Kāngnà was trembling all over, biting down hard on the soft flesh of his lip, barely managing to keep silent.
Inside the glass window, a tall and handsome female bug was picking up a piece of mango and placing it on the prince’s plate. The prince seemed to be acting cute, his rosy lips opening and closing as if he was complaining about something.
The female bug chuckled softly, a look of indulgence appearing on her face as she picked up the mango from the prince’s plate and fed it to his rosy lips.
The prince smiled contentedly, as if he was being cute, and hooked his toes around the female bug’s calf.
Kāngnà didn’t know what the female bug said, but the prince was laughing heartily, clearly amused.
Even though it was July, Kāngnà felt as if he had fallen into an ice pit, his whole body cold.
Once again, he had clearly given up on this female bug, so why did it still hurt so much to see him laughing and chatting with another male bug?
It was like a dull knife stabbing into his heart, then being pulled out little by little, leaving behind an uneven and ugly wound that bled uselessly.
Kāngnà bit down hard on his lip, recalling the past seven years, trying to find even a tiny bit of memory where Gālet had comforted him.
But after thinking for a long time, all he could recall was the female bug’s seemingly humble and polite yet actually cold and distant tone.
In despair, Kāngnà covered his face with his hands, feeling the dampness in his palms.
He rubbed his tear-streaked face with the back of his hand, but the tears kept flowing more fiercely. He turned around in a panic and ran away, sprinting far until he finally leaned against a tree, panting heavily.
Kāngnà’s mind was a mess, and he couldn’t quite understand.
Hadn’t he already given up on that bug-like Chen Shimei? Why was he still so sad? He felt so useless.
A flock of red-billed sparrows flew overhead, chirping away.
“Look at that male bug, his eyes are all red from crying.”
“Aw, so pitiful. Should we send him a gift?”
“I think that’s a good idea. Hey, poor bug, good luck to you!”
Kāngnà looked up in confusion.
Had he become so sad that he was hallucinating? How could he hear the red-billed sparrows talking?
Before he could figure it out, a flash of white light appeared in front of him. He couldn’t dodge in time, and a few drops of thick, warm, and smelly white liquid splattered onto his forehead.
Kāngnà froze all over.
Was this the legendary bird poop?
Even the little birds could see that he was the unluckiest male bug in the entire bug race?
Heh.
There probably wasn’t another human who had it this bad after turning into a male bug.
Kāngnà forced a bitter smile, tears still streaming down his face as he looked around for a restroom.
“Your Highness, we bid you farewell.”
“General, you’re too polite.” The prince smiled broadly as he stepped onto the luxurious starship adorned with royal insignia.
As the starship took off, Gālet turned and boarded the military starship, disgustedly pulling out a tissue to wipe at his spotless military pants.
“Hey, boss, you did pretty well!” The young adjutant grinned as he approached, pulling out a sandwich. “Didn’t eat enough for lunch, huh? Have a bite.”
Gālet took the sandwich and devoured it in a few bites. “Lái ēn, did the male lord have lunch?”
“Andrū said you visited Lady Lāolā this morning, and lunch was sent to her house.”
The female bug opened her smart brain to check the location of the male bug.
Since ten o’clock this morning, the male bug’s location hadn’t moved from Lady Lāolā’s house.
“Let’s head back to the military department, arrange the expedition ceremony for tomorrow morning, and then give all the military females going on the expedition half a day off.”
If all went well, he could still make it back to pick up the male lord.
Thinking of this, Gālet couldn’t help but smile, his originally sharp features softening a bit.
“For this mission, you don’t need to come with me. Stay in the capital and continue investigating the identity of the third prince. It would be best if you could find evidence that his female father is from the lizard race.”
Lái ēn immediately put away his playful expression and saluted seriously. “Understood, sir.”
However, just three seconds later, he leaned in with a grin and asked, “General, aren’t you afraid your male lord will get jealous if you meet with Lord Kāngnà and the third prince behind his back?”
“Military matters are urgent; it’s unavoidable.” Gālet said lightly, “And I won’t let the male lord find out.”
He would handle everything well; his male lord just needed to live in a beautiful big house and enjoy a carefree life every day.
“By the way, did you pick out the gift I asked you to?”
Lái ēn quickly opened his smart brain and pulled up a picture. “I picked it out, the latest model of starship. It’s said to be the most popular style among male bugs online.”
“Hmm, not bad, let’s go with this one.”
Gālet instructed Lái ēn to place the order, not paying any attention to the eight-digit price in the bottom left corner of the interface.
Lái ēn hesitated for a long time before tentatively speaking up, “General, haven’t you thought about personally picking a gift for Lord Kāngnà?”
Since he became Gālet’s adjutant, every time he picked a gift for Lord Kāngnà, it was always done on Gālet’s behalf. Although he didn’t mind, it still felt a bit strange.
Gālet shook his head. “The gifts I choose aren’t to his liking; it’s better if you pick something he’ll like.”
Lái ēn clicked his tongue in his mind.
Choosing something that doesn’t suit him and letting the adjutant pick? What kind of bug logic is that?
He secretly glanced at the general, who was sitting upright and processing documents with his smart brain.
How did this female bug manage to win over Lord Kāngnà, who was both gentle and beautiful, and most importantly, devoted and not interested in female servants or slaves?
Was there no justice in the world?
But no matter how much he complained, as Gālet’s dear adjutant, he still had to place the order using the general’s account and even prepare a card to disguise it as a gift personally chosen by Gālet.
Sigh, he had it tough; the general should really give him double pay!
After walking for several hundred meters, a public restroom finally appeared ahead.
Kāngnà rushed in like the wind, locked the door in one go, and then sat on the toilet seat, crying out loud.
The emotions that had been suppressed from being poisoned to being splattered with bird poop finally burst forth, tears streaming down his face.
He didn’t know how long he cried, but eventually, he felt a lot better inside. He washed the bird poop off his head in the mirror and rinsed his eyes with cold water to make himself look less disheveled.
It’s fine; it’s just a bad encounter with bugs, right?
Who hasn’t had a troublesome first love?
He could just consider those seven years as feeding a dog; after all, the bug race has a lifespan of 200 years, and he still had plenty of time to start over.
But the premise was that he could escape.
How could he make money?
Kāngnà let out a deep breath, stepping out of the restroom when suddenly a big golden retriever pounced onto his leg, nuzzling against him.
“Ah, I’m so sorry, Your Highness.” The female bug holding the dog leash hurried over to stop the golden retriever, repeatedly apologizing to Kāngnà. “I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
“It’s okay; I really like puppies.”
In his past life, he had a great affinity for small animals; cats and dogs would always want to snuggle with him, which was why he chose to become a veterinarian.
The beautiful golden retriever temporarily made Kāngnà forget his troubles as he squatted down and gently scratched the dog’s chin.
The golden retriever squinted its eyes in delight, suddenly letting out a few whines towards Kāngnà.
“Little brother, I… my neck feels uncomfortable, I’m having a bit of trouble breathing, and it hurts.”
Kāngnà was stunned.
Who just spoke? Was it the golden retriever?
Recalling the earlier red-billed sparrows, Kāngnà couldn’t help but shiver.
Had he really gone crazy from being around Gālet for so long?
What’s this called in psychology, hallucination or delusion?
“Little brother, please help me; I really feel awful.” While Kāngnà was in a daze, the golden retriever nuzzled against his pants, wagging its tail vigorously.
The female bug couldn’t help but laugh. “Your Highness, my Dōumǐ really likes you!”
Kāngnà stared blankly at the golden retriever by his leg, and suddenly an unrealistic guess popped into his mind.
He trembled as he gently pushed aside the fur around the dog’s neck, revealing a circle of red skin where the collar was too tight.
Kāngnà’s mind went blank, and after a while, he heard his own voice: “It seems like his collar is a bit too tight.”
“Ah, I fastened it wrong!” The female bug hurriedly adjusted the collar for the golden retriever. “Thank you for the reminder, Your Highness!”
The golden retriever barked at Kāngnà a couple of times, wagging its tail excitedly.
“Thank you, big brother; you’re such a great bug!”
Watching the golden retriever bounce away, Kāngnà felt a surge of joy, like someone who had been sitting in a dry well for many years finally seeing a ray of sunlight.
He seemed to know how to make money now!
Kāngnà opened his arms, closed his eyes, and stretched lazily under the warm summer sun.
He had a feeling that he was about to welcome his new life.
Meanwhile, Laura, who had just sent Andrū away, was sitting on the sofa, enjoying the double bug portion sent by the general’s family.
It had to be said that the general’s chef was really good.
As she was enjoying it, Kāngnà’s smart brain suddenly vibrated. Laura curiously leaned over to take a look, only to see a pinned message pop up on the screen.
—— Good day, male lord. I can leave work early today and will go to pick you up at Lady Lāolā’s house now.
Laura’s head buzzed.
Oh no!
