couldn’t leave directly, so she had to stay and accompany her.
“Sister Bai, do you want to notify your family?”
Bai Hui shook her head, “Mianmian’s father is away on a business trip, even if I notify him, he can’t come back. Mianmian’s grandparents are old and in poor health, what if they get sick from the shock?
As for others, I don’t know who to turn to, I can’t find anyone who can help.”
As she spoke, she burst into tears, because of fear and anxiety, and also because of grievance and helplessness.
Zhuo Le was a little surprised, she didn’t expect such an intellectual and reserved woman to be able to cry so unrestrainedly.
