Chapter 30: School Starts
“Mom, are we going to keep Afu?”
Wei Xiaojia opened his eyes in the morning and found a dog in the house, the Border Collie Afu he had seen during filming.
The dog had followed Zhuo Le home last night and couldn’t be driven away.
Every time you tried to chase it away, it would tuck its tail between its legs and whimper, looking at you with pitiful, helpless doggy eyes.
Afu was also covered in bone-deep wounds, so pitiful that Zhuo Le, being so soft-hearted, couldn’t bear to refuse, so she had to bring it home.
As for keeping it, Zhuo Le wasn’t sure. Keeping a pet depends on fate, and she felt that her fate with Afu hadn’t reached that point yet. She would take care of it for now.
“Let Afu stay at home for now. After breakfast, we’ll take it to see a doctor. Son, share some of your milk with Afu.”
“Okay, Mom.” Wei Xiaojia saved some of his rations and carefully fed them to Afu.
Afu wasn’t shy at all and was naturally close to the two people and one dog in Zhuo Le’s family. Even though Shanda Wang scared it so much that it wanted to pee every time, it still felt that Shanda Wang was family.
After eating Wei Xiaojia’s food, it would rub against Wei Xiaojia’s hand to express its gratitude, so cute.
After eating and drinking, the family got ready and went out to find a place for Afu to see a doctor.
After asking the elderly neighbors, they learned that the Animal Medical College of Dongzhou City Agricultural University had opened a small animal clinic, where Afu could have its injuries treated.
It was a bit far, requiring two bus transfers, so Zhuo Le simply took a taxi.
It cost her ten yuan, expensive.
Fortunately, the place was easy to find, right next to the university, a fairly large clinic.
There were quite a few pet owners these years, and many people and cats and dogs were going in and out.
Zhuo Le held Afu, wrapped in an old sheet, and took Wei Xiaojia and Shanda Wang inside.
“Ah…”
The sharp scream startled the two people and one dog, who quickly withdrew their outstretched legs. What was wrong? Was their posture entering the door wrong?
“Quick, quickly throw that dirty dog out. Who knows where it came from, does it have any infectious diseases? What if it infects my baby? Get it out, quickly get it out.”
A woman dressed in a wealthy manner pointed at Afu, her shock mixed with disgust.
She tightly protected the snow-white Pomeranian in her arms.
The way she was backing away showed that she was really afraid that Afu would infect her baby with a disease.
Everyone… she just loved dogs, what was wrong with that?
Zhuo Le stepped inside, “Don’t be afraid, Afu doesn’t have any infectious diseases. It’s just that it’s a bit tough. Any delicate little creature is easily overwhelmed by it. Any cutie that stays in the same space with it for more than three minutes will either choke to death while drinking water, fall to death while walking, or be drowned by the owner’s love.”
The woman…
Stared with wide eyes, a look of “what the hell are you talking about?” on her face.
But she believed it, her lips moved slightly, but she didn’t say anything harsh, just glared at Zhuo Le and left angrily.
“Pfft…” Not many believed it, but everyone else except the woman laughed.
“How is this dog so badly injured?”
A nurse came over and frowned deeply when she saw Afu’s condition.
Zhuo Le shook her head, “I found it on the road.”
The nurse understood, “It’s probably with the group of dogs from the rescue station. Damn dog abuser, put it up here.”
Zhuo Le nodded, thinking that the rescue station should have sent the dogs here as well.
Currently, the only animal hospital in Dongzhou City is here, there’s nowhere else to go.
The medical staff had already gained experience in treating the dogs from the rescue station. Several people divided the work and shaved Afu clean, cleaned it, applied medicine, and stitched it up in one go.
Shanda Wang silently shrank its presence. A hairless dog is really ugly.
Zhuo Le paid the medical bill, preparing to leave.
When Afu saw them leaving, it struggled to get up, ignoring its wounds and the anesthesia, wanting to follow. Its doggy eyes were even filled with tears.
This…
Let’s take it back. It’s just one more dog mouth to feed.
Zhuo Le spent another ten yuan to take the hairless Afu home. In the future, she would have to spend several more ten-yuan bills for medicine and follow-up visits, which made her heart ache just thinking about it.
While Afu was recovering from its injuries, the two people and one dog weren’t idle either. They were also recovering, eating and drinking every day, living a better life than the patient.
August 28th was the day to register for school.
Wei Xiaojia, who had gained a bit of weight, was eager to try.
Zhuo Le had already scouted the school. Turn right when you go out, and it’s a ten-minute walk.
It was a fairly large kindergarten, with small, medium, and large classes, each age group having five classes. The children in the surrounding area basically went to school here.
He Fan Cheng had helped to transfer all kinds of documents, food relations, and household registration.
Today was not a school day, just registration.
The little guy was dressed neatly and cleanly, looking particularly energetic.
Leaving Afu at home, the two people and one dog set off.
In the huge community, you rarely saw any children on ordinary days, but when it came time for school to start, there were children everywhere, so noisy.
Whether they were familiar or not, as long as they saw a child next to them, they would greet them enthusiastically.
Zhuo Le had already walked on a parallel line with two mothers of children around the same age of four. They were discussing the principal and teachers of Sunflower Kindergarten, who was good, who was patient, and who was talented.
Zhuo Le smiled. She had only scouted the location of the school.
Wei Xiaojia’s smile was much more genuine than his mother’s. He seemed to have made friends. His friends liked him and Shanda Wang, and the little thing was smiling like it was worthless.
One little fatty, one little glasses.
Thinking about such a small child wearing glasses gave her a headache.
There weren’t that many mobile phones, TVs, or technological products in this era, so how could there be such small glasses?
Zhuo Le kept looking at the little glasses, and the more she looked, the more her head hurt.
Fan Lianlian noticed Zhuo Le’s gaze and sighed helplessly, “My son’s is hereditary. His dad has high myopia. We’ve seen many doctors, but there’s no way to fix it. Even such small glasses have to be specially made, which is expensive and troublesome. It’s really worrying.”
Zhuo Le learned for the first time that nearsightedness could also be hereditary, “Was he nearsighted from birth?”
Fan Lianlian shook her head, “I don’t know. We didn’t know if he could see us clearly when he was little. It was probably around a year and a half old that we noticed he liked to get very close to things when he looked at them. We took him to get checked and found out he was nearsighted. The doctor said it was very likely hereditary, after all, he didn’t have the ability to make himself nearsighted.”
Xu Duo asked, “Has his prescription increased?”
Fan Lianlian, “We’ve controlled it pretty well. I always give him various things to eat that are good for his eyes, so his prescription hasn’t increased.”
That’s good.
The women chatted and laughed as they arrived at the kindergarten gate. Oh my god, there were crowds of people, and there was also a shocking piece of news: there were too many young children who wanted to study, so there would be an exam.
The mothers were anxious.
Zhuo Le was even more anxious. She saw the woman standing at the head of the enrollment line. Wasn’t this the rich lady who loved her baby?
She was also the rich woman principal that the little fatty’s and little glasses’ mothers had mentioned, who ran the school not for money but to pass the time.
Zhuo Le was silent for a moment, then looked at Wei Xiaojia, “Son, you’re in danger.”
Wei Xiaojia was short and couldn’t see anything.
???
They lined up according to age group, three to four years old in one line, five to six years old in one line, and six to seven years old in one line.
Those who were seven years old didn’t need to line up and should go to the line next door.
Zhuo Le stood in the line, moving forward little by little with the crowd, thinking that she should just disappear. Anyway, Wei Xiaojia was short, and that rich lady might not have seen him that day.
Besides, it had been so long, and he was such a small person, she probably wouldn’t remember him if she saw him.
She had calculated everything, but she had overlooked Shanda Wang, the dog.
How could a dog lover forget a dog?
Yan Su’s big eyes had long locked onto Shanda Wang, and as a result, Zhuo Le and her son had been dug out from the depths of her memory.
Heh, she had run into her hands, hadn’t she?
