Chapter 27: Who Wants to Investigate My Partner?

With this happening, Tan Qiuyue completely forgot about Lin Yiwan transferring the job to Lin Yirou. 

All she could think about was her son going to the countryside, making it difficult to see him. Her son had become a country bumpkin!

Lin Yirou was also upset, but more concerned about her job. “Mom, I’ll take you home first, then I’ll find Lin Yiwan.”

Tan Qiuyue was like a lifeless statue, oblivious to her words. She let Lin Yirou lead her to the car and home.

As they reached their building, they saw people whispering and pointing.

Lin Yirou, ignoring them, was about to help her mother inside when someone said, “Yirou, something happened to your family.”

Lin Yirou’s heart sank.  What else could happen after her brother left? “Auntie, what happened?”

“Your father said the money was stolen, and the police are taking statements!”

Hearing the money was gone, the mother and daughter felt faint.  They stumbled upstairs.

Lin Weimin’s furious voice echoed. “It’s Lin Yiwan! She’s going to the countryside and stole my money to avoid hardship! Arrest her!”

Tan Qiuyue trembled with anger.  “It’s her!  Officer, arrest her! I know where she is!”

The onlookers whispered.  “My goodness! That girl seems honest, how could she do this?”  “You can’t judge a book by its cover. Some people seem nice but are actually terrible.”  “No wonder Old Lin disliked her, she’s dishonest.”

The Lins lost over four hundred yuan a significant amount.  After the police investigation and statements, they prepared to find Lin Yiwan. But as they reached the ground floor, someone shouted, “Look, Lin Yiwan is back!”

Lin Yiwan had just finished the job transfer and rushed to the Lin’s to collect her belongings.  She saw a commotion and Lin Weimin striding towards her, his eyes blazing!

Lin Yiwan’s eyes narrowed.

“You thief! I’ll kill you!” Lin Weimin roared, raising his hand to strike her.

Lin Yiwan, anticipating this, ducked and dodged. Lin Weimin stumbled from the force of his swing.  Seeing the police, Lin Yiwan ran towards them.

“Officer, help! He’s trying to kill me!” she shouted.

Lin Weimin spun around, chasing after her.  “You dare run? Stop! I’ll kill you!”

But he was stopped by the police.  “Stop! Don’t hit her!”

Blocked, Lin Weimin pointed at Lin Yiwan. “You ungrateful wretch, you stole my money, I’ll send you to jail!”

Lin Yirou finally understood.  “You say I stole your money? Proof?”  She looked at him coldly.

“Proof? You’re the only one going to the countryside, needing money. Who else?” Lin Weimin sneered, his gaze filled with disgust.

Tan Qiuyue chimed in.  “It’s her!  When she was still living here, Yirou’s things often disappeared. Officer, take her to the station, make her return the money!”

Lin Yirou, red-eyed, looked at Lin Yiwan incredulously.  “Sister, how could you do this? Mom and Dad are so good to you, they even made braised pork for you!”

The onlookers’ gazes turned hostile.  “I knew something was wrong with her, always staying away from home.”  “Exactly! Tan Qiuyue always suspected her of stealing things.”  “With her looks, she can’t be good.”

People are jealous; seeing a beautiful girl tainted, they felt a strange sense of balance.  Lin Yiwan being a thief seemed certain.

At that moment, Song Huaiqing, having heard about Lin Yihao, arrived.  Seeing Lin Yiwan surrounded and two policemen present, he felt a jolt.  He rushed forward.  “Wanwan, what happened?”

Tan Qiuyue spoke urgently.  “Huaiqing, you’re here! Tell the police to arrest Lin Yiwan! She stole four hundred yuan!”

Lin Yirou, tearful, looked at him.  “Brother Song, persuade Sister Wanwan to confess! Stealing is wrong!”

Song Huaiqing looked sternly at Lin Yiwan. “Wanwan, what’s going on? Do you need money? I can give you some.”

Lin Yiwan was speechless.  “Song Huaiqing, are you an idiot?”

“Wh…what?  Girls shouldn’t talk like that!” he said disapprovingly.

“Mind your own business!” Lin Yiwan rolled her eyes, then said to the police, “Officer, they’re falsely accusing me, damaging my reputation. I’m pressing charges for defamation!”

“You think you can just press charges? Who do you think you are?” Tan Qiuyue shouted, her gentle demeanor gone.

The police looked at Lin Yiwan, then at the aggressive family, feeling overwhelmed.  He said, “Comrade Lin Yiwan, cooperate with us, come to the station for questioning.”

Lin Yiwan sneered, about to speak, when a cold voice came from the crowd. 

“Who’s questioning my girlfriend? 

Do you have a warrant?”
