Chapter 7: Trouble?! Someone Might Die?!
“Really? Chen Yuan dared to break up?” a male classmate beside them said in a joking tone, as though he heard a funny story.
“Exactly. Yesterday I only asked him to buy a bottle of water, and out of nowhere he wanted to break up, isn’t that right, Qiqi?” Li Ailin told the story dramatically while she tested Yu Enqi.
After receiving the other girl’s silent consent, she continued to bad-mouth Chen Yuan.
Several boys laughed and chimed in; they all knew that in Chen Yuan and Yu Enqi’s relationship, Chen Yuan was a totally henpecked boyfriend—one look from Yu Enqi made him behave.
At first they thought the couple was fun to watch, a handsome man and a pretty woman, but as time went by even outsiders like them could hardly stand it.
Chen Yuan was no boyfriend at all; he was simply a simping lapdog…
Still, whether they could stand it or not made no difference to them. Whenever they went out with Yu Enqi, she usually footed the bill; with free fun on offer, why refuse?
In the end, however, the one who actually paid might turn out to be some hapless sucker who rushed to pick up the check…
“Did he apologize to you last night, Qiqi? He even came all the way here to see you today.” Li Ailin spoke with open mockery.
“Mm.” Yu Enqi answered softly and felt nothing amiss.
To her, last night and this morning made no difference; either way he came to beg for forgiveness.
But this time the matter was serious, and she would not forgive him so easily!
“Shall we call him over?” Li Ailin leaned close and spoke in a voice only the two girls could hear.
The implied meaning was to see how he performed later—actually, they just wanted Chen Yuan to pay the bill…
Yu Enqi said nothing, yet she did not refuse.
She kept silent about anything that might look bad in public, lest it damage her good-girl image.
As her best friend, Li Ailin understood at once, then said, “You are simply too kind. If it were my boyfriend…”
So Li Ailin turned to the boys nearby and said, “You boys go call Chen Yuan over. Enqi is willing to give him a chance.”
The boys looked at one another; they were already quite practiced at fetching Chen Yuan.
Whenever they went out and Yu Enqi got drunk, they called Chen Yuan to pick her up.
Wu Kai said, “Fine, I’ll go call him.”
A blond boy with a center-parted haircut spoke, then strode off.
Yu Enqi pretended to be unconcerned, and the group waited across the street.
“Chen Yuan! You’re here to see Yu Enqi, right? Come with me.”
Wu Kai crossed the bustling street and walked up to Chen Yuan.
“?”
Chen Yuan frowned. “Who told you I’m looking for her?”
Facing Chen Yuan’s impatient tone, Wu Kai froze. “Aren’t you here to see Enqi? She’s still waiting over there.”
As he spoke, Wu Kai pointed toward the direction he had just come from.
When she saw the two of them looking over, Yu Enqi deliberately shifted her gaze elsewhere, lifting her chin slightly.
“Heh, I’m looking for my friend,” Chen Yuan said with a light laugh as he withdrew his gaze.
When he saw Yu Enqi, Li Ailin, and the others in the distance, he understood at once.
They must have thought of some new place to hang out and planned to make him pay again.
Maybe after he paid the bill they would each go home, and she would say he behaved well enough and that she forgave him—acting as though she granted him some great favor.
And the former him had even found that cute—how ridiculous…
“Ah? So you aren’t going over? Your girlfriend, Yu Enqi…” Wu Kai kept asking, feeling that Chen Yuan really did not want to go.
Was this really Chen Yuan?
That was Yu Enqi, his girlfriend!
She was the goddess he brought lunch to every single day!
Could he possibly have a friend more important than his own girlfriend?
For a moment Wu Kai hardly recognized the boy in front of him.
“I certainly won’t go over—what, so I can pay the bill? Oh yes, I already broke up with her, so she has nothing to do with me now,” Chen Yuan said flatly, waved his hand, turned, and walked away.
At most… she was just a classmate now.
“Ah… huh?” Wu Kai stood frozen. Before he could ask more, Chen Yuan had already walked several meters away.
When she looked back, Yu Enqi also saw Chen Yuan turn around and leave; anger rose in her at once.
What had Wu Kai told Chen Yuan? Why couldn’t he even get Chen Yuan to come over?
“Why did Chen Yuan just leave?”
“What did Old Wu say to him? Didn’t he tell him that Yu Enqi is here?”
“That can’t be right—they both looked this way a moment ago. Chen Yuan definitely saw us.”
“Er…”
They looked at Yu Enqi’s back and were immediately stopped by a glance from Li Ailin.
“This Wu Kai must have said something to Chen Yuan, that’s why he left. Maybe he’s gone to buy you an apology gift; after all, didn’t he apologize this morning?” Li Ailin spoke in a low voice, yet everyone nearby heard her clearly.
In the past Chen Yuan came whenever he was called. For him to disobey suddenly, and in front of everyone, made Yu Enqi lose face.
So Li Ailin patched things up on the spot.
After hearing Li Ailin, the others remembered that Chen Yuan already apologized, so the two of them should be fine.
Maybe Li Ailin was right and he went to buy a gift.
Although these thoughts were overturned after Wu Kai came back later, they would only discuss it in private and never mention it in front of Yu Enqi…
After all, she was the sponsor…
When Yu Enqi saw Chen Yuan actually turn and go, she clenched the fist hidden inside her sleeve and grew even angrier: Chen Yuan! I gave you a chance to step down, and you dare ignore me?!
You never ignored me before! So it’s true—once you boys get what you want, you stop caring!
Fine! Ignore me then. If I, Yu Enqi, so much as speak to you again, I’m a dog!!
We’ll see who bows first!
Don’t come begging me then!!
…
Night fell.
Chen Yuan went out again to keep searching for Clovie.
Father Chen and Mother Chen thought he felt bad about the breakup and simply told him to stay safe and walk around more.
He still felt rather worried about Clovie and the others who came to this world.
He was not worried about their safety, but about everyone else’s…
If they ended up killing someone in this world, he would have no way to save them…
He vaguely saw Clovie’s figure this morning, that striking head of white hair. If she were on a street like this, he would spot her at a glance.
Strangely enough, he searched all day and still didn’t find her.
Among the girls, Clovie was probably the most obedient and normal one.
Of course, she was also the most beautiful.
The first mission he completed was Clovie’s, and then he did other missions; several years separated those tasks.
It would be a lie to say he didn’t miss her.
Especially after waking up, everything he did before felt like a lifetime ago.
Therefore he truly missed her…
How could he not want to see them? These were girls he risked his life to protect; they were like his own daughters!
Although it sounded strange for a pure twenty-one-year-old college boy to say such things, the experiences he went through made him feel like an old father.
By late night Chen Yuan still didn’t find Clovie, and there were few people left on the street.
It seemed he wouldn’t find her today…
Just as he turned around and prepared to scan a shared bike to ride home…
A loud crash rang out together with a streak of blue light.
Ice Spike Technique?!
This is bad! Someone might die!!!
