After forcefully breaking free from Lu Jiangting, Lin Yuyao went inside to get some money, then took her bicycle and headed towards town.
“Where are you going?” Lu Jiangting grabbed the handlebars of her bicycle.
Lin Yuyao said angrily, “I won’t marry you. I don’t want to have anything to do with you for the rest of my life.”
Lu Jiangting’s eyes were bloodshot, “So you’re going to call Old Zhou and ask him to send back our marriage certificate, right?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t even think about it. It’s too late to say anything now. He called me yesterday to say that our marriage certificate was sent out the day it was issued and should be on its way back.”
What?
Terror filled Lin Yuyao’s eyes, which were brimming with tears. The bizarre dream suddenly appeared clearly in her mind, becoming completely tangible. It didn’t seem like a dream; it was something she had personally experienced.
That woman who toiled her whole life, helplessly watching her husband shelter others from the wind and rain while she suffered, a woman who was betrayed by her daughter in old age… was her.
At that moment, she seemed to be on the verge of death again, hearing her daughter’s relieved voice.
“My mother is finally dead. Dad, you can marry her now. Now that my mother is dead, you don’t have to feel guilty anymore. We have decades left, our family should live a good life.”
Immense sadness and resentment washed over her. She felt her heart stop and completely lost consciousness.
…
When she woke up, she first smelled the pungent smell of disinfectant, even stronger than the smell she had smelled before she died in her past life. Opening her eyes, she realized she was in the town clinic.
Thankfully, she was still herself, not her past self.
She must have fainted from anger because of Lu Jiangting.
Lin Yuyao tried to sit up but found an IV needle inserted in the back of her hand. Her head was heavy, and her legs felt weak; it was extremely uncomfortable.
Forget it, it’s already halfway done. I’ll just lie down.
Just as she lay down, she heard voices from the next bed.
“When are we going home?”
“That depends on you.”
“It’s just a sprain, not a break.”
“Hah.”
“At worst, get me a cane. I don’t want to stay here, I want to go home.”
Lin Yuyao recognized the voices; they were Lu Jiangting’s two friends, Yi Yunshuo and Fu Huayi.
It seemed Yi Yunshuo had injured his foot?
She had heard them say they were going hiking a few days ago. Did they fall and injure their leg while hiking?
A nurse walked in, “Don’t make noise. Look at your swollen foot; you can’t walk now. The doctor said you need to rest for a day.”
“My leg is fine! Can’t I hop on one leg?”
Nurse: …
“Why won’t you listen? Suit yourself; if it breaks, it’s your fault.”
“Hey, hey, why are you cursing people?”
The nurse was annoyed, threw the medicine aside for him to apply himself, and then pushed her cart to the next bed.
There were two beds separated by a curtain.
The clinic’s facilities were limited; having a curtain between the beds was already quite good.
“Ms. Lin, you’re awake?”
Lin Yuyao nodded slightly.
“There’s another bottle after this one. I’ll hang it up for you now. Once this bottle is finished, call me, and I’ll change it for you.”
“Thank you, but can I stop the IV? I feel better now.”
The nurse’s face instantly fell.
“Why are you all so stubborn? If you’re better, why are you still in the hospital? The medicine is already prepared; if you don’t take it, it’s a waste! Medical resources are so scarce; wasting them is shameful, do you understand?”
Lin Yuyao didn’t dare to say anything after being scolded.
The nurse hung up the medicine, grumbling, and pushed the cart away.
Then, the curtain next door was lifted, and two half-bodies appeared.
“Hey, it’s you!”
What a small world!
Lin Yuyao smiled awkwardly.
“What a coincidence; you got scolded too.”
Lin Yuyao: “…”
Fu Huayi looked at the IV bag hanging above her head, “Are you sick?”
“Maybe,” Lin Yuyao was listless and answered casually.
“Maybe?” Yi Yunshuo chuckled, “You’re on an IV drip, how can it be ‘maybe’?”
Lin Yuyao twitched her lips, “Yeah, I’m on an IV drip, isn’t that obvious?”
Fu Huayi: … Now it was his turn to be embarrassed.
“Ahem, why are you here alone? Where’s your family?”
“I don’t know.”
“Who brought you here?”
Lin Yuyao thought Lu Jiangting had made her faint, he was the only one around at the time, so he must have brought her here. Now she didn’t know where he had gone or whether her parents knew.
“I don’t know,” she shook her head again.
Yi Yunshuo: “How can you not know anything? You don’t even know who brought you here?”
“Yeah,” she really didn’t know, “Maybe Lu Jiangting.”
The two: …
Fu Huayi: “…”
Yi Yunshuo: “…”
“We’ve been here for a while and haven’t seen him.”
Yi Yunshuo hesitated and then…
“Are you still planning to be with him?” Yi Yunshuo asked.
“No, I…” The thought that the marriage certificate might have been issued made her furious. Even if they had a marriage certificate, she intended to get a divorce.
What did a military marriage matter? She would find a way to end it.
She looked at Fu Huayi and asked, “Last time you said you would help me; is that still true?”
Yi Yunshuo chimed in, “Help you with what?”
Fu Huayi gazed at her pale yet still beautiful face, a strange feeling flashing through his mind.
He had heard Lu Jiangting say that beautiful women came from their hometown, but at the time, he hadn’t believed it. How beautiful could those girls from the countryside be, working under the sun and wind? Having seen it these past few days, it was indeed true.
The girls working in the mountains were all so fresh and lovely.
This girl in front of him was even more so.
He had claimed that his fiancée was the prettiest in ten miles, and he hadn’t been wrong.
Fu Huayi opened his mouth, his voice a bit hoarse, “I will help you. Have you made your decision?”
Lin Yuyao’s eyes remained watery as she bit her lip and nodded, “Yes, I want a divorce.”
Fu Huayi took a deep breath, “Have you discussed it with him? It would be best if he agrees.”
“He doesn’t agree; we’ve already discussed it.”
Fu Huayi frowned slightly, “That could be a bit troublesome, but don’t worry. Since I promised you, I will help you.”
“Thank you.”
Lin Yuyao sincerely thanked him. Even though she had memories from her past life, she hardly understood the process of divorce and didn’t know whom to ask for help. If someone familiar with military procedures could assist her, it would undoubtedly make things much easier.
“Lu Jiangting has made those mistakes. You need to tell me everything, just borrowing money won’t be enough.”
Lin Yuyao replied, “He’s also been messing around with Fang Qing. Yesterday was Fang Qing’s son’s birthday, and he spent it with them.” She paused.
“The whole village was talking about it, claiming that Fang Qing’s son called him “Dad.” Not only did he play the role of a father for Fang Qing’s son for a day, but he also acted as a man for Fang Qing.” Tears flow in her eyes.
