Chapter 11: Ruthless Man

In the mountains, mist rose as Linglong kicked her little legs and cried out in her childish voice, insisting she needed to pee.

Chen Feng hurriedly took the little one to the bathroom.

After she peed and pooped, the little one was no longer sleepy!

She needed to go to bed early and wake up early to stay healthy and to practice martial arts, so she ordered her father to fetch hot water. The little baby then washed her own face and brushed her teeth with toothpaste.

When she finished, she wore the fresh diaper that Chen Feng changed for her, and called out, full of energy, “Ah pa~”

Chen Feng checked the time, a bit amused and helpless, as it was just five in the morning.

How could this barely one-year-old baby have so much energy?

The mist drifted down from the hills, flooding the yard. Chen Feng turned on the soft lights in the courtyard. The rooster in the chicken coop flapped its wings, thinking dawn had arrived, so it flew up onto the wooden rack, about to crow loudly.

With a wave of his hand, Chen Feng sent all those hens back to sleep.

As for Linglong, the little baby, she already stood in the middle of the courtyard and struck a pose, starting her boxing practice with a soft but fierce display.

Chen Feng thought the child really inherited his passion for martial arts and seemed especially talented in this area.

He prepared the milk and smiled. “Linglong, drink your milk first. Later, Daddy will teach you an even more powerful martial art, called the Black Dragon Eighteen Forms!”

Little Linglong was completely overjoyed. She stretched out her arms to steady herself, then dove at Chen Feng and hugged his leg, giggling, “Baby~ drink milk~”

Chen Feng was utterly entertained by the little dumpling and handed her the milk bottle.

Holding her bottle, the baby raised her head and gulped it down, drinking happily. When she finished every drop of her breakfast milk, she burped contentedly.

Chen Feng looked at her messy hair, the bit sticking up at the back, the chubby baby-soft cheeks, exquisite features, big round eyes, and arms and legs as plump as lotus roots. To him, she looked just like a cute character from an anime—far too adorable.

He gently and lovingly rubbed her head. The little girl tilted her head, eyes blinking, grinned dimly, grabbed her own hair, and spoke in her soft childish voice, “Papa, ponytail~”

She wanted her Daddy to tie her hair.

Chen Feng grinned, “That’s easy—Dad can handle this for sure!”

He sat down on the stone bench under the tree, cradled the little dumpling in his lap, and looked at his daughter’s head of thick, fluffy, and hopelessly messy hair. Learning from her grandma, he gathered her hair up and tied a little ponytail high on her head.

Usually, Little Linglong wore two pigtails, one on each side. But today, her father tried something creative, leaving just one little ponytail standing alone at the top of her head.

When Little Linglong looked at herself in the mirror, her eyes went wide with surprise, and she cried out in wonder.

Chen Feng gave a thumbs-up and said, “My Linglong’s hairstyle looks beautiful!”

So Little Linglong touched her unique ponytail and shook her head at the mirror.

Then, with a big burp, she spat up some of the milk she had just drunk.

Chen Feng looked at his clothes, now stained with milk, and the little baby clicking her mouth. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

“Did you shake yourself into a milk stupor?” Chen Feng pinched her chubby cheeks, making the little girl giggle joyfully.

After a while of busy work, he cleaned both the little one and himself and tossed their dirty clothes into the washing machine.

Little Linglong followed him like a cute little tail, watching everything he did.

Gradually, as dawn arrived, the mist turned into a light milky white, floating gently among the woods and across the creek.

Birds began to chirp happily, and the owl that had been out all night returned to the tree, settling in for a rest.

When Yi Qinghua and Chen Dachang got up, they saw one big and one little figure practicing boxing in the courtyard.

Little Linglong even imitated the movements quite well.

The old couple ate breakfast, fed the chickens, told Chen Feng to look after the child, then grabbed their tools to go catch cicadas. If there was money to be made, they wouldn’t let the opportunity slip by.

It was only nine in the morning, but the sunlight was already dazzling and scorchingly hot.

Little Linglong, however, sprawled out on the grass as if forming a big “X,” napping under the tree. Little Silly lay beside her, munching on apple slices that Chen Feng had somehow procured.

Chen Feng sat straight-backed on the stone bench, watching the chubby-cheeked Linglong with a gentle, loving smile in his eyes.

He thought he would waste many years hesitating about marriage.

Yet to his surprise, all those worries turned out to be unnecessary. The little one who suddenly burst into his life forced him to take up the responsibility.

Even though he was still an inexperienced super dad, he was confident that he could take good care of his daughter.

When he pulled out his phone to take photos of Little Linglong and Little Silly, the chubby man who hadn’t slept all night lay exhausted on a chair in the mahjong parlor, spiritless and dazed. When the villagers arrived to sell cicadas, it took him ages to respond, unlike yesterday, when he had been cheerful and joked around.

He wanted to run away but didn’t dare.

So he handed Auntie Zhang twenty thousand yuan for the cicada buyers and asked her to help. He then fled into a private room at the mahjong parlor, turned on the air conditioning, and lay inside lost in troubled thoughts.

He picked up his phone, put it down, and finally, as if making up his mind, sent a message to his sugar daddy, “Boss Gao, we ran into a ruthless one. Old Liang was gone on the spot.”

“I can’t guarantee my own safety now. You’d better look out for yourself too.”

“Whatever you do, do not come to Qingquan Village.”

Just as he expected, less than a minute passed before his phone rang. He answered in a hoarse voice, “Boss Gao, there is a ruthless man here. I am definitely going in this time.”

“You’d better get ready too.”

Gao Hongqiang lay in his boss chair, feet propped on a redwood desk, puffed on his cigar, and spoke with complete indifference, “Old Zhong, what kind of ruthless men haven’t we met before?”

“Back in the day, killing people was nothing special.”

“If someone ruins my business, what good end could they expect?”

“I’d like to see for myself—who could be such a badass that they scared you, Old Zhong, out of your wits?”

The chubby man recalled last night’s scene and couldn’t help swallowing. “Boss Gao, I have done all I could. If you can avoid getting involved, it’s best not to.”

Gao Hongqiang sneered, “In Mianzhou, with me, Gao Hongqiang, who can’t I handle? Old Zhong, tell me who this person is—I’ll bring people and deal with him myself.”

The chubby man’s voice even trembled, “His name is Chen Feng. He just arrived in Qingquan Village not long ago.”

Gao Hongqiang grunted, then hung up the phone.

He pondered for a while, flicked the ash off his cigar, tapped an intercom button on his desk, and a middle-aged man in a tight black vest entered from outside, arms crossed over his belly, bowing, “Boss.”

“Sheng Yun, take some men to Qingquan Village and investigate a guy named Chen Feng. I want his info by this afternoon.”

The burly, small-eyed, thick-lipped Sheng Yun nodded, “Alright, boss. I’ll handle it right away.”

When Sheng Yun left the office, Gao Hongqiang’s expression turned vicious and fierce. “If you dare to ruin my business and I don’t wipe out your whole family, I’ll write my name backward.”

The drive from Mianzhou to Qingquan Village was just over an hour. When Sheng Yun asked the villagers about Chen Feng, the security corps soldiers placed him under surveillance immediately.

But when they heard the villagers’ descriptions of Chen Feng, they nearly lost their composure.

Gossip in the countryside was just too terrifying!

“You mean Chen Feng, the one who just moved into the village? That kid has luck—ever heard of the Lu family group ranked top in the world? That globally famous, cool beauty CEO is his wife.”

“Chen Feng? That handsome guy? Isn’t he just a pretty boy with a good wife?”

“Heh, a guy living off a woman—what’s there to know about him?”

“He’s well known around here, good looks go a long way. His wife even hired bodyguards for him—seriously impressive.”

“What did he used to do? I heard he was a soldier, just left the military a few days ago.”

“He looks just like a scholar, nothing like a soldier at all—must be exaggerating.”

“He even looks kind of weak. These days he only went out with his kid once, and it’s as if he is afraid of daylight.”

“I think that kid might not even be his. Maybe Boss Lu put the child forward as a shield. The real father is definitely someone important.”

“Exactly—the green on his head is all the colors of the rainbow, and he still thinks he’s doing well.”

When Sheng Yun reported what he heard to Gao Hongqiang, Chen Feng was in the kitchen with the now-awake Linglong, making lunch.

“Now we have a rice cooker. If Daddy isn’t home in the future, our Linglong will know how to cook rice.”

“First wash the rice, then add water, use chopsticks to check the water level, just above the top of the sticks is perfect.”

“We’ll secretly cook some sausages and cured meat too, hehe.”

Little Linglong giggled at her father’s silly expressions and clapped her little hands with excitement.

Being with her dad made her especially happy and joyful.

Chen Feng looked at her squinting with laughter and tapped her little nose, “Linglong, what do you want to eat for lunch?”

The little baby raised her fist and called out sweetly, “Again~”

Chen Feng laughed, “Then Daddy will show you his top-notch skills today and make some carrot braised pork.”

“Let’s go to town and buy some meat.”

The little one nodded eagerly, baring her teeth in a sweet grin, being as obedient as could be.

He got on the family’s electric tricycle, put Little Linglong on his chest, and she opened her eyes wide, finding the experience completely new and amazing.

A handsome dad and a cute baby turned heads at the town market.

Some ladies even took out their phones and snapped pictures of them.

It was really a feast for the eyes.

Yinjian Town was an ancient town. Though it was quiet these days, plenty of people still lived there, and the supporting facilities were complete. Fresh vegetables and meat arrived daily.

Every three days was a market day, when people from all around gathered, making it vibrant and noisy. All kinds of mountain goods and specialties could be seen everywhere.

Chen Feng bought carrots, several jin of pork belly, potatoes, beef, and lamb. After shopping, he rode the electric tricycle back to Qingquan Village.

He put the extra vegetables and meat in the fridge and then started cooking, while Little Linglong sat obediently in her little chair, hugging Little Silly, watching her handsome dad show off his superior cooking skills.

Her eyes, black as grapes, were lively and pure, as if they held all the beauty in the world.
