Chapter 21: Falling into a Broad and Cool Embrace (3 updates)

Gu Si: “You…”

Damn! Just thinking about that indulgent dream from last night made Gu Si stiffen all over.

His thin lips pressed into a tight line, and he coughed a few times to mask his awkwardness. Without sparing a glance at Ning Qingyan, he strode directly to the dining table and sat at the farthest seat from her, serving himself some rice.

Ning Qingyan: ?

Under Ning Qingyan’s puzzled gaze, Gu Si—who usually found joy in teasing and arguing with her—shockingly said nothing. After a brief greeting, he quickly finished breakfast and headed to the living room, lying on the single-seater sofa and pretending to focus intently on the TV.

Did the sun rise from the west today? Gu Si wasn’t acting like his usual cheeky self, refusing to bicker with her.

Curious, Ning Qingyan glanced at Gu Si, who seemed to be acting mysteriously. Feeling her gaze, Gu Si sneaked a side-eye glance at her. The moment their eyes met, he instantly turned away, staring at the TV as if she were a ferocious beast.

Ning Qingyan: …

Utterly baffled.

Not long after, the director’s voice came through the earpieces of all the guests:

“In this game, the princess and prince have been separated. You must find each other, defeat zombies, and survive until the end!”

Hints:

  1. Find your CP (compatibility partner), because everyone else is your enemy.
  2. Before eliminating zombies, teaming up with other CP teams will increase your chances of survival.
  3. The cabins may hold useful items but also dangerous surprises.

“Now, please act alone and follow your designated drones to your mission locations.”

As the director finished speaking, the living room door opened automatically, revealing eight hovering drones waiting for the guests to gather.

Live Stream Comments:

  • “OMG! This is thrilling!”
  • “Zombies? Are we still on a dating show?”
  • “It’s called Heartbeat Acceleration, so a bit of excitement makes sense, right?”
  • “Looks like the goal is to team up, defeat zombies, then turn on each other, with the last CP team standing declared the winners?”
  • “Scary vibes! The girls will get spooked, the guys will swoop in to save them, and they’ll end up hugging in fear. Loving it already!”

Following their respective drones, the guests soon arrived at individual tents set up deep within the island.

The director’s voice sounded again:

“Please enter your tents to change into your equipment, then head into the forest to find your CP partner!”

Friendly Reminder: Useful supplies can usually be found in cabins.

Inside her tent, Ning Qingyan followed instructions and changed into green camouflage gear. The tent also provided a military backpack, helmet, and a small handgun.

The backpack contained compressed biscuits, water, a first-aid kit, grenades, and smoke bombs.

According to the manual, the camouflage gear was equipped with high-tech sensory chips that worked with the gun’s red-dot targeting system. If hit, the chips would register the shot, and the earpiece would notify the wearer of either a critical injury or immediate elimination.

Ning Qingyan donned her gear and headed into the forest. The forest canopy, covered by a giant green screen, simulated the sky and allowed the director to control day and night transitions.

Grass here grew knee-high, and Ning Qingyan figured lying down in the grass could be a decent hiding strategy.

Before long, she encountered a cabin. Knowing cabins could contain either supplies or zombies, and since she wasn’t short on supplies, she decided not to open the door.

Suddenly, the mechanical voice from the earpiece echoed:

“Xu Ruanruan, OUT. Xu Ruanruan, OUT. Xu Ruanruan, OUT.”

It hadn’t been long, yet Xu Ruanruan was already eliminated. The announcement made everyone wary, and they avoided the cabins whenever possible.

Watching the guests’ reactions, the director chuckled. “Do you think you can avoid danger by staying away from the cabins?”

Moments later, the earpiece sounded again:

“Nightfall is approaching. Darkness will cover the land, and the cabin doors will automatically open in one hour. Survive as best as you can!”

Upon hearing this, everyone started running—trying to get as far away from the cabins as possible.

Ning Qingyan, however, remained calm. Peeking through cabin door cracks, she found one without zombies and spotted a sturdy tree nearby.

After scavenging the supplies inside, she climbed the tree beside the cabin. “The most dangerous place is the safest place,” she thought.

As night descended and the surroundings grew pitch-black, the growls of zombies echoed. Painted with gory effects, a few zombies passed under her tree.

Ning Qingyan held her breath, not daring to make a sound.

Suddenly, her earpiece announced:

“Sheng Mingzhu, OUT. Sheng Mingzhu, OUT. Sheng Mingzhu, OUT.”

Zombies, initially mindless, seemed to gain intelligence and began stacking into human pyramids to reach her. Ning Qingyan panicked. Just as she prepared to defend herself, she saw Huo Qi sprinting toward her direction—followed by a massive horde of zombies.

Eyes widening, Ning Qingyan shouted, “Brother, help! Over here! They’re climbing my tree—”

She quickly regretted it, realizing Huo Qi might lead even more zombies her way.

Huo Qi, hearing her cry, rushed over without hesitation. The chaos escalated as more zombies swarmed toward them.

The situation spirals into a tense, thrilling climax as Huo Qi’s cool demeanor clashes with Ning Qingyan’s chaotic energy, setting the stage for unexpected moments of teamwork, drama, and humor.
