Chapter 15: It’s High-Tech, Not Feudal Superstition!
Finally freed from the ticket-selling post, Gu Wang could at last patrol the park at any time and oversee the various situations.
As for Hong Hui and her daughter, Gu Wang gave Hong Hui a talisman that would allow her to see the Bone Child for a week.
With the talisman in her hand, Hong Hui took the Bone Child to the city center. She wanted to buy her precious daughter lots of toys, new clothes, and plenty of food. She aimed to make up for all the love her daughter had missed out on over the years.
After a few peaceful days, one morning, Gu Wang received a call from Zhou Tong.
This girl had just recently started enjoying university life, but she hadn’t forgotten her roots and still remembered to promote the amusement park.
She said, “Master Gu, I have a senior in my department who’s interning at Yaoguang City TV. They will film a city scenic promotional video soon, and I recommended our amusement park to her. My senior agreed. Do you need to inform the boss in advance?”
She still thought Gu Wang was working part-time!
Gu Wang hesitated, feeling that this matter was hard to explain, so he just said, “Come on over, the boss is fine with it.”
They set an appointment for three days later.
That evening, after work, Gu Wang walked into the Embroidered Building, followed by the graceful fox.
Of course, he also had a name; his clan name was Chi Jing.
The moment he stepped through the door, Gu Wang found his leg hugged.
Looking down, it was the little Bone Child.
Hong Hui had returned just as the talisman was about to expire.
Gu Wang stroked the Bone Child’s shiny head, smiling. “Is there something you need me for?”
The Bone Child looked back at her mother.
Hong Hui, with a benevolent and encouraging smile, nodded to her.
The little Bone Child clenched her tiny fist and softly said to Gu Wang, “Brother Gu, baby… baby wants to apply for a job too!”
Gu Wang understood and looked at Hong Hui. “You want her to stay here with me? You don’t want to take her with you?”
Hong Hui: “Xiaobao wants to stay herself. She said there’s delicious Yin energy here. As for me… now that I know she’s here, I’m at ease. I’ll come to visit her often.”
The little Bone Child was also eager to recommend herself. “Brother Gu, baby can do illusions too, and beat up bad guys. Baby will be obedient…”
How could Gu Wang refuse?! Though young, the Bone Child was a rare Yin entity that could operate during the day without relying on high cultivation.
With a manifestation talisman, she was a ready-made NPC, a great help. He quickly reassured her, “Baby, no rush. Brother promises you can stay, and I’ll give you a salary: a wisp of Yin energy every month.”
It had been almost a month since opening, so Gu Wang also looked up and told the Candle Maiden and the others, “Today is payday for us. From now on, today’s date every month will be payday.”
With that, he raised his hand, and several wisps of Yin energy flew out, drifting towards the employees. He could now control small amounts of Yin energy.
The Candle Maiden and Lamp Shadow Hag received an extra half-wisp as a bonus.
The little Bone Child hadn’t started working yet, so her salary was advanced, but none of them would quibble with a child.
The employees were delighted to receive the Yin energy.
The Yin energy from Gu Wang was unlike ordinary Yin energy.
For them, ordinary Yin energy was like chicken soup, but Gu Wang’s was like chicken soup fortified with ginseng, deer antler, cordyceps, and dragon meat—one spoonful was stronger than six!
One by one, they eagerly absorbed it, their expressions utterly satisfied.
With less self-control, Sun Fei almost let out a pig’s squeal.
Chi Jing, who had been silent at the back, suddenly spoke up when he caught a whiff of the Yin energy. “They all get salaries, why don’t I?”
Gu Wang looked at him, thinking, What are you messing around for? You’re not a Yin entity.
Chi Jing ignored him and stubbornly insisted, “You don’t care if I’m a Yin entity or not; I want it! Give it to me now!”
As his voice fell, the candlelight on the table suddenly turned red, the shadows on the wall flickered, Sun Fei’s nails grew longer inch by inch, and even the Bone Child’s eye sockets emitted wisps of black energy.
The group turned to stare at Chi Jing.
The Candle Maiden gently said, “You should be polite to the park director.”
Chi Jing: “…”
A good fox knows when to bend and stretch. He plopped down into a “duck sit,” collapsing onto the ground, and covered his mouth delicately, “Director, this one wants Yin energy too!”
Gu Wang: “…” He began to reflect. Isn’t it just a wisp of Yin energy? I have enough Yin energy to sustain the entire underworld. Why endure this suffering…
A wisp of Yin energy flew before him.
Chi Jing nimbly scrambled up, not even bothering to dust off his butt, grabbed it, and stuffed it into his mouth. He could feel that although he wasn’t a Yin entity, this Yin energy was immensely beneficial to him.
Indeed, as soon as the Yin energy entered his belly, it transformed into abundant energy, his demonic qi surged by a small increment, and even his demonic core solidified a bit.
Such a good thing, to get a wisp every month… Recalling the increasingly low shapeshifting success rate within his clan, Chi Jing secretly began to scheme.
After enjoying their salaries, Gu Wang took the Bone Child out to prepare her exclusive scenario.
Being young, as soon as she heard “exclusive scenario,” the Bone Child softly expressed her desire for a maze, the kind she could play hide-and-seek in.
Gu Wang once again took out the Snake Core, injecting spiritual energy into it.
A dense white mist dispersed, as if a map was being unlocked—two white gravel paths extended from the entrance and the Embroidered Building, both converging here.
A wooden maze slowly emerged from the ground, covering over two hundred square meters.
Some black vines climbed up the wooden walls, and the entrance gate was shaped like a tombstone, faintly revealing some unclear patterns.
When tapped with a finger bone, the wooden walls would make a rattling sound.
As she walked nearby, the black vines playfully entangled her tiny feet.
The little Bone Child loved this place so much.
She ran to the center of the maze. Black mist emerged from her seven orifices, quickly filling the entire maze.
After enjoying her salary, she had even more black energy. The entire maze was shrouded in faint black mist, making it even more mysterious.
The little one excitedly ran around again, bringing in all the toys her mother had bought her and carefully decorating the corners.
The black maze now had a touch of eerie childishness, looking quite adorable at a glance.
Seeing the little one bustling about, Hong Hui’s eyes couldn’t help but well up.
Whether human or Yin entity, as long as she saw her daughter happy, she was willing to do anything. She turned and bowed deeply to Gu Wang.
Then, without waiting for Gu Wang to help her up, she straightened herself and said goodbye. She needed to go back to keep working hard and climbing higher.
She wanted to protect her daughter.
She also hoped to be able to help the amusement park in the future.
She had a feeling that Master Gu’s amusement park wouldn’t be limited to Yaoguang City; it would definitely spread across the country, even around the world.
Soon, the appointed time arrived, and Zhou Tong brought her senior colleague.
The taxi pulled up to the entrance. Zhou Tong stepped out first, then a stunning young woman in professional attire followed, and finally, a cameraman with a camera.
Zhou Tong introduced the parties. “This is my senior, Tong Qianqian, interning at Yaoguang City TV. And this is the cameraman, Liu Peng.”
Gu Wang’s gaze lingered on Liu Peng’s face for a moment, his fingers twitching. He smiled at Tong Qianqian and said, “Welcome, friends from the TV station.”
Tong Qianqian was very outgoing. She immediately waved her hand. “No, no, don’t listen to Tongtong. I’m just an intern right now. This plan is to film a city promotional video. What I film might not even be aired, and even if it is, it’ll only be for ten or so seconds. Tongtong said you helped her before, but I might not be able to help you this time, so please don’t mind!”
Gu Wang chuckled. “Of course not. It’s great that you’re willing to come and play.”
The group walked to the amusement park entrance.
Tong Qianqian clicked her tongue in amazement at the imposing stone tablet, then heard a tourist nearby exclaim, “Holy cow! It’s Big Shot Zhou Tong!”
Zhou Tong herself was bewildered. “Huh? Are they calling me?”
A group of girls from an entire dormitory, playing nearby, waved at her. “Yes, yes! Big Shot, your video was the first clear of the Embroidered Building scenario! It’s been stickied on the Yaoguang University forum for a month now!”
Zhou Tong couldn’t help but laugh wryly. She hadn’t checked the forum lately and truly didn’t know about this.
Surprisingly, she, the first clear player, was quite well-known.
People around the park greeted her, and Tong Qianqian even teased her about it.
And the scenery of the amusement park truly captivated everyone. Tong Qianqian couldn’t stop praising how beautiful it was! Liu Peng, meanwhile, was diligently filming, following behind the group.
When they strolled by the Embroidered Building, the door suddenly burst open, and a group of people ran out.
The leading boy, who was carrying a white girl, excitedly shouted as he ran, “We saved Miss Li! Hahaha! We cleared it! Where’s the embroiderer? Where’s the embroiderer?”
The seasoned tourists nearby already exchanged sympathetic glances. On the boy’s back, Miss Li lifted her face, her pale expression blank, and her hand casually rested on his shoulder, revealing long black fingernails.
The companions behind the boy gasped, desperately poking him. “Quick, quick! Put her down…”
The boy looked around. “Huh? Put what down? Found the embroiderer?”
Then, a cold snort came from behind him, and his neck felt a chill, marked by a line of red paint.
According to the rules, he had just had his throat cut. Miss Li, on his back, had already risen into the air, with a faint wire glinting behind her.
She hung mid-air, sneering, “None of you will escape!”
The player group hadn’t reacted yet, but the old players around them were already screaming and running away.
The NPCs of the Embroidered Building differed from elsewhere; once they came out of it, they would indiscriminately pursue and kill everyone!
Sure enough, Miss Li went all out, instantly catching several tourists, who clutched their necks and happily collapsed.
Tong Qianqian witnessed the entire scene and clapped excitedly. “So cool! Miss NPC is so dedicated!”
She even tugged Zhou Tong. “This place is too fun! Why didn’t you tell me earlier?!”
However, at this moment, Zhou Tong was stunned, watching Miss Li soar through the air.
That face… that face… was definitely the face of the female ghost from that night! She instinctively looked at Miss Li’s shadow, and there was indeed a reflection. But whether it was just an illusion or not, when Miss Li moved, her shadow would lag behind for a moment, as if it had a life of its own.
She then carefully examined the wire floating in mid-air. The wire was curved, and unlike typical wires, it was as thin as fishing line, as if it was just for show.
Zhou Tong took a deep breath… suddenly feeling like she had discovered a huge secret…
She looked at Gu Wang, a thousand thoughts flashing through her mind, and finally couldn’t help but ask, “Um, the amusement park director is…”
There was nothing to hide about this. Gu Wang nodded. “I am the director.”
However, after he said this, he saw Zhou Tong tremble violently twice, and he couldn’t help but look at her strangely. Is this girl alright?
Zhou Tong covered her chest.
Because he’s the director, he has to go around catching ghosts to be NPCs?
That’s so touching… I dare not move!
Aren’t you a master?
Why open an amusement park?!
Wouldn’t a Taoist temple be better?!
She looked up at Miss Li. “That character…”
Gu Wang paused, then said seriously, “That’s a professionally trained NPC. I hired her with a high salary.”
Zhou Tong: “…”
She struggled fiercely. “But the female ghost…”
Gu Wang continued seriously, “The female ghost in the Embroidered Building is displayed through a cross-sensory, shared-sensation technology that blends reality and virtuality. It’s high-tech, don’t let your imagination run wild.”
Zhou Tong burst into tears. “Oh.”
