Xiao Wuchen glanced at the scene inside the door, a flicker of light in his eyes. This was the real treasure pavilion. He had sensed something was off when he first entered. Normally, spatial layers wouldn’t be so thick unless there was another space within. Turns out, he was right. Given the status of the Cangyu Sect, how could they keep such ordinary items in the treasure pavilion, placed so simply at the entrance? It was obviously a trap. The most important magical artifacts were locked at the topmost level of the treasure pavilion, almost inaccessible to anyone. After checking the door he discovered once more and confirming there were no issues, the man stepped inside.
In this hidden space stood eight white pillars over ten meters tall, covered in golden runes that seemed to breathe, glowing and dimming. At the top of the pillars lay eight priceless top-grade magical artifacts. Just picking one of them could offset everything he had seen earlier. Xiao Wuchen stepped up, climbing the pillar with a slight exertion.
His pure white robe fluttered open with his movements, like a pair of white butterfly wings. He swiftly collected all the magical artifacts into his storage ring, then expanded his divine sense, walking along the top of the pillar towards the innermost part of the treasure pavilion.
The innermost part of the treasure pavilion was a crimson wall, standing out in the entirely white space. The small world taken over by the Cangyu Sect was isolated within it. Xiao Wuchen withdrew his divine sense, placing his hand on the crimson wall. The runes on the wall slowly emerged with his touch.
Long ago, his father had told him that those small worlds were hidden within a red wall. If the demon clan had its own small world, its power would be even greater. The regretful look in his father’s eyes was still vivid in his mind. The Demon Lord was momentarily lost in thought, but soon the pain in his palm pulled him back to reality.
In the quiet space, a sizzling sound echoed. White smoke rose from the man’s hand pressed against the wall. Xiao Wuchen quickly withdrew his hand, his palm scorched black. Frowning, he swiftly took out an elixir from his storage ring, crushed it, and sprinkled the powder over the wound.
The wound quickly grew new flesh upon contact with the elixir powder. While waiting for his hand to heal, Xiao Wuchen looked up at the wall. It seemed even Duan Ze couldn’t enter this place directly. After a moment’s thought, his gaze settled on the gathering of runes.
He took out the token representing Duan Ze’s identity from his storage ring and placed it on the wall. This time, all the runes on the red wall lit up. Though lifeless, the wall seemed to exude a faint sense of respect. The wall slightly caved in, finally splitting open in the middle.
Xiao Wuchen glanced at his hand, now restored to its original state, and bent down to pass through the gap. The next moment, he found himself on a pine branch growing horizontally on a cliff.
Thin clouds floated around, surrounded by mountains, several cranes calling as they flew through the clouds. Dozens of giant transparent glass spheres floated in mid-air, each seated in the thin clouds, towering one or two times higher than the surrounding mountains, like a colossal entity.
Inside each sphere was a small world. Xiao Wuchen’s dark eyes, like deep wells, reflected those small worlds, his lips curling slightly, feeling extremely pleased.
Now he could easily accomplish what his father had once told him. If he destroyed one of these worlds, a demon seed would appear in the demon realm. In the eyes of the Cangyu Sect disciples, this demon seed was released by their shizu Duan Ze and would destroy the Cangyu Sect in the future.
Simply killing Duan Ze was too dull. He should be disgraced, dragged from the clouds into the mud, dying in the most humiliating manner. Xiao Wuchen recalled memories from his childhood, his expression darkening. Without further hesitation, he reached out, clawing one of the small worlds floating in mid-air towards him. As it approached, it rapidly shrank until it was only palm-sized.
The man looked at the people living inside from the outside, without hesitation, withdrawing all the spiritual qi within.
…
“I’m quite curious, what did your shifu do to you to make you hate him so much?” Xie Qingyu heard Duan Ze’s question, his eyes red. He had once admired this person so much, but in the end, he was just a joke. All the care and high-grade elixirs were simply to make him a medicine man to fill the shifu’s aftereffects.
All emotions turned to hatred when the other party cut his wrist for blood, torturing him repeatedly. Even though he was reborn, those painful memories still haunted his mind, waking him up every night, unable to sleep peacefully.
The boy was still being choked, looking down at the man standing not far away. The man’s eyes always seemed indifferent, yet now they held some curiosity, genuinely wanting to know the answer.
Xie Qingyu knew this might be his chance to find a way to survive, but he couldn’t reveal his rebirth. The boy opened his mouth, his expression dark, as if there was something unspeakable, “I can’t say.”
“Why can’t you say?” Duan Ze looked at the boy’s odd expression, quickly recalling what the original character did to the male lead. Aside from the usual feeding of elixirs, he always maintained a kind and amiable elder image, never doing anything excessive. “Is it because there’s nothing to say?”
“No.” Xie Qingyu retorted, then fell silent again.
Duan Ze, growing impatient, chose to forcefully interrogate, tightening his grip on the boy’s neck, “Hurry up, I’m in a rush.”
Xie Qingyu, slightly tilting his head back from the choking, glanced at Duan Ze, his eyes filled with undisguised hatred. After a moment of silence, he finally chose to reveal half the truth, “He… drugged me.”
“Drugged you?” What kind of drug?
As an observer, Chi Xiuzhu carefully observed Xie Qingyu’s expression, his heart sinking a few inches. Combining the information he knew, Duan Ze indeed showed extraordinary affection for his little apprentice in front of others. Could there be another layer to their relationship?
If that’s the case, it’s understandable why Xie Qingyu hated Duan Ze, but how could the Immortal Duan Ze do such a thing?! Impossible!
Chi Xiuzhu, disregarding Immortal Xue Jiang, stepped in front of Xie Qingyu in the blink of an eye, his beast-like eyes coldly staring at him, murderous intent rising, “If you’re lying to slander Immortal Duan Ze’s reputation, I’ll rip out your tongue.”
“I’m not lying.” Xie Qingyu rasped, gritting his teeth.
The atmosphere was eerie. Duan Ze was surprised that Xie Qingyu discovered the drugging so early, explaining why Xie Qingyu hated him so much.
He steadied his mind, pretending to nod unintentionally, easing his grip, “When did you find out he drugged you?”
Standing beside them was someone who could spread the news across the continent. Xie Qingyu’s words were too misleading; it was best to clarify.
“I discovered it by chance.” Xie Qingyu’s gaze fell on a flower swaying in the wind nearby, his brows and eyes filled with sorrow, “At the time, I couldn’t believe shifu would harm me.”
Chi Xiuzhu caught the detail and asked, “Discovered by chance? With Immortal Duan Ze’s cultivation, if he really drugged you, it wouldn’t be so easy for you to find out.”
Xie Qingyu shook his head, “I didn’t discover it myself; someone told me.”
“Who?” Chi Xiuzhu and Duan Ze asked simultaneously.
“I don’t know them.” Xie Qingyu’s face was pained, his throat burning.
He cautiously observed Xue Jiang’s expression and added, “I still have a grudge to settle. Once I’ve avenged it, my life is yours to handle, Immortal Xue Jiang.”
“I’m not interested in your life.” Duan Ze replied indifferently. This was a plot not present in the original story. Because he took the male lead as an apprentice early on, changing the other’s fate, and since he didn’t continue drugging him, Xie Qingyu wouldn’t hate him as in the original plot, seeking revenge.
So did someone inform the male lead of this matter, forcing the plot back on track? Xie Qingyu still ended up hating him.
Duan Ze pondered for a moment, having almost figured out the situation. He stepped onto the lotus seat, not planning to ask further, “I’ve asked what I wanted. You’d better keep this to yourselves. If I hear rumors outside, don’t blame me for silencing you.”
After the threat, Duan Ze controlled the flying artifact to return to the demon realm.
He’d deal with the plot later. Right now, he needed to quickly adapt to the days of swapping bodies with Xiao Wuchen, preparing for the worst outcome.
Once the person disappeared into the sky, the feeling of being choked finally vanished for Xie Qingyu. The lingering killing intent still hung in the air, making both of them uncomfortable.
The boy barely managed to stay upright, his face grim.
One day, he would reclaim today’s humiliation.
Chi Xiuzhu glanced at the boy, noting the malice in his eyes, doubting whether the information he received was true. Such a person didn’t seem like a future righteous prodigy.
“I’ll wait for you to bring your shifu to see me.” He recalled Xue Jiang’s actions and expressions, growing interested in how the master and apprentice would interact in the future.
…
After flying a distance, Duan Ze landed in a secluded corner, drawing a one-time teleportation array on the spot, transporting himself back near the demon realm.
The man flew on his sword all the way, and only after tearing off the transformation talisman, returning to the Demon Lord’s appearance, did the demons secretly watching him withdraw their gazes, all prostrating on the ground.
Trembling all over.
The demon realm was still as desolate as he had seen before, the land cracked, filled with a sense of ruin, even worse than before. Seeing this, Duan Ze’s inner spirit of infrastructure burned once again.
After all, Xiao Wuchen wouldn’t return for a while. He could secretly work without being noticed.
Duan Ze observed the land while flying towards the demon realm royal palace. By the time he arrived, he had roughly planned out a blueprint in his mind.
Just as the man stepped into the imperial city, he suddenly felt a pang of anxiety, inexplicably flustered.
He checked his body, ensuring there were no issues, before proceeding inside.
In the palace, everyone who saw him knelt in salute.
To these people, pretending not to see them was already a form of reward.
Once Duan Ze returned to the palace, Mo Han, the Demon Lord’s subordinate, suddenly appeared, half-kneeling before Duan Ze, “Lord, you have returned.”
“Yes,” Duan Ze paused for a moment, seeing the other still kneeling, he asked, “Is there something to report?”
Mo Han nodded, his red eyes filled with confusion over the event he was about to recount, “The shizu of the Cangyu Sect, Duan Ze, drained the spiritual qi from a small world stored in the treasure pavilion and disappeared with the eight top-grade magical artifacts inside. The entire sect is now secretly searching for him, and the news will likely spread soon.”
“What?!” Upon hearing this, Duan Ze’s vision went black.
