Chapter 78: Shen Shilang’s Vital Signs are Rapidly Declining!
Shen Shilang hurriedly asked in a low voice, “Have the reinforcements arrived?”
Su Jinshi quickly nudged him twice.
Shen Shilang immediately stood up and headed towards the exit.
“Shilang, where are you going?” Wei Zhaoxian asked.
“I estimate the reinforcements should be here by now. I’m going to the entrance to check the situation,” Shen Shilang replied.
“Be careful,” Wei Zhaoxian frowned, “Never mind, I’ll go with you.”
“General,” Guan Changping stopped Wei Zhaoxian, “I’ll go with Young Master Shen to take a look.”
Guan Changping and Shen Shilang cautiously made their way to the entrance, finding a concave spot in the canyon wall to hide.
“Do you hear anything?” Shen Shilang asked.
“I think I hear some hoofbeats,” Guan Changping replied uncertainly, lying down to listen more closely.
After a while, he looked up, barely containing his excitement. “Young Master, there are indeed many hoofbeats! But…”
He hesitated, not daring to be too optimistic. “I can’t tell if they’re our reinforcements or the enemy’s troops.”
“Since you came in alone, the enemy must have anticipated reinforcements and likely increased their own forces,” Guan Changping said.
Shen Shilang nodded, but he felt confident since Su Jinshi had mentioned they were Great Xi’s reinforcements.
“Let’s wait. If they are our troops, we should hear the sounds of battle soon,” Shen Shilang said.
Guan Changping agreed.
They waited in silence as the hoofbeats grew closer, until suddenly the sounds of fighting erupted.
Shen Shilang and Guan Changping exchanged a glance, taking advantage of the chaos to move closer to the entrance until they could see outside clearly.
“It’s the young general!” Guan Changping exclaimed excitedly. “He’s brought the reinforcements!”
“Let’s go back and gather everyone. We’ll find the right moment to make our move,” Shen Shilang said.
“Yes!” Guan Changping now had great respect for Shen Shilang.
Apart from Wei Zhaoxian and Wei Jianlang, Shen Shilang ranked third in his heart.
The two hurried back.
Guan Changping eagerly reported, “General, the young general has brought the reinforcements!”
Wei Zhaoxian stood up immediately. “Carry the severely wounded comrades. Be ready to move out at any time!”
“Yes, sir!”
The lightly injured soldiers helped carry the more seriously wounded.
Shen Shilang and Guan Changping protected Wei Zhaoxian, while Wei Jianming, despite his own injuries, silently picked up a wounded soldier.
Everyone saw this but said nothing.
They reached the entrance, hiding behind the canyon walls.
Shen Shilang stood guard at the front, ready to take down any enemy soldiers who might try to rush in.
The sounds of battle outside gradually subsided, and Wei Jianlang was the first to rush over.
“Father! Shi…” Remembering the others were present, he quickly corrected himself, “Lord Shen!”
At this moment, Shen Shilang led everyone out from the narrow passage.
“Father!” Wei Jianlang saw Wei Zhaoxian’s injuries and hurriedly asked, “How are you?”
“I’ll be fine,” Wei Zhaoxian replied, looking at the troops behind Wei Jianlang. “Let’s go.”
“Yes, sir!” Wei Jianlang turned and led the group back towards Great Xi’s army.
Suddenly, a soldier hidden among the Great Xi forces raised a crossbow as everyone’s attention was on Wei Zhaoxian and the others.
Before anyone could react, three arrows were shot simultaneously from the crossbow.
“Shen Shilang!” Although Shen Shilang couldn’t hear her, Su Jinshi instinctively cried out in alarm.
Hearing the arrows whistling, Shen Shilang turned and saw them heading towards Wei Zhaoxian.
“General!” Being closest to Wei Zhaoxian, Shen Shilang rushed forward.
Guan Changping also dashed to protect the general, but Shen Shilang was faster. He kicked one arrow away and used the momentum to knock the second one out of the air.
Guan Changping arrived just in time to split the third arrow.
“Seize him!” Guan Changping shouted, but unexpectedly, three more arrows flew from the shadows as he yelled.
These three arrows caught everyone off guard.
This time, no one was prepared. After successfully blocking the first three, they had let their guard down, thinking the ambush was over.
By the time they realized more arrows were coming, it was too late. Guan Changping, now farther away after capturing the first attacker, couldn’t make it back in time.
“Father!” Wei Jianlang rushed over, managing to deflect one arrow.
“Father!” Wei Jianming’s eyes widened in horror, but he was carrying a wounded soldier and still too far from Wei Zhaoxian.
The massive loss caused by his mistake had created a huge impact on Wei Jianming’s psyche.
He knew they all blamed him.
So although he cried out in pain, it was just verbal.
No one came to check on him, and he didn’t say much either.
Coming out of the canyon, he carried a wounded soldier, keeping far from Wei Zhaoxian.
He knew Wei Zhaoxian was angry with him and didn’t want to see him.
Now, when Wei Zhaoxian was in danger, he couldn’t save him in time.
Shen Shilang rushed to shield Wei Zhaoxian, deflecting one arrow.
But the third arrow, there was no way to block it in time.
“Thud!” The third arrow pierced Shen Shilang’s left chest.
“Shen Shilang!” Su Jinshi cried out in terror.
“Shilang!”
“Young Master Shen!”
At the same time, Su Jinshi’s phone began overheating, the screen flashing an intense red warning.
This time, the red on the screen was even more intense than when Shen Shilang had been in danger from high fever, flashing even more frequently.
[Danger Alert! Danger Alert!]
[Shen Shilang is in extreme danger!]
[Shen Shilang’s vital signs are rapidly declining!]
The system kept sending alerts. Su Jinshi was so nervous she didn’t know what to do, her hands shaking.
[Mission Requirement: Save Shen Shilang immediately!]
[Mission Requirement: Successfully save Shen Shilang!]
[Failure will result in the collapse of the Great Xi world!]
[Warning! Probability of Great Xi world collapse: 30%!]
[Warning! Probability of Great Xi world collapse: 50%!]
[Warning! Probability of Great Xi world collapse: 60%!]
The probability of collapse kept rising, indicating Shen Shilang’s deteriorating condition.
This was the first time the system had continuously sent such urgent warnings, even showing a sense of panic.
It was also the first time the system had directly issued mission requirements, instead of leaving Su Jinshi to figure things out on her own.
Su Jinshi was extremely nervous. For some reason, she had a feeling that if Shen Shilang died, he would truly be gone.
There would never be a Shen Shilang again.
Su Jinshi’s hands were shaking as she said to the system, her voice choked with tears, “Stop spamming! I get it! How am I supposed to access the store with you flooding the screen like this!”
Whether it actually heard her words or not, the system did indeed stop spamming. However, the red warning on the screen continued to flash incessantly.
