After No Longer Being A Substitute, He Eloped With Her Former Sister-In-Law Chapter 1

Chapter 1: No Longer a Substitute

“Jiang Yu is coming back…”

In the living room, Lin Che, who was mopping the floor, visibly froze.

Qin Wei leaned against the sofa, wearing a blue nightgown, her skin as white as snow and her face stunningly beautiful. She looked at Lin Che with a gaze that was almost entirely indifferent.

Seeing that Lin Che didn’t respond, Qin Wei assumed he was reluctant to leave.

“These five years, I’ve given you more than enough. Don’t be too greedy.”

“A substitute should act like a substitute. There’s 200,000 in this card. Keep your mouth shut, and move out within a week.”

“I don’t need a week. I’ll leave tonight.” Lin Che put down the mop and pointed at the silver card on the coffee table. “Please transfer the money in the card to me directly and note that it’s a voluntary gift.”

This time, Qin Wei was the one who was stunned. She hadn’t expected Lin Che to agree so readily. With a cold expression, she took out her phone and made the transfer.

In less than two minutes, Lin Che’s phone buzzed with a notification that 200,000 had been credited to his account.

This day had finally come.

From the very beginning, Lin Che knew he was just a substitute. He was clear about his goals: he didn’t need her face, but he had to take the money.

Lin Che didn’t pay attention to Qin Wei’s expression. After receiving the money, he threw the mop aside and said, “I’m going back to my room to pack my things.”

Although he had lived here for nearly five years, the things that belonged to him were few. Most of them were bought by Qin Wei.

In terms of material things, Qin Wei had never shortchanged him. She had let him live in a large apartment, and besides the initial two million for keeping him, she would give him tips daily. She would also have clothes and various accessories custom-made for him. Even a simple cufflink or tie would cost five figures.

In the living room, Qin Wei heard the sound of him packing inside and felt a surge of anger. She was inexplicably irritated.

She had thought Lin Che would beg her to stay, but she hadn’t expected that a mere 200,000 would send him off so easily.

In her view, Lin Che should have been deeply in love with her and reluctant to leave. Yet, it seemed he was quite eager to go.

Had he not considered that without her, who would provide him with resources? His sister’s high medical expenses at the rehabilitation center were all paid by her. With his current salary, could he afford it?

Qin Wei put down her legs, stood up, and delivered a threat, “These clothes I spent money to have custom-made for you, you’re not allowed to take them. Even if I throw them away, I won’t give them to you!”

Lin Che, who had been planning to pack them up and sell them, could only retract his hand.

In the end, besides the few items he had bought himself, there wasn’t much left. Over the past five years, the things he could take with him were pitifully few.

By the time he finished packing, it was already eleven o’clock at night. Qin Wei was still sitting on the sofa. When she saw Lin Che carrying the suitcase out, she narrowed her eyes slightly but didn’t move. “You’re done so quickly?”

Lin Che put down the suitcase and said, “Miss Qin, do you want to check it?”

The woman’s gaze fell on the suitcase. It was so small that it couldn’t hold much even if it were packed to the brim.

Why did she feel so frustrated when she was the one who wanted to get rid of him?

Qin Wei wanted Lin Che to back down when faced with difficulties. If he didn’t want to leave and begged her to let him stay, she could have arranged another place for him to live. After all, raising a dog wasn’t too much for her.

Qin Wei stared at his face intensely, wanting to see if he was unhappy. “Lin Che, don’t you have anything else to say to me?”

Lin Che immediately stated, “Miss Qin, rest assured. Over these five years, I’ll act as if nothing happened. We are just strangers. I won’t appear in front of you on my own, and I won’t get in the way of you and Mr. Jiang.”

Qin Wei snorted coldly, “You’re quite sensible.”

Lin Che smiled inwardly: If he weren’t sensible, he would have died long ago.

Seeing his obedient expression, Qin Wei’s eyes gradually showed a hint of mockery. She casually lowered her gaze, seemingly indifferent, “Lin Che, once you step out of this door, don’t regret it. It won’t be easy to come back in the future.”

She was the one who told him to leave, and now she was telling him not to regret it. Lin Che responded with a simple “Alright.”

Then, he dragged the suitcase with one hand, closed the door with the other, and left without looking back. The moment the door closed, the gaze that had been stuck to him finally disappeared.

He couldn’t help but smile, feeling relieved and lighter. Looking at the trash can by the door, he touched the earrings on his ears…

He almost forgot about these.

He took off the earrings and threw them directly into the trash can.

The earrings weren’t valuable; they were handmade by Qin Wei four years ago and given to him. At that time, he didn’t have any ear piercings. To wear these five earrings, Qin Wei had personally used a needle to pierce his ears for him.

A few days after the piercing, his ears became inflamed. They were red, swollen, and oozing pus. Every time he took off the earrings to apply medicine and disinfect, it hurt so much that he winced.

Qin Wei never allowed him to take off these five earrings. To him, they were shackles, a leash, constantly reminding him that he was just a substitute. Now, he finally didn’t have to wear these ugly earrings anymore. Throwing them away felt like unlocking many chains. At this moment, he realized he was free.

Lin Che dragged the suitcase downstairs and used a ride-hailing app to call a car. It wasn’t rush hour, so the driver arrived quickly.

The security guard at the entrance recognized Lin Che and asked curiously, “Mr. Lin, where are you going at this hour?”

Lin Che put the suitcase in the trunk and waved at the security guard with a smile, “I’m moving. I won’t be living here anymore. Goodbye.”

He got in the car and gave the driver the last four digits of his phone number. The car slowly drove away.

The navigation system timely reminded him, “Please choose to turn around at a suitable intersection. Your route has been successfully planned…”
