Uncle Zhou returned their documents in front of them.
In front of them, he tore up the stamped courtship report, physical examination report, and political review documents into pieces.
Lu Jiangting’s hope finally died.
He didn’t know how he got back; holding the yellow file, he walked like a zombie back to the dormitory.
His mind was blank; nothing was there.
His roommate Liu Anguo came back from work and saw Lu Jiangting sitting dazedly on his bed.
“Jiangting.”
Lu Jiangting didn’t respond; perhaps he didn’t hear him.
“Jiangting?”
He still didn’t respond.
Liu Anguo waved his hand in front of his face.
“Lu Jiangting, what are you doing?”
Lu Jiangting looked at him blankly; his eyes were frighteningly red, startling Liu Anguo.
Liu Anguo, who had wanted to tease him, was stunned.
“What’s wrong? Jiangting, what happened?”
Lu Jiangting suddenly came to his senses; his grip on the file tightened.
Liu Anguo looked down at what he was holding, asking, “What’s this?”
Lu Jiangting didn’t say anything, didn’t say what it was.
Fu Huayi, passing by their door, mentioned it.
“Got the documents back?”
Lu Jiangting: “…”
Fu Huayi felt a little smug, but he hid it well; his face remained cold.
“Judging by your expression, you must have gotten them back.”
Lu Jiangting was furious; he threw the file on the bed and lunged at him. Liu Anguo saw what was happening and quickly grabbed Lu Jiangting’s waist.
“Hey, Jiangting, what are you doing?”
Lu Jiangting stared at Fu Huayi with bloodshot eyes, gritting his teeth, “Are you happy? Are you happy? Do you think that once she breaks up with me, she’ll fall for you? You’re dreaming.”
It was just after work; soon, a crowd gathered to watch.
But hearing his incoherent words, everyone was confused.
Fu Huayi’s knuckles cracked.
Yi Yunshuo stopped him before he could fight Lu Jiangting; like Liu Anguo, he held him tightly.
“Ah Yi, Brother Yi, he’s almost mad; it’s normal for him to speak without thinking. We’re happy; let’s not bother with him.”
He thought that if they fought here, it would be a big deal. Both of them would be punished. If they really disliked each other, they could fight secretly outside; they shouldn’t fight here.
It wasn’t worth it.
Hearing Yi Yunshuo’s words, Fu Huayi loosened his fist.
Yes, he couldn’t fight Lu Jiangting here.
Of course, it wasn’t that he was afraid of Lu Jiangting.
Once things escalated, the reason for the fight would be investigated.
This would damage Lin Yuyao’s reputation; that’s what he was afraid of.
Fu Huayi retracted his fist and returned to the next room without a word.
As soon as they entered the room, Yi Yunshuo quickly closed and locked the door.
He whispered, “Ah Yi, did Lu Jiangting really not get a marriage certificate with Xiao Lin?”
“Yes, judging by his appearance, he should have gotten the documents back.”
Yi Yunshuo clapped his hands, “Oh, look at him, his eyes are red like a rabbit; he must have cried from anger.”
Yi Yunshuo thought it made sense; remembering his appearance, he felt a little pity.
No, why should he feel pity? He deserved it.
“Definitely, not getting married, and getting the documents back, that’s why he’s so angry. Okay, Okay.”
Fu Huayi was in a good mood; he even smiled.
“Ah Yi, let’s go to the cafeteria for dinner.”
“What cafeteria? Let’s go out for a good meal; I’m treating you.”
“Okay, okay, Brother Yi is so generous. Let’s go quickly; it’s getting late.”
They left the room one after the other.
Compared to Fu Huayi’s happiness, Lu Jiangting in the next room was truly crying from anger. He was unwilling; he and Yuyao had been together for so many years; their relationship ended just like that.
But he was helpless.
Could he really ignore Fang Qing and her child?
He couldn’t be an ungrateful person; so, he really couldn’t refuse Fang Qing.
Liu Anguo brought him his dinner; seeing him still sitting there in a daze, he sighed.
“No matter what, you have to eat.”
He handed the food box to Lu Jiangting.
Lu Jiangting looked at it for a moment before taking it.
During the meal, Liu Anguo hesitated several times; when he was almost finished, he finally couldn’t help but speak.
“So, it’s really because of Fu Huayi that my sister-in-law changed her mind at the last minute?”
Lu Jiangting didn’t say anything; he didn’t admit or deny it.
Liu Anguo naturally assumed that Lu Jiangting had acquiesced.
He felt disgusted with sister-in-law, whom he had never met.
He thought that Lu Jiangting wasn’t as good as Fu Huayi, the son of a high-ranking official, but Lu Jiangting was also very excellent.
Those of them from the countryside had to work harder to get into the same school as Fu Huayi.
He didn’t think they were inferior to Fu Huayi.
But that woman actually changed her mind as soon as she saw Fu Huayi.
This is really…
Liu Anguo patted Lu Jiangting’s shoulder, “Jiangting, there are many good women in the world; why cling to a woman who’s only interested in money? Forget about her; I’ll introduce you to a better one tomorrow.”
Lu Jiangting chuckled bitterly, “You’re still single yourself; where are you going to introduce someone from?”
Liu Anguo: “…”
Besides, no matter how many people he introduced, none of them would be Yuyao.
He only wanted Yuyao.
Lu Jiangting had never felt such a strong feeling before.
Today, he got his documents back; the application materials were torn to shreds by Uncle Zhou in front of them; he felt Yuyao was too far away for him to reach. He realized that the past, scene after scene, heartache after heartache, her crying, her laughter, were all engraved in his mind, forever unforgettable.
He really wanted her.
…
Lin Yuyao, having retrieved her documents, was in a good mood; she quickly exchanged some coins to call home, eagerly sharing the news.
Lin Yuyao’s parents learned that she had gotten her documents back, that the courtship report and review reports were all torn to shreds; the big stone in their hearts finally fell.
“FINALLY! Finally, it’s over.”
Back in the village, they spread the news far and wide, saying that they hadn’t gotten married, that the documents were torn up, and that their family and the Lu family had nothing to do with each other anymore.
They hoped that their neighbors wouldn’t mention the Lu family’s affairs to them again. They could continue supporting Lu Jiangting’s son; it had nothing to do with them. Lin Dawei and his wife were quite happy, but some neighbors who didn’t understand felt it was a pity.
“Lu Jiangting is tall, handsome, and talented; what a pity.”
“Yes, he’s a college graduate; his family’s merit certificates filled a wall; I heard he graduated from a military academy and became an officer right after graduation. To break off the engagement like this… I wonder who’s lucky enough to get him.”
